House of 1000 Corpses was a fun time with crazy characters & creepy settings.
Devil's Rejects takes the remaining characters & force you to feel for them, while keeping them vile. Good, solid sequel.
Halloween is great if you've NEVER seen the original. They remove all the mysticism of why he's evil & just make him another victim of a broken home, whatever. Then they retread stuff done in the original, only with lots of blood & tits (not that I'm complaining). All in all like you said, there are worse remakes out there.
Halloween 2 was just incoherent insanity. First of all it felt more like Jason (wearing a tattered Michael Myers mask) with the whole seeing his mommy asking for vengeance & whatnot. Also, there were more dream sequences in this than in the Elm Street remake, it got old really fast. Just. . . . . wow! WTF?
