I think I'll marathon this with Lindsay's video on the film and Linkara's review of the comic. Any other reviews on it that I should know about, fellow fans?
That's a fantastic idea actually!
I was gonna say, "How many times have I seen this reviewed in the past?"
The How Did This Get Made? podcast episode is hilarious as well.
The Musical Hell review of this film is pretty fun.
That's actually what I did as well. I couldn't help myself.
This might be the only Cinema Snob review where I’ve actually seen the movie in question before watching the review. Albeit only a few days beforehand, as one of my friends will be producing a stage version of it, but still.
Good one, had me laughing at many moments. I also found it interesting that the keyboardist in the rock band during the scene of the clash between big band music and rock later joined the Grateful Dead for the last few years of their career.
Really? Never seen Elm Street, Halloween or Friday the 13th?
Funny enough, no. Not before he reviewed them, at least. I've honestly never been a huge horror movie fan until I started watching Brad's (Craig's?) series here, and it didn't help that, until recently, I didn't have any control over the family Netflix queue. :P
I was expecting another appearance by the bros (Brad & Sarah), but I guess the movie wasn't gay enough! I'm sure new episodes in October will combine more Italian horror films, porno spoofs, and another Halloween movie!
With all the roller disco going on is this a good time to demand prompt action on bringing the legend of Black Angus to life?
The musical hell lady did this for you tube or watched on the bad movie fiends podcast from four years back when it was known as willy wonka and the cocaine factory
I've been waiting for this.
I don't understand how people can dislike movies. I was always taught that the bad parts of movies should make us appreciate the parts of movies that are really good.
And if there are NO good parts to a given movie? What then?
So you don't get bored sitting through a bad movie?
This is one of my mother's favourite films when she was growing up, so I have a number of good memories of it.
Bradley, I for one am disappointed at your inability to embed a video in your own website.
It's too bad you aren't as good at running a website as Chez Apocalypse.
Anyway, I, for one, understand how frustrating these issues can be. I deal with them every day.
That scene transition bit may have been the funniest thing I have ever seen Brad do. That look of "what the hell is going here" made it work even more.
Finally! That was the longest 5 minutes of waiting for a Warriors joke ever...oh right and this movie or whatever.
WOOOO HOOOOO! \o/
Ahhhh.... that was sooo good, I think I need a cigarette.... ;)
God I love this movie! This has always been our family's 'tradition movie' (like how some have ''A Christmas Story'' or the ''Godzilla'' series).
In case anyone is curious: her real name is Terpsichore, Muse of dance and chorus. The 'musical era mashup' was so cool to me as a kid, I went out and picked up an album by 'The Tubes' - the 80's band in the mashup (btw, one of the dancers in that scene was the lead dancer for "Solid Gold", known for her loooong hair.) And as many people have made the connection: Don Bluth did the animation sequences - Kira's character is a design-sister to Princess Daphne from "Dragon's Lair".....
Blending my love of art, mythology, Gene Kelly, New Wave looks, ornate dance sequences, and one of the GREATEST FUCKING SOUNDTRACKS EVER!
...And Kimberly in Space Ace...
I don't care who you are, Don Bluth animation to ELO, fuckin' awesome.
He's always had a wonderfully distinct drawing style!
And the ELO songs makes me think Brad needs to push for 'Xanadu' night at his beloved Skate Land = Awesomest Birthday Idea ever!
I KNEW that was Bluth's work in 5 seconds.
So did you start watching anime or does Jillian just talk while fucking.
There's also 3 live action Death Note movies...
This isn't the first time Brad's made a Deathnote reference. He actually used a clip from it in one of the Violent Shit reviews.
The first one, I believe.
"You may not know this, but my father was a butcher shitter."
hey Brad, will u ever do a review about the Everest movie starring Josh Brolin?
Dammit! You missed it too!
I've always said that as bat-shit as this movie is, it's at least honest enough to let you know that from frame one....
When it shows you Danny on the beach as the sun rises IN THE WEST!!!
I've been saying for years that Xanadu is great and the cynics who shit on it are just joyless. Glad to know someone else shares my opinion. And I absolutely died at the 'You're starting to lose me movie' at ONJ in the cowboy get up.
So let me make a prediction here, for October you will be reviewing an either an Italian horror film or shot on shitteo film, then a WTF film, then Halloween III and lastly a porno spoof. I don't care if everything comes true, I just want to see the you Snob H III while also saying it's the best sequel in the Halloween series.
Meanwhile, the site F This Movie (.net) just released their "Scary Movie Month" Commentary Track for Halloween III.
And there's Hor-RIFF-ic Productions riff of the same movie in the iRiffs section of Rifftrax.com
BTW, Brad, whenever I watch the video on mobile it insists on loading and playing a three-and-a-half minute music video without any way to skip it. And when I try playing it on my computer, it only gets to three minutes before it stops loading.
You're starting to lose me, Screenwave...
I have been waiting for this day!
Correct me if im wrong but wasnt this done last year?
No, but last year he did The Apple and Can't Stop the Music, both from the same year as this.
Yes, Olivia Newton-John was wise to choose this over "Can't Stop the Music". This movie actually makes more sense and is a lot less confused about what it's trying to be.
I was quite thrilled with Valerie Perrine's performance in Can't Stop The Music! Especially the scene in the hot tub. 8D
"Xanadu" is literally my favorite movie title of all time.
Just to be curious, why can't it be posted on YouTube?
If it's a music rights thing I call bullshit.
Just have a look at "The Xanadu Appreciation Society" channel over there.
Okay so if I'm not gonna get anything new with Black Angus can we at LEAST see a Snob Review of Zardoz?!
Seriously, I understand the Director's Commentary is pretty interesting.
Damn! I want to see that so much! Snob and Zardoz. I still remember discovering when I was twelve and had insomnia. A local channel would play movies completely unedited after midnight. It lifted my spirits immensely to know that there was a time when anything so insane could be produced as a major film. And that Connery would be a part of it!
I would love to hear his take on the scene where they try to give him a boner.
I have this short movie in my head of so many scenes in Zardoz that cut back to a wide-eyed blank-faced Snob who might blink once if at all for a ver pregnant pause.
"The Gun Is Good! The Penis Is Evil!"
Then I also have this vision of a mashup with Zardoz and The Prisoner where Pat McGoohan wears a red diaper and Rover is an inflatable head.
"What do we want?! HEAD! What do we need?! HEAD!"
Boy it's early this morning!
Just Sum Guy: Oh, my dear sweet lord I want to see that so MUCH!
I finally watched Xanadu itself. The Tubes are great. Gene Kelly is great. Even Olivia is great. The set for the club at the end of the movie when the muses are dancing gave me seriously creepy Logan's Run Carousel vibes though. Maybe they didn't vanish magically but were just lasered to death in a rather pretty manner.
An anime reference? Oddly something I didn't expect you to ever do. Not a complaint, just thought it was note worthy.
Or do you mean "Death Note worthy"?
A Deathnote reference doesn't mean it's an anime reference. You anime geeks never care about source material, do you?
*sigh* More Italian horror, less whatever this was.
Studio execs were on some SERIOUS drugs back in the late Seventies and early Eighties!!!
Hmm. On the one hand, disco is shit. On the other hand, ELO is awesome and provided 20% of the greatest supergroup of all time. So, which will win?
My appreciation of English Romantic poetry and desire for it NOT to be included as a rather baffling title drop. So this movie must suck.
Hay, inst that a British passport on the left of the title screen pic, its slightly hidden but I can still tell ???????
Men, this player does not work at all and when it works it skips frames, is there somewhere else to see this one?
A "POWER PUFF GIRLS" & "DEATH NOTE" reference? I'm down with that.
Pfft, more like "Xan-Oh-Dear"...
The (former) Nostalgia Chick did it first. But the Cinema Snob did it better. A LOT better.
Plus, I prefer the great song by Rush over both of them (heh heh.)
Some of the older archived videos of 2009 were brought over from the youtube account before thecinemasnob.com was created, so please forgive the lesser video quality of such as some did not transfer well.
