Haha, I was going to request this one, but I figured you would do it eventually. Guess I was right!
good to see a father's day movie. a very violent father's day movie.
Unless you count episodes of Little Bear, I don't think there are that many happy fathers day things for The Snob to review...
Even then, Little Bear was awesome! There isn't one product of Little Bear that deserves a review from The Snob. Well... except that terrifying episode called "Monster Pudding", that episode scared me when I was little, that and the episode where Emily's doll gets kidnapped by Goblins or something, I remember that one being pretty dark and weird.
But anyway, getting back on track; I don't think there's that many happy fathers day things for The Snob to review. Unless there's a movie I haven't heard of...
Of all the random things brought up in the comment sections on this site, the very last thing I ever thought to see mentioned was "Little Bear".
Even though "Little Bear" was damn good.
Little Bear was my childhood, oh my God.
Little bear was awesome, the thing that made it so soothing was that kick-ass orchestra in the background, at times that was soothing, at other times it was pretty unsettling. that and the characters were all so lovable and nice to one another...
I have to admit, the first day I got dumped by a girl, I went back home and watched some little bear, and it made it all feel better. Little Bear is so amazing that it can heal your heart and even your soul...
At least we know it's gonna have a better ending than Lost.
Well, there goes my movie knowledge cred as I didn't even know about this version. I saw a newer version that was pretty horrible.
Oscar nomination for Brad Jones for that scene
Also, give this review an Emmy.
I was really hoping that the camera would whip around and Admiral Crackers would be behind it.
Or Bootlegger Bill. xD
and once again people responsible for movie imports in the netherlands didn't get this classic in stores but did get that STUPID remake...thank god there are things like region free dvd players, ebay and cduniverse.com
Fuck yeah Dutchie!
So if Terry O'Quinn and the woman from Mommy Dearest got together, who would snap first?
... I think that would mostly depend on how many coat hangers Terry keeps on his personage.
A little late for father's day aren't we? Though we all appreciate the video
What the hell are you talking about? today IS father's day. This video is right on the mark, it's not late at all.
Whoops, I gave my father presents the other day and totally forgot it's today since I always give him his a day early. Sorry for the mixup
lol it's cool, you really had me confused there.
Fathers Day is in September in NZ. Ironic since it means my mum's and dad's birthdays are both within a week of fathers day and mothers day respectively, so basically mum gets all the presents anyway :P
The bathroom scene D:
1) The one where Terry's barging into the bathroom with a knife?
2) The one where the girl is taking a shower?
3) The one where Brad is confused as to whether he's Kung Ti Ted, the guy from "The Big Box", 80's Dan, or The Snob?
The third one :B
sorry it's just that there's a lot of different bathroom scenes in this. I didn't mean to sound like a smartass I was just wondering which one was disturbing you.
I thought #3 was awesome, I thought #2 was out of place but sexy none the less, and I thought #1 was reminiscent of The Shining.
Thanks for the Edmund Kemper reference! I once lived in Edmunds mothers house on the top floor for six months. It was not haunted because I don't believe in such things.
Well good timing Brad, I was just watching the MonsterVision Joe Bob Briggs segments for this movie on YouTube a few days ago:
Now I actually understand all those things he was talking about! Plus I laughed like crazy at the "Welcome Freshmen" reverence. How do you even remember stuff like that?!
Yay! Freak Out reference!!!
AND a Crispin Glover on Letterman reference, nice!
Bonus points for Manhunter reference.
I've never seen The Stepfather, but it looks good so I'll keep it in mind for my Halloween movie marathon.
'killed more families than the tooth fairy'
feel like i SHOULD get that reference...
Yes you should. He's talking about that movie with Dwayne Johnson as the arrogant hockey player. Duh.
I kind of got that he was talking about the killer from red dragon, who was called the tooth fairy killer..i think
And then there's the tooth fairy from Darkness Falls who killed anyone who saw her face.
Damn, so many killer tooth fairies!
Holy fuck, that was terrifying. Maybe it was for the best that my mother never remarried.
Wow. This movie honestly looks pretty fun to watch. And Terry O'Quinn looks pretty scary. I'd watch it, if it was on TV.
Jerry only has family issues because his conman dad tricked him into donating his kidney.
And the bathroom scene was brilliant Brad. Especially the toilet lid joke at the end.
My favorite Stepfather is the one with the kid in a wheelchair.
The stepfather grabs him at one point, and basically yells in his face, "Stop being paralyzed!!!"
It later turns out that the paralysis was all in the kid's head, after all, because he's a dumbass.
Anyway, thanks for reminding me to give another look at this creepy ass film.
Hey, it's Father's Day! And we got our cake!
Does anyone know the name of the song used in the intro sequence?
Nevermind, I figured it out shortly after posting. Whoops. xD
What is it? I'd also like to know.
Terry O'Quinn was even weirder and creepier in Pin.
This was a fun episode, but when's the next Random Button?
I love me some Manhunter references. Did you listen to that 3.5 hour Manhunter episode of the Projection Booth w/Mr. X?
So, are you going to do the Stepfather sequels and/or the terrible remake?
This is one of the best ones you've done in a long time.
I love everything you've made. I just love this a bit more.
Holy crap, I just realized he played John Locke!
this is a film where the acting is all over the damn place. in some scenes it's good and O'Quinn is too and on other he's his acting along with everyone else's is just plain fucking awful. also i thought the film was utter shit when i watched it a few years back. i've never seen the sequels or the remake either. yes that's John Locke,
and i think since than he became a far far better actor as well.
Happy Fathers Day folks.
Fathers day tip #1: Don't shoot your dad with a crossbow while he's on the shitter.
Fathers Day tip #2: He doesn't want a new beard trimmer. Make a fucking effort.
I don't have a dad, so for fathers day, I just sat around and masturbated. That one was for you pops.
That is without a doubt one of the best psycho-thrillers of the 80s.
To go on a slight tangent...
Speaking of "a" Fred, Fred from Drop Dead Fred (1991) died...
i would´ve preferred this review to be in 3D
One of these days we'll get a new 80s Dan.
Since Brad gave us a Father's Day present, here's a present just for him:
Nick Cage's Japanese Pachinko Commercial Collection
It doesn't get more Cage than this.
Maybe you can host an episode of The Random Button as 80's Dan, and do a random 80's movie. Kill 2 birds with 1 stone
Holy crap I lost my shit at the Nukie 2 joke
That shower scene gets me thinking of U.S. legislation relating to age of consent and sex. It's statutory rape if you have sex with a person of age while being led to believe he/she is a minor. Also drawings of underage people in sexual situations which never involved actual children in their production is still classified as child pornography. So why is it perfectly legal to film an adult convincingly portraying an underage person in a sexual situation?
Because it was the 80's and nobody gave any fucks!
Judging from the title I didn't know if I should have expected a horror film or a porn :p
Hah, a "Welcome Freshman" joke. Wasn't expecting that.
Roger Ebert, in his review of this, had similar views; there are many instances where characters are complete dumbasses who do stupid things only to keep the plot going, but you forget about it because Terry O'Quinn is so awesome, he commands all your attention.
After rewatching the review and Brad did his "going through the voices in his head" deal, I found it ironic he did that when he's not doing any Kung Tai Ted, 80's Dan or Big Box episodes anymore. I understand his time constraints and the Snob eps are his bread & butter along with doing his movie but I miss those show honestly.
He's not doing them anymore?
gee, that sucks. I'm sure he'll get back to making them if the show starts to lose it's flavor. He'll know when to bring back those shows, now's not the time though; these days critics are in their prime, with the League of Legendary Super Critics formed, people are now suddenly coming to realize that there are many excellent critics out there. If we're lucky, this might lead to a golden age of critics. It's only right for the snob to step in and show everyone what he's made of.
But believe me, I think he'll bring back 80's Dan someday. when people start turning away from the whole critic thing and just want to watch entertaining videos 24 hours a day, then he'll bring the shows back.
I have faith in the snob's ability to realize when that time comes, I don't think we've seen the last of Kung Ti Ted or 80's Dan.
Holy crap, Donald Westlake wrote this?! He wrote the book Point Blank is based on!
well, that mini-freakout certainly spooked me o.o well played, Brad.
awww you got spooked? That's cute. Like a kitten getting spooked at something, it's just so adorable. :D
I'm actually being serious, that's cute.
"My 3:00 patient is Schizophrenic so I charge him double."
I think this is supposed to be a multiple personality joke but schizophrenia doesn't have anything to do with multiple personalities so now I'm just confused.
Why have I never heard about this movie? This actually looks awesome!
Also: Ted does NOT know how to do karate o_O ?!
A MANHUNTER and Rodney Alcala reference?! Keep being awesome Brad!
3:22 Is this suppose to be an homage to Fritz Lang's M?
I'm not afraid to say that I rooted for Jerry right along with Cinema Snob. I'd marry any of his three forms.
I just got this on blu ray today! Very good, O'Quinn always great.
However, not to discredit Mr. O'Quinn's performance, but Bravo's list had some questionable choices. . . for God's sake, they put Scream ONE SPOT HIGHER than Halloween!!!
21:14 It's the set of Silent Night, Deadly Night! Can't believe you didn't make that reference, tho.
Wow! I didn't realize how good of an actor Brad is. Bravo!
Overall a great review of one of my favorite horror films (I still have the original poster in my room). Because I've had a few "evil" stepfathers of my own I find this movie therapeutic in a way.
During the thanksgiving scene I thought we were going to get a reference to the "Dexter" episode with John Lithgow going mental on his family. Also, I can't remember if it was Dexter or not but I remember one of the killers whistling the same song as O'Quinn does in this film.
Some of the older archived videos of 2009 were brought over from the youtube account before thecinemasnob.com was created, so please forgive the lesser video quality of such as some did not transfer well.
