Let the degradation of quality commence!

Just kidding, hope that this helps out with whatever you need the extra cash for.

I don't get why everyone is bitching so hard about this. Everything will appear on the website for free right? This is just a sneak peek for those who wish to donate some money.

I think it makes sense to donate.. we want more videos and with some extra cash that means better quality or more vids. Personally I'll take Jake anytime or here's my money.

My first thought would be you fund-raising to hire a hit man for Adam Sandler but that makes sense as well. Do those who donate get to make suggestions on reviews or content?

For some reason clicking on the arrow next to Jake takes you to a website dedicated to xbox games' previews.

Don't think of it that way. There won't be anything missing from a show that would normally be there. Some things will just be extended in ways that won't be detrimental to everybody else's enjoyment.

Certain shows are available on patreon for a week, then they're on the site for free like always. It's an early perk.

Nothing is going to happen with The Cinema Snob and the Midnight Screenings for new releases. They will always be available for free.

Eh. Brad does this for a living, and he does it by providing us with free entertainment. Don't see why anyone should complain about this. I'm still complaining though that he won't let me touch his beard. I bet it feels like downy hedgehog bristles.

Btw Brad, you've gotta do something about Blip. I've tried visiting the site without AdBlock on but Blip just totally fucks videos up- halfway through an ad comes on, then the video stops playing completely. I don't honestly know if using AdBlock reduces any revenue you get, but I feel guilty when I need to switch it off to enjoy your content. You're indirectly making me feel guilt, Brad. Stop it.

One last thing. When are you going to buy the domain name 'cinemasnob.com'? That fucker has been promising us "Mainstream film through an arthouse eye" since 2009 and STILL hasn't delivered. Maybe splash some cash his way with your new Patrodollars, I'm wasting valuable seconds having to type 'the' into the address bar here.

The patreon episodes are exclusive for a week, and then they'll be available on the site. The dvd episodes are never going to be on the site. So, yeah, eventually they'll be free to see. As far as "extended material" goes, that adds up to some blooper reels on certain shows, or maybe a recipe clip on Flaming Brian.

Shows like The Cinema Snob and new release Midnight Screenings go untouched.

My main question is what does Jake want to make that results in supervillain laughter?

Whatever it is, I'm so in.

Completely random tangent:
I own most of the DVDs(I'll get around to Paranoia eventually). You might want to rent/buy a better camera next time you do a compilation (the Snob Movie looks fine). The quality that works on a 15 inch monitor looks fugly on a big screen TV. Maybe the Patreon money could help with that? Or is it the compression from editing the files that's causing the drop in quality? I'm kinda terrified about what Shot on Shittio is going to look like. VHS movies looked like crap on 19 inch CRTs. I'm sure it'll be funnier than hell, though.

Brad's always contended, as recently as my chat with him at Days of the Dead Chicago, that he just has a shitty camera. Perhaps if the Patreon support is great enough per month he might have enough spare cash to upgrade to something better.

I'm not one of those that complains about episodes of the Snob covering pornos and shot on shitteo movies needing to be in pristine HD condition, but maybe a nicer camera or a decent shotgun mic might be reasonable for certain content he outputs. Some of the Brad Tries, SnobCasts, or Flaming Brians' could benefit from cleaner audio when in a highly echoy environment. I'm still watching no matter what, but just a few tips for the future. Ultimately, I think a lot of the money goes towards compensating the other members of Team Snob for their contributions since they will be producing more content as a group here, which I agree is of paramount importance.

Like I said, the quality of his videos works for the internet, but you can rent a Sony FS100U for less than 200 bucks a week, so if he takes some of the Patreon money for that and shoots the DVD content in that time-frame, it should be a solid gain in quality for little cash.

I do heartily approve of compensating the rest of team snob as well.

David

The first time I ever saw the Snob was his crossover with the Nostalgia Critic for Leprechaun.

For a long time I was only watching the Critic videos on TGWTG, but one day I saw the Snob review for Los Porno Sin Son... and I just had to know WTF. then I kept on watching since then.

I will be seriously looking to find a little room in my finances to support Team Snob. I watch more of Brad's content now than any other online video producer.

I believe mine was Jaws 5: Cruel Jaws after I had seen the Nostalgia Critic review of Jaws 3-D. Rather strange since Brad's referred to as the Snob in that crossover, but he's clearly not portraying the Cinema Snob, just a scripted version of himself, more or less.

The first one of Brad's videos I ever saw was the Midnight Screenings of World War Z. It was right when I had switched jobs and moved to a new city because of a break up and other changes. I was utterly broke and wanted to find out what World War Z the movie was like because I couldn't afford to go see it myself. I saw the link on TGWTG and clicked....

I liked Team Snob immediately, and watched all of the Cinema Snob and Midnight Screenings videos over the next month or so after that.

I've been around ever since.

The first video of Brad's I ever watched was a vlog review he did for The Boondock Saints II, with the first Snob episode I'd ever watched being Dolemite. I've been a regular viewer ever since, with his stuff being my favorite out of everyone on Channel Awesome.

As much as I'd like to participate in the Skype chat, I can't do the $100 a month. :( With that said, I do plan on pledging.

While there's a comment section inexplicably full of suggestions for future products, here's mine: I think Jake should have his own show, written by him, where he reviews children's movies. The dude is seriously funny; he could easily carry a review show by himself.. Nobody here or on Channel Awesome only reviews kid's flicks (The NC does a lot, but not exclusively), so there's a hole in the market. Plus, it would give him a chance to talk about movies he actually liked, since as we've seen in the ParaNorman and Lego Movie vlogs, he is actually a very insightful critic, and his joy upon seeing something that isn't so completely condescending to children is very infectious. Alternate that with some classic Angry Jake, sit him on a couch with a Willy Wonka poster behind him, throw in the odd cameo, and baby, you got a stew goin'!

Now merchandising! That's where it's at. I want Jake's face plastered on every cup from Chicago to San Francisco! Action figures of El Topo Chico! Flaming Brian turns up at your door and shows you how he got the name for fifty bucks! Little bags of Brad's beard hair! Get on the franchising! Three words, broskis: Canadian Snob. Understandable. But I assure you that the few of us involvolved in planning this took great care in this. That's why we chose specifically to go with a monthly plan as opposed to a per video plan. With the amount of content we already put out a per video plan would be extreme. The genius of patreon is that it gives us the freedom to use these donations in different ways and to have continuous support and ability to achieve all the goals we have. With kickstarter we would be limited to raising funds for one specific project.

Ah okay if the project has to be specific then I see why you couldn't use Kickstarter; I thought you could use it for things like "Fund this site for a Year" projects or w/e like how PBS/Mozilla/Wikipedia does.

Guess I'll have to consider setting up a specific account for patreon because otherwise I might forget and end up spending money I don't have.

Great to see this happen, but I'm kinda iffy on some of the milestones. I'd like to see a Snob animated series but what about some more realistic goals, like removing the mid-roll ads or giving Jake a "get out of bad movie free" card for one of the more worst movies he's gotta see. Just asking.

Reply
David
12/17/2014 03:13:12 am

Dude nobody but Jake wants Jake to have a get out of a bad movie card. And I hate to tell you but mid rolls are here to stay. Ad revenue is how Brad makes his living and is able to keep doing this stuff. The funds raised by patreon will give is the opportunity to do more. New shows. New movies. More cons. Better quality. And while we all love doing this stuff, because frankly it's a blast, this is going to allow brad to be able to throw something our way monetarily for our time and effort and be able to have somebody come in and lend a hand with the buisness side of things so he can focus on the good parts. But I tell ya what sir, if this starts doing well enough I'll make it my mission to try and get rid of midrolls. But to make that happen this whole thing would have to exceed our wildest expectations. We've always said we have the best fans, and the past day has been proof of that. The amount of support and generosity in such a brief amount of time has been amazingly gratifying. And we are all determined to make sure that we deserve it.

Though looking over your milestone goals and just the generous amount of perks it makes me just want to hand you my money.

Then agian I know i'll probably be a lowballer most of the time doing 2-5 bucks because well I have two other patreons i want to give to

I find it really silly that people are criticizing Brad for doing Patreon.
My guess is the people criticizing probably haven't watched the video or are just complaining because "Patreon is evil". Most of the money gotten doesn't go even to Brad. It goes to the team members that give their free time, be it off days or non-work hours, to help Brad do his shows. They deserve a little compensation for helping and giving away their free time for the shows we like. I'm sure it takes hours or days to film "The Reviewers", "80's Dan" , movie projects, and all the other stuff they do. I'm sure most of the filming for these shows has been out of their enjoyment of working together and enjoying what they're doing with little to no pay (Not saying Brad is slave laboring them, I'm sure he tries to compensate them for what they do for the site.) Now that they have a way to get a little something for doing this, without forcing fans to have to pay and still giving us free content, is great for them and I hope they make enough to help out the Team Snob members for their seven years of entertainment.

Of the money Brad does get, I'm betting it goes into making current shows better and funding his newer projects. Paying animators for his animated shows, paying actors for being in the movies, and etc. I doubt Brad starts not making shows or puts a decrease in the amount he does. Without shows Brad doesn't make money to live or continue the site.

"are just complaining because 'Patreon is evil'"

I've been seeing this a lot, and I really don't understand the problem that people have with Patreon. The only times I've had problems with people's Patreon accounts are when they're not actually producing anything (and, even then, my problems are fairly limited as generally the patrons will stop contributing if the content doesn't flow). Honestly, the patronage model strikes me as being a very positive one. If anything, the ad model is the evil one, as it (even if only indirectly) makes the creators beholden to business interests rather than their fanbase. I like the "no middle man" design way better. You like the content and have a few bucks to spend, you give money and they get money.

I also don't get the people who are crying "sellout" or claiming that people are being greedy. Dudes, seriously? In Brad's case, this is his fucking job. I highly doubt you'd be so blasé if people were claiming you "sold out" because you wanted to be paid to work at whatever scut job you work to make ends meet. And the rest of the team puts in a lot of time and effort and deserve some sort of compensation. Unless you're suggesting actors, writers, editors, crew, and the like just shouldn't make money. If you factor in equipment costs, website management and associated costs, taxes (which, depending on how Brad files, can be exorbitant for self-employed folks), other associated costs, and couple that with an (at least) 7 way split, I don't they're going to be swimming in cash. Hell, I'm willing to bet Brad and crew probably shell out over $3000 a year in movie tickets alone to do midnight screenings (depending on the cost of their theater). So calm the fuck down and watch your damned free Snob episodes, and if Patreon pisses you off so much, don't use it.

I don't understand why people are bitching about this stuff. Do people even realize that you guys spend your money to provide us with all the videos you make? You all have your own lives outside of this site. You have bills to pay just like all of us do. Getting a little help from the fans to continue to make these videos isn't a bad thing. Brad, it surprises me that you haven't done this sooner but hey all the power to you. I hope that you get enough donations to continue to put out new videos and start new projects.

To be honest we expected a bit of backlash. And we've recieved far less than we expected. Theres always a sense of ownership with the things people are passionate about. And we're no different. But no some people don't realize what goes into these silly little videos. Its not exactly the most fun way to put it, but it is the truth, this is a business. It's fun one to be sure, but a business regardless, and the videos on this site are our product. A product that is gladly provided for free. And as time goes by and our lives change Brad has been put in the position of either letting things evolve or stagnate. We have to change to keep going. But what were attempting to do is make things better for everybody especially our fans. We're not suddenly making this a subscription only service. Nor is that ever going to happen. Brad, Ryan, and myself have been talking about this and planning this move for a few months, and what this move affords us and our friends. And what we can provide in return for the generosity.

If this program and our great fans can provide us with what we estimate it will not only help those of us that have donated our time and effort for all these years with a little extra cash to improve our standard of living ( all of us with the exception of Brad work at least one full time job outside of the site). It will allow Ryan to come on full time to help Brad manage all the behind the scenes stuff, from video production to organizing cons to the taxes to advertising and so forth.

The end results we hope to have with that added stability is more material. A return of some old shows in a steadier and more regular schedule. The start of some new shows featuring members of team snob (jake'a idea makes me giggle whenever I think about it). A boost in quality as well be able to improve our equipment and standards. A movie or mini series every year. A solidly run store with high quality hand made merchandise. Maybe even a fun little movie festival somewhere down the line. These are all possibilities that we really want to make realities.

It's not greed as a few people have said. It's just a desire to do better and be better. Nobody will be getting rich on this end. We just want to do better. And we can't do it without some change. And this is our best first choice on how to do that and still be loyal to the people that have put us in the position to be able to be here in the first place.

We have no illusions. We know that we're lucky to have an audience. And we're grateful for what we do have. It's not greed to want to do more with that though. There is nothing better in the world than making things with your friends. It's amazing. Most of us have been doing this for free and would happily continue to do so for that very reason. But if we can build towards making this a bit of a living were willing to work for that. We're just asking for a little help. And we promise to make it worth everybody's time.

I'm so angry, why didn't Brad say any of this, even though he totally did say this in the trailer, the comments, and in forums; but I'm a troll so I need to fake outrage about something, grrrrrrr!!!!

You should get a bunch of corporate sponsors to fund your stuff, like I did for "Foodfight!".

I wonder how long Brad will calmly respond with "it will be exclusive for a week, nothing will change" to people that clearly didnt listen to anything the video said.I wouldve lost my cool at the first idiot that wrote "sellout".

I wonder how much I'd have to donate to get "The Hadley and Gobble Show"?
One glorious hour of David and Josh Hadley talking about anything and everything.

First off I wanted to say thank you ... for providing the means to be able to finally give back to Team Snob after all these years. You've entertained and educated me on “B” and lesser grade horror movies and exploitation that I would have had to dig deep in the archives to even find or know about, as well as what midnight screenings and current movies to watch or stay away from.

I've worked with special needs individuals for the past 7 years, and find your site very therapeutic in my unwinding process which is needed sometimes after a long, hard, demanding day of work. Your team provides consistently great humor and content which has kept me coming back to the website time after time, and which is why I felt the need to be a part of the continuing success of Team Snob. I've chosen to be a patron not only to see new content and the site flourish, but to also acknowledge the hard work and dedication your team has, and to thank you ALL for a job well done. So as I pull up a chair with a beer, or two, and a cigar in hand, I want to thank you again for all the hard work.

Thanks guys!

Screw it, I was looking to drop Loote Crate anyway. That $20 a month can go to you guys.

Been watching your reviews since they were only on youtube and you've expanded my DVD collection in fucked up ways (now it has a Nazisploitation section), might as well give back.

How can you mention such top quality Snob products yet completely ignore the big box?

Bring it back Brad, I want to hear the Automan theme, and Vics history of VHS companies. I don't care if you have Brian starring as the big box model, it's some of your best work.

When I can I'll donate to the patreon!

I want to right now but sadly I am broke as life but when I do get enough steady money to do so, it'll be at least 15$ so I can get the posters! (maybe even the t-shirts!) because I saw the sketched design on your twitter for the first one Dave, it's so good! <3

Man, I wish I earned more so I can help out you guys. Minimum wage bar work with no tips doesn't lend itself well to supporting others. I really wanted to send some British food and sodas as well. Would love to see what you think of Tizer.
