I'm so interested to hear the unibomber's thoughts on new movies!
god that's an old reference, I'm old :(
We're all old down here my son. Sick reference bro
It's "Unabomber", not "Unibomber". It stands for "University and Airline Bomber".
Just goes to show that no matter how old the reference, someone on the internet will appear to correct you.
All these years I thought he was called that because he was a unicycle enthusiast.
Crap, one of the spelling/grammar nazis from the Ain't It Cool talkbacks drifted over to my page.
You're all wrong. It's the Underpants bomber. And there's no point in arguing with me because I am the last prophet of the Lord for he spoke to me in a dream, which means I am always right. Look at it this way are you going to believe a grammar Nazi or the chosen one.
Don't worry, the Grammar Nazis were doomed to lose Grammar World War II when they invaded the U.S.S.R. and I predict the Grammar Nazi invasion of the Cinema Snob site will be their comeuppance too.
I wasn't too hopeful about this film based upon the TV ads I've seen but it sounds like it's worth going to. Thanks!
Hey Brad if you're planning on catching up before the end of the year, there's another Christmas horror movie that has Krampus called A Christmas Horror Story. I know there are other DTV Krampus films, but this one had a limited theatrical release and it stars William Shatner as a radio DJ telling three different stories including one where Santa battles Krampus.
That sounds awesome!
A modern horror comedy that isn't bad?
Pfft, you guys must be fucking with us.
So, I didn't read the description before hitting play, and I wasn't paying too close attention to the video itself, so it wasn't until Allison said something that I realized she wasn't Dave.
It is Dave, he's just dressed in drag
Both you and Allison disappoint me a little that you not a fan of The Walking Dead.
I as well get upset when complete strangers don't like the same thing I like.
I'm willing to put aside my differences. I know this show is not for everyone and since he's doesn't like repetitive zombie down to earth zombie cliches I will forgive him for that. I still enjoy watching his reviews and his characters and his crossovers with Allison are still entertaining to watch. Not saying that he has to like everything I like I'm just saying I was a little heartbroken when I heard them saying they're not fans of the show. That doesn't mean I will hate everything they do from now on.
Sick and tired of zombies; they're lame.
Do yo prefer Slugs from Epic or Zombies?
I consider the first three Living Dead films to be my own holy trilogy.
And I think zombies need to go away for awhile. It's been done to death.
I watch because I read the comics, and appreciate Kirkman's writing. I can see how other people wouldn't like it though. Second season nearly lost me.
I like things like iZombie and Walking Dead and as a fan I can say that zombies are overdone. It's the rehash of the same old tired tropes in these past couple of years that really is killing the sub-genre of horror. As much as I love some of it, it really does need to go away so it's not like beating a dead horse.
Thank you Inquisitor. A fellow fan who agrees with both sides of shows like the Walking dead is not a bad show as well as retiring the Zombie genre for a while. I agree that a lot of the zombie cliches are overdone to death probably should come back several years from now with newer ways or at least different ways to make them better. Probably 10 or 15 years would be better.
I loved this movie. One of the best times I had the theater all year. Probably my favorite Christmas movie. The first time Krampus appeared is one of my favorite scenes of the year, did not expect that.
Saw Krampus today super fun movie. Got a trailer for The Witch in front of it that movie looks very creepy.
Whoo-hoo! Adam Scott! My Hometown hero of the cinema!
Rather shallow of me, but... Allison looks so very cute in profile.
Based on other reviews I've seen, this seems like another Cloverfield. By that I mean they tease you with this great looking monster, yet they focus on the damn minions! As a monster fan I don't approve of the "less is more" bullsh*t, if I'm invested in said beast then I want to see it (more The Relic, less Babadook). Such wasted potential, I was hoping the guy whose gave us Trick r Treat (which was more straight up horror-thriller with little comedy) would deliver another badass holiday horrorshow. Personally, I'm not a fan of horror-comedy (minus Gremlins, of course) so I'll red box it or something.
Side note, Kevin Hart is a funny comic, but his movies look terrible.
Maybe see the movie first, then review it. Don't be a Hadley.
Ok, whatever THAT means. . .
I will see it when it's cheap. I heard one person dies in this. ONLY ONE?! I don't need tons of blood & gore for a horror movie to be good, but I do expect a few killings here & there.
I know we only SAW the teacher get killed in Gremlins but I think it's safe to say he wasn't alone (the town Santa, the radio dj, the preacher mailing letters. EVERYBODY was attacked/possibly killed). Again, it's PG-13 (why?!) so I wouldn't expect a lot of gore but you can kill someone off screen, as lame as that is, but at least have a body count.
I hate going here again because so many people love it, but the Babadook also had only one death. . . the dog! Yeah, the only likeable character in that bore fest dies.
Mr. Jones (I don't know you personally, so if you don't mind) I really enjoy your reviews & the Snob is EASILY the funniest character online I've seen, so I really don't want to start another MoS battle with you or your more loyal followers. So apologize for my "Hadley"-ness & I will give it a fair shake (just not this weekend because I'm going to Steel City Con to hopefully ,meet Mr. Tom Savini *sissy fangirl shriek*).
Finally, since you responded to me here let me ask again. I don't have a credit card of any kind so I'm unable to do the whole Patreon thing. Any other way I can help? Let me know, please =)
*I apologize for my "Hadley"-ness. Sorry.
Again, watch the movie. It's not a slasher film. It makes sense that the movie isn't an all out bloodbath. In fact the outcome is far more horrific than just a bunch of dead bodies.
I don't watch movies. I form my opinion of them based on what this site tells me. Isn't that what I pay you for??
It's nothing like Cloverfield. Horror is a broad church and can accommodate lots of different types of movies. The worse thing that happened to horror is when it got dominated by a kind of heavy metal rigid thinking and sub genre of sub genre categorisation. Not that I'm accusing you of that because I understand what your driving at. But when you go on a horror site there's always these dudes describing everything as lame and not even horror because it hasn't ended with everyone dead and isn't "heavy". Krampus is a light hearted horror movie. No one dies in Poltergeist which is the other film it reminded me apart from Gremlins.
Another decent Krampus movie is Rare Exports and though not a Krampus movie Saint/Sint is a pretty good evil Santa flick based on Nordic Christmas traditions.
*(Brad)Thank you. I'll give it a go next week sometime.
*(Lloydfan)Thanks for the levity.
*(Hand of Onan)It's Cloverfield-like because there's the main baddie I WANT to see, but more screen time is given to the lesser beasts. That's all I mean, it's clearly not in the same "giant monster" genre. I apologize if I come off as one of those heavy metal rigid thinking dudes you describe. I do consider Gremlins a horror flick, though it's somewhat light hearted, & I'm not a fan of ghosts (unless they're being busted, that is) but Poltergeist is certainly a horror movie, I agree.
Thank you all for the advice & recommendations.
Fair point. John Carpenter felt Alien was a cop out for exactly the reasons you describe and it was one of the reason he made The Thing. But sometimes the reasons the monster isn't shown are budgetary and technical. The filmmakers may only have the money for a certain number of FX or, especially with practical work the monster may only look cool if shot in a particular way. Other than that I actually agree with you. When the monster is good you want to see it. To me the thing with Cloverfield is that its basically a Godzilla move that doesn't give you enough Godzilla so just ends up as a running and crying movie instead.
By the way I don't think you come across as one of those irksome metal horror fans at all.
Oh hell, dude, I love low budget monster flicks. But I see what you mean, IT: The Terror from Beyond Space had a guy-in-suit monster that, admittedly, doesn't look too scary in the light. Then you have Alien where you see the beast but it's subtle thanks to shadows & good lighting. Carpenter's Thing is one of the greatest monster films ever. Especially since, like Predator, it has not just one grand reveal but several throughout the film.
I was trying to be nice to Cloverfield as not to offend anyone, but I couldn't agree more with you about it. Much like the new Godzilla, if the characters were tolerable I wouldn't mind the lack of monsters in a monster movie.
Thanks for not thinking me a douche. I try not to be, believe it or not, but it's quite a chore . Thanks again, Mr. Hand! =)
So...is Brad a Merle fan?
I remember from some-when previously that he did mention liking Shane.....
"The ending is sorta predictable, but not in the way you'd expect."
That's our Sarah.
As far as Adam Scott horror movies go, is this better than Hellraiser 4? ;)
It seems like the ending could be interpreted in a couple different ways. Guess it's not too surprising you guys went for the more pessimistic version though.
Yeah, I didn't even think of the "Nightmare World" interpretation of that ending until I watched it. I just thought SPOILERS that the snowglobe was how Krampus was spying on everyone.
*"Watched it" should be Watched this review
I'm surprised that Brad didn't check out The Letters. It is, after all, a religious movie (a biopic about Mother Teresa).
Will there be a midnight screening for Chi-Raq?
The movie was great but the ending was kind of a flop, just in my opinion. Super cool effects though, especially with the puppetry. It reminded me a lot (like said in the video) of 80s horror movies. Just really swell.
Wait a minute you watched Santa and the Ice Cream Bunny for fun? Please tell me you watched the Rifftrax. There is no way in hell this movie can be watched casualy without at least one casualty. Then again that would explain the missing Dave. At least he can have fun in Pirates World while we are still stuck here with this abobination of a movie.
