Im not gonna watch this movie on principal for not liking terrible movies of pretty white people attack by ugly scary crazy dark skin people, like that Owen Wilson movie before, racially disgusting to me.
Now when the Hotel Transylvania 2 review, I liked it (I mostly credit Genndy Tratavosky's visual gags and that Triumph Insult Comedy Dog guy punchlines, any gag I did not laugh, I blame Sandler) but I got crap to say about the messed up morals serving Sandler's ego like his other recent movies
Ugh. Go back to tumblr.
Dammit Brad, why isn't this video in 240p and shot from a webcam?
I wonder who the real DTF people are.....
I think that review is one of my favorite Brad Jones videos still. Something about the way it's written is just way too good.
Eli Roth urgh
I can't wait for Phelous to thrash it like the Hostel movies.
PS Brad the sequelbaiting for M Night mess The Last Airbender movie was not random, it was on the show with the character Azula princess of the Fire Nation, if you the watch the superior tv series you would know, and would probably be more mad at M Night.
Yeah but this is one of the things that just shows how much it doesn't work as a movie... cause it should work on it's own and it doesn't even manage that. Also considering it's just one movie, that makes that scene pretty random and it's just impossible to tell who she is. And yeah they did that on the show... but it made more sense there and here you could just have better left it out.
I actually kinda like Hostel 2... mainly for the set pieces, not the word salad of a story. The blood bath scene is still one of the most chilling in a slasher movie ever to me.
Violet still seems really shy in front of the camera.
I disagree, or at least I guess I can see what you mean but she seems less shy in front of the camera than some people who Brad has had on, especially given how often she's been on camera, and also I don't think it really matters if she seems really shy as she has more to say than other reviewers have either way.
I'm not really that shy honestly, in this video I was purposely not saying a whole lot and just letting Brad talk because I hadn't seen the movie :)
The bit of the crazy lady in war room was almost my favourite part of the review. I just don't wanna know what's been going wrong in this ladies life...
I don't blame you for not wanting to see "Green Inferno". I don't like gore either. I get very queasy.
The scene where the cannibals get stoned sounds amazing :)
I actually quite like the vlog reviews where it's more like a one-sided interview. Like this, or Brad explaining Old Fashioned to Dave or The Visit to Irving. My favourite Spoony vlog was him asking Miles about The Lone Ranger, and being so glad he didn't see it. I don't mind if the listener is pretty quiet, but it makes the speaker seem more engaging, because he has someone to bounce off of in real-time.
Violet is a very patient girlfriend for letting you go watch The Green Inferno by yourself.
Random disembodied voice screaming is awesome XD haunted house sweet while talking cannibal movies
ofcourse the black guy dies first ):..
War room god that movie doesn't go away lol
I spent the whole time pretending the distant screams were Jake. I'm not a nice person
I think you'll like Everest Brad! Gorgeous visuals, great performances, and a very bleaker survival story. I'm still in the up-and-up between good and very good on it, but check it out when you can!
I walked out right when the credits start. I did not see the end of credits scene.
You have more patience than me.
From what I've read from different sources, this movie was supposed to be Eli Roth taking the piss out of Social Justice Warriors. I think that's why that main guy is supposed to be obnoxious. He's supposed to be your super left-wing full of himself guilt-ridden white liberal hipster.
However, from what I hear of your description, it appears Roth didn't really go anywhere with that other than making the guy a huge douche. I was hoping more for something like South Park did in their episode where they took shots and Caitlyn Jenner and brought in a bunch of bros to enforce political correctness on everyone. Just take the most annoying traits of these kinds of people and run with it to the max.
Honestly, I wasn't sure about the Green inferno because of Eli Roth being apart of it, but the cannibals getting high and having the munchies may be worth checking out based on that when it's on Netflix. Also I was surprised Violet went to go see the war room, I figured it would have been at the end of it's theater run by now. Also knowing Eli Roth, and how he writes, how many times did douche bag call something or someone "gay" in this movie?
Yeah, I generally like Roth's movies, but he's not good at writing characters or dialog.
i miss the volcano menu so much.
Please talk!!!!!!! Stop just shaking your head!
Beyond the Green Inferno (2018)
You were right Brad, sequel!
i think brad should FILM a cannibal/survival film
Call it Black Inferno, and make this the theme song:
let's get more specific than that: Brad should film a cannibal survival film that's an unofficial followup to To Boldly Flee.
Just fucking kill off a bunch of the reviewers characters, Linkara gets eaten by Liefeld fans or something
i like cheese
I am cheese.
MON! KEH! CHEEZE!
The thing about Eli Roth is that he likes some good movies but so what? I like some old funk records. I can't play the bass and have two left feet.
Goddamn sleepovers. I had no fun at all watching Return of the Living Dead III at the age of 12
But I think Cannibal Holocaust tops that
If cannibals caught me and put me in a cell in order to eat me later,I too would jack off.At least Id have one last pleasure before death.
Worst I saw at a sleepover when young was Predator... But I'd already seen a myriad ton of slasher flicks before, so I was unaffected.
Not a fan of torture porn. I need to see a good horror movie soon... I still haven't seen Slither. I think I need to give that a rental.
"Separation of church and my ass!" *Chuck Norris chin punch*
Don't forget that Eli Roth's Knock Knock, essentially a Death Game remake with Keanu Reeves, hits theaters on the 9th.
Hey, Brad. If you get a chance and are up to it, you should check out Everest this week. It's pretty impressive.
Brad, I was curious as to why you hated "Cabin Fever" so much. To me it just seemed like kind of a nothing movie, but it wasn't so bad that I hated it. I actually thought the first two acts were fine, but act three (with the pancakes kid and Easter Bunny) was idiotic garbage, and it was painfully obvious Roth had no idea where he was going with the story. "Hostel," on the other hand, I thought was complete shit, with truly annoying characters, crummy production values and FX, and a nonsensical story.
Ten years later and I still don't understand what the point of the pancakes kid was.
To be funny and random. That's all. I don't think Eli had any deep meaning behind that, it was just a funny scene.
Forget volcano menu I still miss the wild burrito.
So bummed you did not like this movie! I loved it. Probably the best horror movie I saw this year (and I watch a disturbing amount of horror movies). That being said, SPOILER ALERT: the impression I got from the ending was she had pulled a 180 and was trying to get more protesters to go to the jungle to get killed. Oh, that sequel baiting was AWFUL. Still, 10/10 in my book.
Just watched the movie today, wasn't awful but the whole time before they got to the Amazon was cringe worthy with the dialogue and acting. And one thing, Brad, the tribe leader wasn't checking to see which girl was on their period, she was checking to see which one was a virgin. That's why the girls were squirming around so much.
Call me by Brad and I'll leave your comment up.
Aw, but I like acronym :( I wasn't aware you didn't, otherwise I wouldn't have used it.
- It's weird Brad doesn't like Eli Roth. They have similar taste in movies. Eli Roth clearly just makes the kind of movies he likes to watch: bad campy horror movies. It's obvious he makes characters that are annoying because the idea is that it's more satisfying to have them killed off. These movies are supposed to be fan for horror fans - so it's surprising to see Brad, Phelous, and other critics attempt to evaluate the movies at face value (adopting the stance of the usual critic) rather than what they're actually trying to be.
- Brad perpetuates the myth that the animals were pointlessly slaughtered in Cannibal Holocaust. The reality is that the animals killed in that movie were used for food and materials by the tribes. If you're going to complain about Cannibal Holocaust for this - you'd probably also want to start complaining about Apocalypse Now
1. Just because we have similar tastes in movies means I have to automatically like his movies? Also, Eli Roth certainly has a knack for making characters annoying, he just hasn't mastered making them watchable. Between the cringeworthy dialogue and the shit acting (in a bad way), he may be doing it so that we see them die, but at the end of the day I still have to spend a whole movie with them, and if they're spending the whole time annoying the shit out of me, then the movie is annoying as shit.
2. So clearly there was no other way to give food to or feed the tribes without filming the animals deaths and putting them in the movie for pointless scenes that easily could have been cut out? Nope, filming them being killed was clearly the only way to feed the tribes. (Same thing with the numerous other cannibalsploitation movies that also killed animals on camera). I'm sure that tiny coatimundi was turned into a nice fingerwarmer. They did it for shock value, plain and simple, and even the director has expressed regret.
And no, I'm not going to go off on a giant tangent of "oh and this movie did it too and that movie and this movie and that movie." We're not talking about Apocalypse Now, we're talking about Cannibal Holocaust. If we were talking about Apocalypse Now, I'd bring it up in a discussion about Apocalypse Now. I think me saying "if you're killing animals for the purposes of filming it and putting it in your movie, you're a dick" pretty much covers all of it. And if you've seen any of my other videos, you'll know that I actually have criticized other movies in the nonexploitation genre for doing the same thing. I talk about the animal cruelty in Heaven's Gate in my Snob episode for instance.
By the way, I still praised Cannibal Holocaust as being a very effective and disturbing and well acted film.
Of course you don't have to automatically like his movies, I wasn't implicating as such. Just said it was surprising that the only type of audience Roth's stuff has a chance with (horror afficianados) seems to more or less universally highly dislike his stuff.
I'm not seeking a debate, but you completely glossed over the point: if the animals were going to be killed and eaten anyways - what's the difference? You act morally superior yet you're completely okay with eating chicken and other animals that were treated with cruelty. I suppose you had a very special connection with that turte in Cannibal Holocaust?
I appreciate your response and your videos - I enjoy watching them, but it's just odd to hear you consistently rant on about animal cruelty when you're actually completely fine with it when it's convenient for you (such as when you're eating eating them for your internet videos to fuel your job).
Forgot to mention, I'm not a vegetarian in any way, so I'm not trying to impose any lifestyles on anyone :) I just think for example it might be in poor taste if I made a point about how awful animal cruelty is and then posted videos of myself directly supporting businesses that treat animals with cruelty.
I mean nothing but respect by the way. I was just sharing an observation, not trying to attack at all. Perfectly aware you don't have to live an extreme vegan life-style to say harming animals is bad, and I'm not going to say anyone's being a hypocrite. I just think in this case someone's words would be more consistent with their actions if they didn't support businesses that treat animals with cruelty (McDonalds, for example).
I apologize if my post sounded like an attack on your diet, it's not! :)
I'm not supporting the factory farming industry, but there's a big difference between killing an animal for food, and killing an animal for entertainment (to put in a movie). There's also no reason Deodato couldn't have used prosthetics, which is what it ultimately comes down to. "Cannibal Holocaust" is already enough of a cynical, downbeat movie as it is; it didn't need to include live animals being gutted.
You guys have to do a screening of SICARIO. I think it's one of the best movies of the year!!!
Brad you should check out Knock Knock Eli Roths other film this year personally thought it was really good.
