I'm actually heading out now to see Mad Max!
My favorite part was the guitar guy on the truck with the drummers that guy was insane.
Hands down that one truck was the best damn part of the whole movie.
I think another faith movie came out "Where Hope Grows" heres the link http://www.imdb.com/title/tt3200980/?ref_=hm_otw_t2
Hey Brad, were u dissapointed that there was no Bruce Spence cameo? I mean, i think the flame guitar guy kinda looked like him(i think)
Bruce Spence would be somewhere around 70 now, which is pretty old for action movies.
George Miller is seventy and he made the damn thing.
Sitting behind the camera and make general directoral orders is a whole lot different than being in front of the camera doing actions scenes and such.
Christopher Lee was pushing 80 when he did the Lord of the Rings.
My favourite of the original trilogy is Mad Max . I think its because you can feel the power of the cars just driving. They shot the car stuff at high speeds. Australian stuntmen were insane in those days. Watch Not Quite Hollywood.
Not seen this yet glad to hear it lives up to the trailer.
"Watch Not Quite Hollywood."
Yes! Anyone who hasn't done so should do this immediately.
I'm ecstatic to hear Fury Road is good. I wasn't convinced by the trailer.
I haven't seen all of Beyond Thunderdome in order either. It leaves me in a state of complete ungrippedness.
I was a bit worry about Charlize Theron being the main character in it because I don't like her very much, she play the same character in every movie for like 15 years, and it's not a very good one.
And for the rumor of feminist propaganda, well apparently Age of Ultron is a anti-woman propaganda according to the same people, so who care about their interpretation
La Boof took a SWING at Hardy? I just saw how Tom looked in 'Bronson'..... Does Shia have a fucking DEATH WISH!?
Dave takes Tom Hardy in the car just like he takes Brian in a car.
The men's rights crowd is bitching about this movie because it depicts a female character who rescues a bunch of other women from being sex slaves.
That speaks for itself.
Man's Rights, its the fucking Reddit He Man Woman Haters overgrown toddlers crowd.
Personally, I'm offended, too. Associating a proud profession of Post-Apocalyptic Earth with that crowd!
source? sounds like complete bullshit considering how many women in this movie are brutally tortured, raped and killed. if anything it would be the feminists who'd be up in arms about this kind of movie.
As far as I've seen, the feminists actually love this one.
You do realise your are equating a single trashy website to the entirety of men's rights advocates?
If you want to go down this path I could go to a radical feminist website and use their article on killing all men and replacing them with women is what all feminists believe.
"WAA-HAAAA! Mommy, Mad Max is exposing me to feminist agenda propaganda! I want to go back to my basement where there are no social justice warriors. Make me some mac and cheese while I play Call of Duty. WAAAAAAAA!!!!"
--I believe they sound something like that.
All of these articles link to the same trashy Return of Kings website. The point CommanderZx2 made is still valid. Honestly I don't get why they're giving this website so much coverage in the first place. Is the Guardian gonna write an article every time someone wants to boycott a movie for stupid reasons?
That original article was mostly in protest about max not being a main character, which is false. And the film wasnt exactly "feminist", Nux and Max were the most useful characters by far.
So, those article all link to a flawed article by one guy and claim its an entire league of men.
"I don't get why they're giving this website so much coverage in the first place."
If you don't understand why mass media publicizes the most dumbass, clownish, and assholish people and actions which can be, even falsely, linked to intellectual circles which go against the mainstream narrative, you shouldn't be allowed to vote.
its not men rights, it steems from a pick up artist blog bitching about max not being the main character.....which is false.
dont lump MRAs in with pick up artist.
who gives a shit
If this is what the Eeeeeevil feminazi agenda is going to bring us, than BRING ON THE MATRIARCHY!
No need to be a sarcastic fucking asshole either Kenta, I'm conservative and anti-feminist too but I'll probably check this film out any way. (besides, if I just pretend all the female victims are writers and contributors to Jezebel then everything will be made a thousand times better!) anyway, great reviews as always
I'm starting to see that Dave is wrong about...everything in what he's said. Miller was on for a JLA movie, sure, but his version sucked. And WB pulled the plug because of that piece of shit almost breaking the bank. Same goes for his POV of Harley, and what the fans did: buddy, BTAS has this with Harley. Plus, you want Bruce Timm on the DCCU: I could see that, but even he and Paul Dini liked MOS, Affleck as Batman, SS Harley, and the DCCU so far. So what could he do if he already likes it? I wouldn't be surprised if he did surprised if he gave you the same thing, but because Timm's name was on it, you would love it. It would just ass more negatives on you, man.
I may not want to watch anything like this, or anything from this site or Channel Awesome anymore. It's not what it use to be. No one was this much of an asshole cunt.
First of all, fuck you of sniveling little shit bag. The whole point of what we do is expressing our opinions. You might not agree, and that's fine, but you're being a fucking child about it. I read the miller script for jla. I liked it. Was it perfect? No. But it was a good script and very well recieved. The casting left some to be desired in my opinion. But I think miller's a good enough director to have pulled it off. As for my opinions on the dccu. So far it's not good. And yes I'd like Timm to head it up. But to think because he like man of steel he would have made the same thing is ridiculous. That's like saying because Tom waits liked a Kanye album he's going to do that style of music from now on. It's an asinine argument that has absolutely no merit. And I judge things based on their merit. I like Zachary Snyder. I've thouroughly enjoyed most of his movies. I think he has a very unique and interesting style. I also think man of steel sucks. Very much how I like Nolan but hated dark knight rises. And raimi but hated Spider-Man 3. And the Cohen Bros but really didn't care for burn after reading. Or the Beatles but can't fucking stand solo paul McCartney. We are CRITICS. What we do is be critical. If you don't care for my opinions then don't watch the videos I'm in.
God, what a fanboy cunt you are.
Are you one of those people who wants the DCCU to be just like the MCU, almost note for note? Because I don't. DC and Marvel should be their own things; in fact, doesn't everyone know that? I gotta say, the MCU has become the same old, same old for me. Avengers 2 wasn't all that great, and with the news of Civil War, it makes me wonder why that wasn't Avengers 2. Its more safe than risky. Truth is, the Marvel movies entertain me, but they don't stay with me; out of all of them, Iron Man 1, Avengers, and Winter Solider were the best ones. The rest weren't bad, they were just not memorable to the point where I had to remind myself what happened in them after I saw them. DC does both entertain and stick with me, and I really think any movie with Superman and Batman would be enough against Avengers, not just JL. Regardless if you hated MOS, I'm fighting against the criticisms that aren't really there like everyone else has done. Me? Problems with the first half, that's it. Doesn't sound like a bad movie with that. And BvS, which you have immaturity written off already, seems to have taken a stand against one or more of them. Heck, it's in the teaser. Me? I'm cautious over BvS, but I don't think it'll be bad, unless something really happens. I kinda want BvS to be a good movie so that it could change people's minds over MOS.
Just because you're a "critic" doesn't mean you're a good one. You make fun of people for liking MOS or TDKR, and you want respect? Stop acting like this, and you'll see results. Okay, fanboy?
........damn. Dave is not fucking around today. (Although assuming this is actually Dave and not some poser troll.)
Oh boy, Brad's gonna be getting a call for this one.
I mean, I AGREE with you Dave, in that you shouldn't have to defend your subjective opinion, in that even good directors have their misses and, the in that DCCU is looking severely troubled. The biggest problem I have is that they're doing it all at once, to "catch up" to Avengers, without testing the individual heroes first. Maybe Avengers did prove the concept, but they still need to prove the characters. Throwing everybody in as cameos into BvS seems like absolutely the wrong way to do it. It seems desperate, and that's not what you want to be when you're establishing a franchise.
"God, what a fanboy cunt you are."
... Because he doesn't like something? Perhaps you need to look up what fanboy actually means.
Ugh, what's wrong with you people MoS wasn't that bad blah, blah, blah!
Now, if I may move on with my life, I'm sooooooooooooooo psyched for Max!
For the longest time I've never seen the Mad Max films, but when I watched the Tom Jane Punisher I was furious with his origin. He & his family came across mobsters executing a guy & were left for dead. So where the hell did THIS come from?! The director said Mad Max so I checked it out. Other than the tedious slow parts it's an excellent origin story with memorable villains, which is hard to do apparently, Road Warrior took it to the next level with the action AND the villains! Which if I have any negativity with the first two that's it, you have great villains but there's no showdown fight with them & Max, why not?! Especially Lord Humongus, I so wanted to see him throw down at the climax, what a waste. I haven't seen Thunderdome, I actually found it yesterday for cheap but thanks to YOU guys I'm worried about watching it. I mean if Brad & Dave says it sucks it must be bad, right? But I'll give it a chance. Though I must agree with y'all about the lack of color with DC, it's so irritating. Despite our feelings with the films I think we can all agree the costumes are great but the lack of color moots them. Even as an old school fan I can forgive the "New 52' vibe but would it kill you to give them color?! You have Superman, Batman, Wonder Woman, & Aquaman lined up in the comics they have their own color scheme, now they all look the same! No damn it! Only Batman is dark, it's contrast to the rest of the team, fools!
Ugh, rant over. Oh wait, almost forgot:
I WANT A DREDD SEQUEL!!! Take a cue from Wolf Creek 2 & do it straight to dvd, that's where most discovered it anyway!
Also, Poltergeist looks like another jump scare marathon with influence of Paranormal Activity. But the fact that Raimi & co are producing it, I may give it a chance. Hope it's better than the Babadouche. . . ugh.
My apologies, Masta Brian was the one who didn't like Thunderdome.
Anyway, just finished it & it had it's moments but overall sucked. But it's never easy to have a solid trilogy, though I guess the Indy trilogy succeeded. Die Hard is an odd case in the 3 is my favorite. . .
& that NEVER happens! Mel was still great & Tina Turner was fine but it wasn't enough. Also I hate annoying kids so that doesn't help.
someone's mad over a movie and someones opinion. lol
ROAST BEEF DICK
I enjoyed making this movie way more than I did Transformers 3!
I saw Mad Max: Fury Road last night and I can't get over it, it's so amazing! I already know that it's my favorite movie of the year, because Star Wars won't have the kind of surprises that Mad Max has. As for the stuff you guys mentioned:
1. The rubber thing on the muscular guy's chin was to hold up his breathing tubes. He had breathing tubes attached to this oxygen tank thing on his back.
2. George Miller made it a point that this was going to be as colorful as possible because everything else is so muted. He first thought of that because of other Post Apocalyptic movies at the time of the first production design, and then all the superhero movies that came out became greyed out too.
3. Tom Hardy maintains that Shia LaBeouf knocked him out on set during Lawless because he attacked him for no reason. This is right between Hardy filming Warrior and The Dark Knight Rises. LaBeouf said he was just playing. I believe Tom Hardy.
4. Tom Hardy has signed on to do three more Mad Max movies. Yup.
Three more, are you serious?
Ok, if we can get just ONE more Mad Max then I'll quit bitching about a Dredd sequel. I saw it last night & except for the first half hour where the fighting was statically fast motion it was ridiculously crazy awesome! Oh please let there be more!!!
Dag, is an Australian slang term. As far as I know it means refers to an awkward messy, unselfconscious, unfashionable, unconventional person usually used in an affectionate way
Or the dried shit that accumulates at the rear end of a sheep and eventually needs to be cut out.
Best not to confuse the two.
I must be one the very, very few people who unironically loves Beyond Thunderdome. The different ways society is being rebuilt are actually interesting, Tina Turner is a very effective antagonist, and it has the fucking dwarf from Tod Browning's Freaks riding around on his own personal muscle man.
And I'll admit that the stuff with the kids gets a little hokey, but I love the little culture they have set up. It's an almost completely unique society with its own legends and traditions cobbled together from the tiny scraps of information they have about the old world. I just find that shit fascinating.
actually I love Beyond Thunderdome too, it's so much better than the first Mad Max in my opinion. I love that one bad guy who just doesn't seem to ever die.
Iron Bar, I believe. He was more resilient than guitar guy in Fury Road. XD
You're not alone. I realize that Thunderdome is the most campy of the 4, but before Fury Road, It was my favorite.
Speaking of the Cars, did you know they drove them down the Sydney Harbour Bridge as a promo for the movie?
Fury Road is without a doubt the best Action Movie since Dredd. It's imaginative, epic, with well developed characters and awesome action scenes.
Also, no mention of the whole Feminist Controversy? It's everywhere on the Internet.
The best part in the Fury Road imo was when Max and the other dude sprayed gazoline into the air intake to get more torque. Priceless.
Oh, and the hand gesture they make, crossing fingers, that's "V8 sign"(!!), as Miller put it, I would've never guessed it had a meaning at all, I guess silver paint has some meaning too.
I haven't seen Mad Max Fury Road yet, but from what I've heard of it I think I'd like it.
I like it that Max isn't the main focus because if Max was the focus the movie would suck; because you just can't have a true Max that isn't Mel Gibson. I also like it that the actual main character is female, because if they just got another male protagonist, there wouldn't be much to differentiate that guy from Max.
So since they didn't want to get Mel Gibson, they got a kick ass woman. And you know what? That's the probably one of the most creative spins on a franchise that I've seen in a while.
I'm surprised that it's gotten 97% on Rotten Tomatoes though, very few movies get such an honor, hell even Harold and Maude doesn't have that high of a rating, and that movie is a straight up one of a kind masterpiece.
Harold and Maude is my shit dude, I love that movie so much.
The reason Vin Diesel is doing The Last Witch Hunter is because he's a massive nerd who loves that fantasy stuff. I mean Riddick is basically space Conan. Also he has a tattoo of his favorite DnD character's name.
those things you are talking about at about 10:00 are these;
except without the animal costume over it. it was a total dark crystal reference.
Obviously this week is all about Mad Max and I will end up watching that ASAP. It's probably the most important action movie in decades and it look utterly bonkers.
But honestly also excited for Pitch Perfect 2. I don't think it will be as good as the original, which I thought was one of the better films in that genre but glad to hear the sequel isn't bad as the trailers kind worried me about it, but most likely wont see it in theaters.
But holy crap Jem looks like a travesty! They took out all the fun and enjoyment of the cartoon which I feel mostly still holds up and the fantasy/sci-fi elements of it are really cool and love how it had thing surreal 1980's MTV feeling to it. Sad this didn't emulate Scott Pilgrim and give it a more updated heightened reality and instead is a boring rock tale that should be on Disney Channel. Even Josie and the Pussycats tried harder than that with it's satire of the music industry and product placement in films. Sad about this!
But lastly I agree with Dave in retrospect Miller's Justice League not happening is disappointing with what he apparently did with MM:FR. It could of been special, at least it would be brighted and not be full of muted colors and blacks and grey palate. Seriously in 2015 who wouldn't want to see Armie Hammer as Batman over Affleck being dour again in superhero movie. Really can't see anyone saying anything positive of the DCCU after that trailer and than the reveals of Suicide Squad. Honestly it all looks utterly botched and poorly executed. At this point only The Flash starring Ezra Miller and being written by Phil Lord and Christopher Miller gives me only hope. But yeah pass on anything involving DC till they dump Snyder.
Even from the initial announcements last Spring there was reason to be wary of what was going to happen to the Jem movie. After a couple months into development, they mentioned that they wouldn't have the Misfits in the movie, and basically everyone who watched the TV series dropped their hopes for the film as soon as they heard this. Then came the trailer this week, to bulldoze any remaining fragments of anticipation away.
I'm so upset the Jem movie looks so bad, partially because I'm a huge fan of Jem and the Holograms and partially because Aubrey Peeples is an amazing singer/actress who I want to support but she's going to be in this and I feel conflicted.
God damn, Mad Max is so fucking good!
I believe George Miller said this takes place BEFORE Beyond Thunderdome
i thought john wick was really good too, just as a mention
Am I the only one with burning hatred of beyond the thunderdome?
I'm embarrassed to admit that I have yet to see a Mad Max movie. I always showed some interest but never enough to sit down and watch one for some reason. I am now DETERMINED to see Fury Road first chance I get because it looks really fun and imaginative.
On a side note, I definitely agree with you about the melancholy versions of classic songs, Brad. I first took notice with Stand by Me in the Brick Mansions trailer. Some of the songs are so melancholy that I thought they were original songs until I looked them up like with Dracula Untold and Terminator Genisys. They even do it in freaking Avengers with the "I've Got No Strings" song from Pinocchio and that really ticked me off and I was rolling my eyes at San Andreas too. If they turn another light song like "The Lion Sleeps Tonight by the Tokens into a dark trailer song, I'm going to punch whoever decided that in the face.
Pitch Perfect was based on a non fiction book "Pitch Perfect: The Quest for Collegiate A Cappella Glory"
Doesn't look like anyone said it yet, so yeah; a cappella's without any accompanying instruments.
Instant hyping, do you morons actually think anyone will buy into it if you make it that obviously fake?
Is it true that pitch perfect 2 will out do mad max?
Also i can't believe people are bitching about female leads ...come on guys lets just have fun...
Yay Ryan and sarah
Is it a sin that i've never seen any of the mad max's ?
Max has already made over 20 million.
But PP2 has made almost $30 million already.
as a shitty pg-13 dance flick.
which one do you think is going to flame out faster?
Oh pitch perfect 2 did beat mad max poop cakes
A sin? No, but if you can, for some reason, only see one I'd say check out Road Warrior. As much as I l enjoy Mad Max it takes him a looooooooooong time to actually get mad. Road Warrior gets to the action sooner. However if you crave a fully fleshed out origin story it's one of the best, so you won't lose either way :) But if it IS a then I suppose I'm also a sinner for not seeing Casablanca, Citizen Cain, Top Gun, Wayne's World, Bill & Ted & many other "classics".
ok =D i'll check it out then
I've never seen casablance or citizen cain top gun lol
we are on the same boat XD
A pleasure, madam lia :)
im pretty sure they are using background tracks in the movies, having seen both of them now ((i don't know why)) its to perfectly sounding to the original track, even the best of acapella groups have a bit off pitch from the original song because it is impossible to recreate a beat created by technology, if you want to see a true acapella group in action take a look at pentatonix
One little detail my brother picked up on Fury Road was that the 'Valhalla" speech that Immortal Joe says and that Nex worships by is said by the Night Rider in the First Mad Max. Bible Allegory perhaps?
I love that Ryan is explaining Jem to Sarah. I need to find me a man that doesn't mind watching girly shows...other than just MLP.
I used to watch all of those cartoons. To me, it's not the fact that it was girly, it was the fact that it was a cartoon. As an animator that's what draws me still.
To reiterate my post on the forums... Is it truly outrageous? truly truly truly outrageous?
Vin Diesel was the voice of Groot, lol. I mean, that's a pretty limited roll, but that WAS him.
If you want to see a good Jem and the Hologram reboot check out the IDW comic by Kelly Thompson and Sophie Campbell.
Yes, Bizarro World Jem, where headstrong Jerrica is unconfident, boy-crazy Kimber is gay (just to be shipped with fat Stormer), athletic Aja is dumpy and out of shape, and Shana who originally looked like young Whitney Houston, looks like Oprah Winfrey.
Now if Pizzazz has been rewritten to be the poor trash that matches her redesign and (now black) Jetta's parents are rich, with Roxy being the most well-read and Stormer being the sassiest... I think I would like to see that.
Yeah, that comic is fantastic. It's respectful of the source material while still being it's own thing.
I was hoping the movie would follow suit, but alas it's apparently going to be some Hannah Montana influenced piece of crap.
But, I'm glad we at least get the comic out of this.
I think these DC movies coming out might be pretty good. A lot of time, money, and talent is getting put into them, and it seems to be getting put into the right places (it seems like they finally realized that origins aren't necessary and popular characters can just appear, and the story seems to be getting a lot of attention on Dawn Of Justice from what I've seen with heavy borrowing from TDKR), and they're trying to fix up the MoS Superman they created instead of flinching from his mixed reception and making up a new one, which would have been a disastrous error.
oh man I just got back from Mad Max and FUCKING HELL was that a good time! And thankfully we had a packed screeining. We had maybe 6 seats left, so I have hopes it will perform well in germany.
I don't know DC movie decisions seem to scream desperation. Instead of doing a sequel to Man of Steel that would fix the problems they do this dour battle between Superman and Batman which seems overly desperate.
Than your next movie is Suicide Squad which makes zero sense since you haven't introduced any of these characters before and they are not known intities apart from Joker so them being expolited in a dangerous suicide mission doesn't work and plus their looks again looks muted and bleak except Harley Quinn which I don't mind that much though wish she looked more clown like instead of like an emo girl. But this is what based off 52 and Arkham Asylum look? So okay fine.
Though will say the looks of Aquaman, think Jason Momoa is great pick to make people care about the character and think in terms of how the more recent comics depict him than making him be like an underwater Khal Drago actually works and Wonder Woman is kind of cool though not sold on Gal Godot at all, felt she was actively horrible in those Fast and Furious movies, but like Patty Jenkins directing though wish it was still Michelle McClaren who did amazing episodes of Breaking Bad and Game of Thrones.
But really the only think really exciting me is the prospect of a Lord/Miller Flash movie, which makes me think it will have the right tone that DC should be going for and thank god for that. I mean don't want them to exactly copy Marvel but the dour, overly aggressive tone needs to be lightened up real fast.
Really when you look at the color corrected Man of Steel it actually becomes a much better film. Just need to stop treating this deathly seriously. I feel DC should ground stuff more with their characters they are really bad when they do stuff like Marvel but at the same time it's gone too far to the other side. Even Nolan knew that and still realized ultimately this is based off pulp fiction and you need to have some fun with the story while trying to make an overarching point. In comparison Nolan's films feel like campy 1960's Batman to what Snyder and others are doing!
Going to see it in a couple of hours and monday again ... in 4dx :D
Hahaha after going off how stupidly dour B v S is now comes a rumor that Doomsday will be a major villain in the film. Well of course they'd do this! Sigh..... http://moviepilot.com/posts/2015/05/17/doomsday-may-appear-in-batman-v-superman-2937474?lt_source=external,manual
Time for some Wiseguys!
Since nobody seems to have Googled it yet, Pitch Perfect is based on a non-fiction book about a cappella groups titled <i>Pitch Perfect: The Quest for Collegiate A Cappella Glory</i>. So I have to imagine it wasn't a particularly rigid adaptation, but they took general ideas of how a capella groups work and the title itself.
I just saw Mad Max today, and it was freaking AMAZING. That is all. :)
Hey, 80's Brad.
So that to let you know, there's people like these https://www.youtube.com/user/ManiacSynth/playlists out there. Enjoy.
I personally was a bit disappointed with Fury Road. While I enjoyed the atmosphere and locations, there was a bit too much reliance on CGI for me and the editing was way too quick. But I enjoyed a lot about it, it could just have been made more like the original Road Warrior in my opinion. If you're gonna make a throwback action movie, then do it properly all the way, you know?
Too much CGI? There was like 10% CGI used, if that. Most of it was traditional special effects.
That made the obvious CGI very jarring to me, like the sandstorm and the CGI blood... cause of how many practical effects there were, the CGI stood out like a sore thumb to me.
I also have to disagree about Tom Hardy doing a good Max. To me he came off wrong, a bit too "caveman" like. I wanted him more smartass and such, he did not sell me as Max personally.
I really want to thank Dr Aluta for saving my marriage. My husband really treat me bad and left the home for almost 1 month, i was sick because of this and not my self any more so i told my friend about my husband situation then she told me to contact Dr Aluta a spell caster that he will help me bring back my husband then, i contacted him he told me that my husband is under a great spell of another woman. They cast a spell of return back of love on him, And he came back home for good and today we are happy family again. so (1) If you want your ex or divorce partner back.(2) if you always have bad dreams.(3) You want to be promoted in your office.(5) If you want a child. (6) You want to be rich. (7) You want to tie your husbandorwife to be yours forever.(8) if you want a lottery spell yo an reach him on his email email@example.com
I can't tell whether or not this is serious.
Am here to testify what this great spell caster done for me. i never believe in spell casting, until when i was was tempted to try it. i and my husband have been having a lot of problem living together, he will always not make me happy because he have fallen in love with another lady outside our relationship, i tried my best to make sure that my husband leave this woman but the more i talk to him the more he makes me fell sad, so my marriage is now leading to divorce because he no longer gives me attention. so with all this pain and agony, i decided to contact this spell caster to see if things can work out between me and my husband again. this spell caster who was a woman told me that my husband is really under a great spell that he have been charm by some magic, so she told me that she was going to make all things normal back. she did the spell on my husband and after 5 days my husband changed completely he even apologize with the way he treated me that he was not him self, i really thank this woman her name is Dr Aluta she have bring back my husband back to me i want you all to contact her who are having any problem related to marriage issue and relationship problem she will solve it for you. her email is firstname.lastname@example.org she is a woman and she is great. wish you good time.
I like the one with Tina Turner and the midget who rides around on the big guy.
Any midget who rides around on a big guy has my support.
This was probably my most anticipated movie of the year and I must be the only person on Earth that thought it was a dissapointment. What good is all this amazing mind blowing action if theres no character development? It's called Mad Max and we learn way more about Nick Hault and Charlize's character than Max's. Yes I've seen the other movies and I know there's not much character development there. But I did not like the frame manipulation. I think the way they sped it up in the other movies way better/ It looked choppy like you were about to glitch out on cod.
Now the cinematography and music were kick ass. Some of the best action sequences I've ever seen. Absolutely. But to me, I don't know. It just felt like I didn't have anyone to pull for. If Max could have drove that rig away he would've gladly left Charlize and the wives at the hands of the immortal.
I know that Max isn't supposed to be a boy scout, I get that. I don't know. For me this was just an ok movie overall with amazing glorious action sequences.
No character development? I totally disagree with that. There was a lot of character development amongst the characters, especially Nux, who was this brainwashed fool who finally realized the faux leader wasn't worth fighting for. And no one to root for? Again, I disagree. I was rooting for Furiosa and the wives. I was rooting for Max. So I don't see why you couldn't. Fury Road is, in my opinion, the best in the franchise. Yes, I know, you disagree. That's okay. It's all opinion. I was just pointing out that your comments about no character development were a little inaccurate.
I agree. Not sure why this movie is getting so much praise!
I mean 2-hour action spectacle? Sure, it did look great with some great action sequences. But the characters.... Why do I care about these people, what they are doing and why they are doing it? You can have all of the great action sequences in the world but that means nothing if I don't care why they are doing it.
Oh my god I had such a blast,,, 2 hours of action that does not get boring and full of purely insane fun. Man I hope this makes profit and maybe Hollywood will stop making polished bullshit actionfilms like the fast and furious stuff.
Be as it is... THANK FUCKING GOD this movie was made, coz I can't remember when was the last time that the whole room had such a party while watching a movie in a cinema.
I just got home from seeing Mad Max at the Alamo Drafthouse here in the Dallas, Texas area, and I have to say it is by far the best Mad Max film in the entire franchise. Are there some minor flaws I could nitpick? Sure. But I'm not gonna do it cause that movie was so damn good that I don't care. I can't wait for it to come out on DVD. It's a shame it won't make back it's budget of $150 million this weekend, though. Why the fuck people want to see a piece of shit comedy sequel to Pitch Perfect, which was godawful, I will never get. Fury Road is absolutely fantastic in its story telling! :)
I just saw Mad Max: Fury Road today and it as fantastic! If ya haven't seen it yet, then go out and see it as soon as ya can. It was just great!
I saw it in 2D, due to the only showtime that I could make it to today, but I'm so seeing it again due to it's awesomeness!
But I can't decide if I want to see it in 3D or not this time. I know Brad and the gang recommended the 3D, but I want to know if any of you guys saw it in 3D and agree if it's worth the extra few bucks.
I dunno, I'm going to say Mad Max is being very overrated. I mean it was fun and action-filled, sure, but I'm not sure I really cared about a darn thing going on it or about the characters. The action scenes are greatly done but I don't have a reason to care about what is going on.
Someone above says it's how movies should be made over, say, Furious 7. Really? Two hours that are mostly just action sequences with not much really to go on with the characters or why we should care about why we're doing all of these things? I mean, pester the F&F all you want for it's problems but it at least has characters, interactions, and there's some reasons to care about the characters on at least *some* level or some grasp of what everyone is doing and why. MM? Uhhh. A bunch of insane stuff happens because insane stuff has to happen.
I enjoyed this movie, had fun in it, great action sequences and everything but cinema changing? All movies need to be like this? Really? Just two hours of pretty much chaos and action sequences and no reason to really be invested in it other than it looks cool?
Again, I liked MM:FR, but it doesn't strike me as being all that groundbreaking or great as far as movie-making goes because there's no plot or story here! Cool action scenes? Tons! Lots! Awesome! The characters? Well, the red-head girl was hot so I wanted her to live and... I dunno, the sick albino guy was sorta funny and became a character to care about towards the middle of his arc. But Max? Furiosa? Uhhh... Yeah. Not sure they were really characters or just greasy grunters there to provide "story."
I liked MM but, really, if movies become more like this just being 2-hour long effects/action spectacles and less like, having *storie s( flimsy and stupid as they may be)" then, guess I'm not going to he movies much longer.
I agree. The movie is good, but over-rated. As far as going back to the way action movies used to be goes, I think Dredd did a better job of that than Mad Max: Fury Road. I've been watching Mad Max movies since I was a kid, but this one didn't make me feel an overall sense of nostalgia like I thought it would. I guess people are just tired of all action movies being safe plays that are based on comic books. A movie like Mad Max then strikes a chord in the audience and they amplify how good it is.
Tom Hardy is 5'9", how is he 5 Times bigger than you?
Just saw it again, still awesome! Although I must ask, did anyone else notice the brief clip of T2? After Max wakes from the sand storm there's a flash of what looked like T-1000 flailing around in the molten steel. I saw it on my first viewing but thought I was nuts, this movie's insanity infects you it's so good, but I saw it again today. Odd.
According to the info I could gather, timeline-wise Fury Road takes place between first and second movie, it's a midquel, so, technically, the "apocalypse of apocalypse" is actually the FIRST "apocalypse" (before that - there was first movie), because essentially it's the beginning of when everything totally went down to shit. Fury Road happens not long after the first movie, when the world only started to have weather cataclysms and other crap, that's why there are sand tornadoes and other shit in Fury Road. Don't forget that almost entire series are basically happening on Australian continent, and that's a place which can span huge tornado easily due to the local terrain's nuances (like massive open territories with plains and etc).
In case it hasn't been mentioned, the move Locke is AMAZING! It's basically all Tom Hardy talking on the phone in his car to various people and it's totally engaging! And no one seems to have heard of it! Total travesty!
Looks like I'm not the only one who just can't get beyond Thunderdome.
The Doof Warrior helped me finally get Beyond Thunderdome. That's how magical the guitar dude is.
That's it! Go to your rooms, both of you!!
I swear this is the second movie Dave & Brian have called, "the greatest action movie ever" this year.
Didn't they say almost the same thing about Kingsman? I mean, don't get me wrong, this was awesome, but... damn, I just loved Kingsman.

THIS MAN IS GREAT THANKS FOR WHAT YOU HAVE DONE FOR ME.I WILL CONTINUE TO SHEAR THIS TESTIMONY TO THE PUBLIC IN THE INTERNET.
I made this warlock Omofuma's penis smaller with a simple incantation. I also made his house neon green for some reason. Email me at email@example.com for whimsical spells from all schools of sorcery, divination, and so on! I also sell flying rugs and dragons!
The dag was the crazy blonde wife. Rock rider was not the guitar guy. Rock rider was the guts on dirtbikes riding all over those cliffs. Guitar was called the Doof or something like that. Still a great movie.
This is a very interesting article that people may want to take a look at.
The article is dead on: this film IS a miracle.
Fury Road is one of the best films I have ever seen - every bit as remarkable as the first two Max films. It's nice to know I'm not becoming bitter, cynical and hate-filled as I age. Fury Road left me feeling like I did when I was seven and leaving the theater after seeing Star Wars for the first time and Fury Road also has much more depth, substance and imagination than that movie. Apparently the reason I'm dissapointed in so many new movies is that they really ARE mediocre. Miller dropped a bomb here that makes all the other so-called "blockbusters" of the last decade or so look like the damp squibs they really are.
THANK YOU to Brad and friends for convincing me to go see this movie!
I still think this movie is being ridiculously, ridiculously overrated. People are acting like it's freaking the Next Coming of Movies when it was just a really good, well-done, action flick. Give it a few months people will be bashing it and scratching their heads wondering why they were so ga-ga over it.
It was a fun, enjoyable, movie but I'm not sure why a 2-hour-long over-the-top car-chase with a very, very, very thin feminist-like glaze (about like the frost on your car on a cold winter morning) is getting so much raving excitement.
No, Fury Road isn't overrated. It's truly one of the most over the top fun movies we've ever had.
You want overrated? You need look no further than "The Dark Knight". People say it's the "best comic book movie ever". Is it really? All I sea was a pretty good cop drama with appearances by a dude in an asinine over padded suit in desperate need of cough drops chasing a Crow impersonator. Then there's "Joker". I regret harping on it once again but Heath's Joker, "realistic" bullsh*t look aside, was an interesting, warped take on a classic character. Nothing more, nothing less. But oh dear, do I get chewed out if I dare speak ill of it, or have gall to dare say I prefer Nicholson or Romero! No my friend, Fury Road is an immensely entertaining flick, which is, after all, what it aimed to be. It's fine if you don't like it, but overrated?.
I hate going down THIS road again but as much as FR is loved is about how much Man of Steel is hated. Does that mean MoS is underrated? I wouldn't think so, to me that says not everyone liked the new take on Supes & prefer the more traditional stuff. Great! But for the few of us (& I mean few) who don't hate it, we look forward, hesitantly, toward the future of DC films. So yeah, you don't like it? That's fine! Peace be with you all the same, good sir! :)
"I had a baby brother, and he was perfect! Perfect in every way!"
Okay, now we need to get John Carpenter to direct a new Snake Plissken. And then, a movie where Max meets Snake!
I know I'm gonna enjoy Justice League. And I know I'm gonna have to put up with assholes like Dave telling me I'm a retard for liking it.
Forgive my intrusion, but I'm with you, Randy!
Though to be honest I'm mostly seeing BvS for Ben. I'm not much a Supes fan but I do hope they brighten him up a bit, if nothing else give the suit some color, please! But I'm totally in support of Batfleck, I'm one in the minority who not only like the Daredevil film but I think Ben was great as Matt/DD, & though I rarely think in simple terms, I feel if he can play DD he can do Batman. As far as I'm concerned he's halfway there after seeing his finally comic-accurate suit (oh what a lovely suit!). I hope the robotic voice is used only with the armored suit, it's not as bad the Bale growl but still.....
How about Suicide Squad? Dave HATES that too. Again, the only characters I know are Joker, Harley, Deadshot & Croc so they're the ones I follow news on. I'm psyched Croc's realistic looking without going full Nolan where he barely resembles the comic. Deadshot looks fine, though his cyber eye piece is always on the right eye, but whatever. Joker & Harley look great I don't care what ANYBODY says. Joker (minus the tats) is back to the bleached skin, green hair & fancy suits, you know, like the majority of the comics! As far as Harley goes I recently saw a message board labeled "that's not MY Harley!" & I remembered how angry I was when the first images of Heath's Joker got out. See when I heard he was cast, never once did I say "the gay cowboy?! Wtf? No, no, no. I was intrigued, then I watched A Knight's Tale with the sole purpose of seeing him crack a smile. He did, it looked great & I was sold. Then I see the film. Fine movie, good performance, but that's not MY Joker. Fast forward to now & that's what everyone's saying for Harley, blah blah blah. Difference? Like it or not, Robbie's Harley looks like the comics. New 52 unfortunately, but source material none the less. So yeah there's gonna be A LOT of hate. From Dave & others who'll refuse to give it a chance & probably STILL hating it afterwards. Whatever, I'm done arguing with everyone on what I like.
Sorry for ranting my reply, Mr. Pan. But when I see few others like me I must assist with my "fanboy" speeches. :)
Oh, I don't care if they hate it, it's the "You like that? You retard!" that pisses me off.
Understood. Judge not, lest you be judged............ by Judge Dredd!
While I enjoyed this movie I am not exactly sure why everyone is freaking out over it. Its basically just a bunch of cool ass action scenes and some minor explanation as to what the hell is going on. Maybe I just want more out of my movies than just cool action scenes with the odd bit of world and character building I guess. I don't regret watching it at all but its a bit like last year's Godzilla. I probably won't ever want to actually rewatch it.
And that's your view of things. What right do I have to spew hatred toward your opinion? I mean, I suppose living in America I'm free to, but I won't.
I will however implore you, Captain, not to compare Mad Max to Godzilla. Seeing as the title character is actually in the movie, & when HE isn't on screen we have a plethora of interesting characters to entertain us & carry the story.
Still, I respect your opinion, El Capitan!
I don't know what the big deal is either. I guess it's something of a miracle that such off-the-wall movie exists nowadays, but that's more of a reflection of how people think of movies these days. I don't know why such a big deal has been made for Mad Max: Fury Road. The movie does follow the trend of the previous sequels, Max appears, something knocks him out of commission, someone takes his stuff, he gets out of it, helps people that are trying to get to somewhere else. This time, however, it's all amped up and mutated into a grotesque mess of action scenes and noise. I did enjoy the literal reversal of the end goal, go back to the livable place you already know. Tom Hardy was good as Max. Charlize Theron was good as advertised. I think I would like to see it again, on Blu-Ray. I think the bass sound level in my theater ruined the experience for me. The movie is visually rich and I tried to focus on that, but the sound was annoying as fuck.
I enjoyed the night scenes with the blue tinting
Ryan is the Jem expert.
Can't wait for his review of the film.
Wonder if he will cosplay.
Regarding Kingsman, I liked the movie when I first saw it, but the more I thought about it, the more I came to realize how disdainful and disgusting it actually is.

I know this was like a year ago, but if anyone's still interested, here's the answer to whether instruments were used.
According to this article from Post Magazine, there were no instruments, but there were guitar, bass, and drum vocalizations, plus a beatbox. With the vocalization technique, apparently you are singing through an instrument, so it is still your voice rather than the instrument that is causing the sound (think Peter Frampton and his talk box).
Kevin O’Connell, re-recording mixer at Universal Sound Studios, handled the music and dialog mix on the film. For each of the 80 songs delivered for the final mix, there were up to 120 tracks of a cappella singing and vocalizations. O’Connell said, “I would have the main characters on the first 10 to 12 tracks, and the secondary characters on the next 10 to 12 tracks. Then I’d have scads of background vocals, beatbox, guitar vocalizations, bass vocalizations, and drum vocalizations.”
O’Connell took the principle tracks and panned them around the stage to match where the characters were dancing while they were singing. Next he filled in the background characters vocals. Then he filled the track in with the different instrument vocalizations of guitars, drums, bass, beatbox, and any other vocalized samples that came with the song. He said, “When you see it, you’ll find it hard to believe that there were actually no instruments during any of those songs.”
