I don't know why.. but I'm hungry all of a sudden. This episode made me really hungry.
And this isn't one of the movies with a Colonel Sanders cameo. =P
I doubt I could ever dislike that movie as I could dislike the actual second alien movie.
Would you believe it that there are actually people complaining about part 4 but liking this one...
Well I guess with "Alien: Isolation" there now is a real Alien 2.
only bad thing about Alien 2 was that Ripley was an unrealistic character.
I don't like any of the Alien movies, but I also don't quite dislike them
They always have one thing that I really hate, but also one thing that I really like.
I even consider some aspects of Alien 3 to be good.
Personally, I don't like Alien Isolation, I don't think it succeeds in capturing the stealth aspect of Alien. In Alien Isolation he's just a bulletproof monster who walks around looking for you... aside from the good A.I. I wouldn't say he's particularly unique at all.
Like people say "Oh man, the Alien is so smart!" and I'm like "No... he's just reasonably smart... the A.I is good, but it should be considered a new standard and not a new extreme."
Alien 2 added a lot of great aspects to the Alien, it made him even more original than he already was.
Alien 3 added in the concept of when an Alien impregnates an animal other than a human, the resulting Alien is different based on the previous creatures skeletal structure. Conceptually wise, that's fucking amazing! It's a shame that evolutionary factor of Xenomorphs was never properly used in any of the later movies, and it probably never will.
Alien 4 was both good and bad. I certainly thought that the Xenomorphs from Alien 4 were more interesting than any of the previous installment: mostly due to their increased sense of intelligence (which the previous movies never showed).
I think the developers of Alien Isolation accidentally forgot the stealth factor of Xenomorphs, and could only remember the cunning intellect from Alien 4.
Honestly? I think previous video game installments of Alien did a far better job in representing them.
Aliens Vs Predator for the Xbox 360 did an excellent job showcasing both the intelligence and stealth of Xenomorphs. Alot of people argue that the Xenomorphs from the Marine campaign were far too stupid and "zombie esc", but I think that's only partially true. The Xenomorphs from the marine campaign only act stealthy in dark rooms, in lit rooms they result to all out charges in large numbers. I think it's fair to say that's only realistic, and it does make sense if you take the hive like attitude from Alien 2 into consideration. I think the Xbox 360 AVP game did probably the best job in doing justice to all 4 Alien films as well as the original Alien vs Predator movie.
Then you have another great Alien game that is kind of obscure: "Aliens: Infestation" for the Nintendo DS. This game did an incredible job doing both justice to the art style of the first Alien movie, as well as doing justice to the concepts expressed in the three later movies. The Xenomorphs in that game were pretty hard to kill without the right weapons on hand, they were fast, smart, and damaging. It was pretty easy to die in Alien Infestation. I think the reason why I like it the most was because it did a good job explaining the eggs on board the mysterious ship from the first movie (this game came out before Prometheus).
Frankly I think that Isolation has two major problems with the way it represented Alien (going off of first movie definition alone):
1. It completely forgot about acid blood.
2. It didn't utilize the stealth factor to Alien at all, and instead made him an invincible hunter who just walks right through walls of bullets.
3. The Alien's location is never determined by the environment he feels most comfortable in (in the first movie they specifically made clear that he only liked being in humid areas, and up until they cut the humidity, he would only hunt in humid areas). Utilizing this factor of the Alien would have made the game far more terrifying (they could have forced you to go through a really wet area of the ship or something), but instead they decided to just make him show up at random.
Honestly, I don't like Alien Isolation, I think it completely forgotten about important original aspects of Alien, and they just completely threw out anything from the later films because "Aw gee, that would automatically make the game good".
Honestly, other games have done a far better job representing Alien. Alien Isolation is probably the most overrated game of the 2014.
Kinda late, but whatever.
What I like about Isolation is the fact that the alien is an actual threat again, like in the first and third movie. In Parts 2 and 4 the aliens were cannon fodder only gaining strenghts through numbers.
It was this drastic shift in tone that made me dislike Aliens a lot.
It's true though that the Alien is not as stealthy as it could be in Isolation.
Deadly threat when alone, cannon fodder when alone and stealthy...
Aliens are Ninjas!
You don't like it for STUPID reasons, and reasons that anyone that actually played the game can correct you on.
1: The Alien in the game DOES have acid for blood.
2: Yes, I agree that it's ridiculous how much abuse that the Alien can take, but it's explained that the weapons aboard the space station were civilian-grade and not meant for anything built to last. Even the Working Joes can take several head-shots before going down. But there's still weapons that can drive it away, like the flamethrower and Molotov cocktail.
If the Alien could go down with a few bullets, then the entire premise of the game would be wasted. It's supposed to be survival horror. That means "keep progressing while deciding what's worth shooting and what isn't", not "find scary stuff and shoot it".
3: There IS a stealth factor in the game, and a lot of points where the Alien can ambush you if you're not careful. You can also hide in vents, lockers, or under tables to avoid being detected by the Alien, so the stealth factor works both ways.
To tell you the truth I don't remember feeling this way about Alien Isolation or the Alien movies. XD
I love the Alien movies now! I think they're classic sci fi masterpieces, and honestly I forgot that there was once a time where I disliked them because of Ripley. I look back on this and I'm like "Wait, there was a time where I was SEXIST?"
I don't really care that much for Isolation but after playing it for a while I've found that it does indeed have some strongsuits. It's a difficult game but it's a good game. I think the funnest thing to do in it is just fuck with the Alien.
You're absolutely right, I did dislike the game for stupid reasons. You're absolutely right.
Funny enough, Alien 3 WAS supposed to be on earth, before whatever happened to the project. Though as bad as 3 is, my problem is that they killed Hicks & Bishop, but Ripley survives, yet again!
Survive once you're lucky, twice you're resourceful, but thrice is trying my patience, even for a sci-fi film. That's why I hate the Scream series, the same 3 idiots always live!
I would understand if not agree to your point, if that was the case.
But it isn't Ripley died in the 3rd movie, are there alternate cuts where she doesn't?
I've only sat through the theatrical version so I can't answer to your question. But even though she dies in the end she comes back in the 4th one as a clone. But what pisses me off is that Hicks dies. . . in every cut I'll bet.
Also, . . . an you may be next, f*cker! Hilarious =D
Even the synopsis on IMDB calls it "An ultra-low budget and very violent rip-off of 'Alien'.
I love how you said "I have no idea what the fuck that is!"
The cop car in the end looks like 70's Camero Bumblebee from the Transformers movies with Barricade's color scheme.
