Great to see a midnight screening with these two. Hope this will happen again.
Sweet new midnight scree... oh Douchebag Walker. n/m
How dare you insult Doug Walker I only have little to say to this terrible comment https://youtu.be/Kowch8AQdxQ
I sincerely hope you are trollin dude. If not please get to a hospital asap, you likely have severe head trauma.
As much as I loved the Goosebumps books as a kid, I can't say they were ever really scary, and what you guys said about the film is pretty much what I was expecting it to be...
I feel Doug has a problem with talking over other people. I notice that a lot with his sibling rivalry episodes.
Goosebumps was probably my first exposure to horror novels. Though they did have dark endings from time to time.
Definitely! Some of them were really creepy.
If you were a kid in the '90s, Goosebumps was like a drug: the only fix to the addiction was buying the next book in the series at some book fair.
It was the works of R.L. Stine and the series Scary Stories to Tell in the Dark that got me hooked on horror. A few years back I bought a book that holds all 3 volumes, and I still can't believe that schools used to allow just any kid to check those books out at the library back in the day: those illustrations are fucked up (but cool).
I showed my wife, who grew up in China, the Scary Stories series and she wouldn't believe me when I told her every elementary school in the U.S. carried those books in the library. Pretty unreal.
So could Brad and Rob really not find a way to ditch Doug? That sucks.
Doug Walker is a genius, this forum should be thankful he said his eloquent and sophisticated opinion of this movie
I am unsure if you are joking or sincere with all this Doug defending. This is the internet afterall.
If you are serious however, you should probably think through your actions before you make a Doug shrine, unless you already did.
The guys really full of himself. His entire Schick got old years ago. All he does is yell at the camera and pepper memes in. And he thinks just because he has a fan base of autistic retards online that want to suck him off it makes him a comedic genius?
Great review by the way. :)
Heck, yeah! And, for the pleasure of everyone in the comments section, here is an incredibly cheesy rap made for the movie. I burst out laughing every time Slappy sings. https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=heBMsH0NkXg
Sorry, I tried watching this video but there was this annoying high pitched squeal during most of it. Might have been coming from that thing in the front with Brad.
Oh cool, a midnight showing of Goosebumps with...wait, Doug? That's okay, I don't need to watch this then. I can just go see the movie myself to find out how good or bad the movie is. I hate that Doug has to stick himself in James & Mike Plays videos from time to time, but seeing him in a Midnight Screening video kind of makes me not want to watch this and afraid that I am going to see a lot more of him in future Midnight Screenings episodes.
You don't understand Doug Walker's genius, I would be grateful if I can do a review with him
What a genius. He brought back that shitty Demo Reel show under the title Nostalgia Critic. Don't worry, I'm sure you can eventually be on Wasted $90k Hotshot to jerk Doug off in person.
No, Doug is an idiot and a douche. He is the one threatening Brad with blackmail if he ever left the TGWTG community. He is a sorry excuse of a critic.
Blackmail? Where on Earth did you get that from?
Fellow Cinema Snob fans, has anyone else noticed something kind of weird? The videos for the third part of the Taco Bell breakfast and the Halloween burger have been made public on YouTube, but not on the site. Do you think it's a mistake, or just a minor glitch? Sorry if I'm being annoying. Have a wonderful day!
Well it's not that weird now since you informed everyone that the videos are on youtube :)
Doug would have liked a Phil Lord and Chris Miller's Goosebump movie, though I would like a Laika's Goosebump movie, like Coraline
But this is such a fluffy cgi mess typical of Sony movies
I was too young when these books were big so I don't know much about the series, but Chad Rocco's top 10 Goosebumps intrigued me https://youtu.be/CESnywSDVbY I would be interested with his opinion
just stick with the Fox Kids show instead and/or Are You Afraid Of The Dark?, or Tales From The Crypt, or In The Mouth Of Madness.
Oh, hey, Doug and Rob!
Unlike some in the comments, I don't mind them (and try not to let the bad experiences of others affect how I percieve them), though I will admit I stopped watching the critic minisodes a while ago. I love hearing unfiltered thoughts on films, whether it's Allison and Phelan, Rob and Doug, Spoony's hour-long rants, etc, and they have a lot of energy and things to say. I will say, I wasn't expecting this to happen so soon after Allison and Phelan in town - is there something going on in Springfield, like a con or something?
Yeesh-I'm not the biggest fan of Doug and Rob and I get not a lot of great things have happened with them recently, but can people stop throwing a huge tantrum every single time Brad decides to make a video with them? Let them have fun together, for the love of Christ. I don't even know why I look at comments on certain crossover videos in general because most of it is 'how DARE you enjoy doing videos with your friends and make videos I'm not obligated to watch but I'm still gonna bitch about them anyway!!!'
Stamper on an episode of SleepyCast brought up the fact that some people in comments doing things like that are in effect like children threatening to run away from home. "I'm gonna do it! I'm really gonna do it!"
Now that's an extremely apt analogy ....
And eventually they follow through on those promises, and for the same reason; they grew up <_<
Let me get this strait. Are you equating growing up, wanting to start a life of your own and separating from your guardian to a child throwing a tantrum? If so, life is going to hit you like a truck in a shorter time than you think...
How DARE people have a negative opinion on a man, who has been involved with some really shitty things, that I don't agree with!
When the fuck did I say you had to like him? I myself don't. All I fucking said was to stop throwing a hissy fit every time Brad wants to do videos with his friends. Fucking shit-you prove my point exactly.
I know what you mean; it's really getting fucking OLD.... I couldn't give two shits about who Brad chooses to hang with. I'm just happy there's been practically a new vid posted every day for me to watch. That, plus my big ol' cup of coffee and my cat, makes for a great morning :)
You know what's awesome about selective media? You don't have to watch what you don't want to watch, and as an added awesome bonus, you are not required to comment on the thing you don't want to watch.
Really.....so tired of all the whiny butt-hurt.... just fucking grow-up.
It just wouldn't be an internet site if people weren't bitching and whining and crying about how the free entertainment they are under no obligation to watch deviates slightly from their own idea of the status quo.
Or the people bitching and whining and crying about people bitching and whining and crying. And then there's always that real scummy bunch bitching whining and crying about the people bitching and whining and crying about the people bitching and whining and crying. Of course nothing is worse than the people bitching whining and crying about people bitching whining and crying about people bitching whining and crying about people bitching whining and crying!
The internet will always be Bitching- Whining-and-Crying-ception. It's just a matter of who can monetize it, or those who just like to do it for free :)
maybe they should just make a horror anthology movie with segments written by Stephen King, RL Stine, & Clive Barker.
You called, Brad?
Please don't ever invite Doug for another Midnight Screening. Rob's fine but Doug constantly interrupts Brad and can't keep his fucking trap shut for 2 seconds. I watch this Screening for BRAD'S OPINIONS NOT DOUG'S.
NO ADD MORE DOUG WALKER, I hope Brad does that just to piss you off
Fuck the siblings, seriously fuck them.
Don't these douchebags have anything better to do other than invade the only decent/worthwhile thing in Channel Awesome? Or wait,no.
NO FUCK ALL THE BITCH COMMENTORS ON THIS FORUMS BITCHING AT THE WALKER BROS
Fuck off. People can talk shit about Doug "Piano Teeth" Walker and his puppet master brother all they want. Their shtick hasn't been funny since 2008, because we're not 12 years old anymore.
Jesus fuck are you just as annoyingly stupid, if not more, than that Rachel J moron on Doug's video comments.
Dude, Rob's cool. In fact, I'm pretty sure Brad gets along better with Rob than he does with Doug, judging from those behind-the-scenes vids of their crossovers.
So was it better than War Room?
I saw the trailer for this movie in front of The Martian, and thinking that while it doesn't look good, it at least didn't make me cringe like the trailer for Scouts Guide to the Zombie Apocalypse did, which I saw in front of Black Mass.
From what Doug, Rob and Brad have to say about it, it seems this movie could have been at least enjoyable if it was more self-aware or over-the-top.
Nice to see Doug and Rob Walker on a Snob video. Also looking forward to Brad's snarky replies to the people ordering him not to allow his own friends in his videos.
I always wondered if Doug Walker can do the duck walk?
I don't know why everybody's complaining about Brad's crossover guests.
I hope his next Midnight Screenings is with Irate Gamer.
Irate Gamer would have at least been funny.
It would be even better if he brought on Spoony, who ignores talking about the movie in order to call people cowards for not rolling 3d6-in-order.
I don't mind Doug or Rob, I like them they seem decent or fun enough to hang out with or talk about movies with. I know some bad things happened with them and other (former) CA content providers, but... I dunno. Bad things are pretty much always going to happen between "bosses" and the "employees." I know that's not the kind of dynamic we thought CA had with the content providers but, at the end of the day, it's their business and they want it ran a certain way.
I dunno... It was crummy and sad, but people have moved on and are making their way in other manners.
Regardless, Doug and Rob are funny and entertain (though I think I like Rob a touch more) and I like hearing their thoughts on movies and with Brad makes it more interesting. I was actually pretty excited to see this.
Because shitty things happen with businesses all the time we should just forget all the shit Channel Awesome pulled? Well if we are just complacent to let things go to he'll I suppose that makes sense. I cannot wait to cast my vote for Trump since shitty things happen in politics all the time.
Did you just compare the Walker Brothers to a rapist who advocates ethnic cleansing? Is that a subdivision of Godwin?
That's the thing, though. Doug is just a person who obviously made some mistakes, but he shouldn't be hated for making those mistakes. Personally, I just feel bad for everyone involved in this situation. If I was to dislike anyone, though, it would be Mike Michaud. He acted horribly towards Allison and Phelan. Plus, he had a direct role in the firing of Holly by advising them to fire her after her surgery. Overall, I hope CA can become what it once was, but without the reviewing community to sustain it, what's the point in watching the reviews (besides the really good reviewers like Brad, Linkara, JO, and Phelous)?
I too like Rob better. Aside from his reviews of Avatar the Last Airbender and the Disney Afternoon, Doug's work isn't as interesting as it was before his "retirement".
Honestly, aside from Spoony, I didn't really like anybody who left Channel Awesome. Really, aside from Brad and Linkara, I like SFDebris and Chris Stuckmann more than any of the original producers.
BTW Brad, did you ever watch Nickelodeon's Are You Afraid of the Dark? I think it did what Goosebumps tried to do, but better. Some episodes were forgettable (as most kids live-action TV is) but some were legitimately scary. It helps having some of those involved with The Twilight Zone as writers.
I grew up in the 80s and I didn't really read kids fiction or watch kids horror except maybe Poltergeist. One of the main points of horror to me as a kid was that I wasn't supposed to watching it even though a lot of it was plainly aimed at kids.. To me the perfect kids horror movies was stuff like Night of the Creeps and the remake of the Blob, because they were sort of juvenile horror-lite with gore F/X, humorous, and killed people off at the same time.
Hell yes! That "Blob" remake is the hat trick of 80s unholy trinity of remakes (after John Carpenter's "The Thing" & David Cronenberg's "The Fly", of course). It introduced us to Shawnee Smith, had great comedic bits throughout, which I usually hate in non comedies (most Marvel movies), & best of all we actually saw a kid get killed! So yeah, that's a hell of a good film =)
The crossover review we've all been waiting for!
i'd like to see a Schwartz/Gammell book come to life as a movie and have my mind blown apart.
This just feels so awkward with the super loud forced laughter. Like you're with that annoying sibling of a friend that had to come along and won't take the hint that no one wants him to be there.
Yes, becos I'm sure Brad hates those two and is only doing this video with them out of contractual obligation.
I like the Brothers Walker. Glad to see them here.
As for Goosebumps -- I'm with you guys. 'm, like, two or three years older than Brad. That shit came after my time. I remember my little sister reading those books, while I was reading Stephen King.
Brad Walker has joined the brotherhood. I can only imagine the sleepover and pillow fights that followed.
I can't stand the reviews that have Phelous and Lupa in them because their reviewer personalities are unbearable, but at least they're usually fine in the midnight screenings when they don't do the annoying voices and stupid faces every second. These two, on the other hand, my god. Shut up.
Agree on Doug, Phelous, and Lupa, but I honestly like Rob. He has interesting things to say, and unlike his brother lately, he knows what he's talking about.
I agree that Rob has interesting things to say, and ironically, he's probably one of the people on CA whose entertainment tastes are closest to my own, but dear god, does he come off as a pretentious douche-bag half the time. Let's gather 'round and listen to Bobby Walker explain to us why his nerd-rage is a special rage based on artistic merit, but anyone who disagrees with him is just a regular, nit-picking nerd.
As far as the actual review goes -- I always thought that the books were targeted towards 3rd-5th graders, so I think all three of them would have been outside of the target age range by the time they started getting popular. The movie is obviously banking on audience nostalgia to help carry the plot, and I have to wonder if it plays differently to the millennials that it's targeted to.
I know it's none of my business, but I can't get over the way they treated Allison and probably many others. I know Doug wasn't the one initiating it, but I'm sorry, he's a grown man and as responsible for what happened as the others. I haven't watched a video with them since and I can't now.
And for the record, I liked them both before. But to the people who said "well something bad happened, everyone moved on", you don't know that, being treated that way affects people and it was a shitty thing to do, I won't forget that anytime soon.
In terms of Allison's case, I can't really feel that much sympathy for her, considering her under-handed ways in getting Noah Antwiler fired from from Channel Awesome just because "she didn't like him".
Just to clarify, I don't have anything against her though and yes, what the Walker brothers and Michaud did to her was absolutely awful. I just find it apt that the person who used the Channel Awesome higher ups to get someone fired, finds herself being burned by the exact same people.
And let's not even start about Lord-Kat's infamous, slur-filled pod-cast.
Not that I want to get into this with anyone, but she did not get Spoony fired. He wanted to leave anyways. He felt like the site wasn't doing anything for him. I doubt Spoony would cover for Lupa. I say this as someone who doesn't really watch either of their videos, so doesn't have anything against either of them.
Michaud acts horribly to anyone that interferes or inhibits his plans for Channel Awesome. It just seems to me, that Doug and Rob, don't have much say with him. I don't know, but that's how it comes off. It seems like he's one of those guys who just takes thing to the extreme (like Doug might have mentioned how he disliked reviewers who put too many ads in their reviews, so Michaud then proceeds to verbally abuse those people so they won't do that anymore).
Is Rob the reason Dave isn't here? I mean, they only need one guy like that...
Now that you bring it up, I'd kinda like to see a Midnight Screening with just Dave and Rob.
I'm still waiting for an epic three hour midnight screening with Spoony. Doing this sitting in a car in the dead of winter would add to the hilarity.
Spoony's movie reviews are great. It's too bad he rarely posts any
Fuck Doug and Rob. They're the reason(s) Phelous and Obscurus Lupa left TGWTG.
Really? I thought it was Mike Michaud that was the reason.
I never read Goosebumps and seeing the trailers makes me very glad I didn't. Fuck R.L. Stine and this movie.
Dammit, Brad! How dare you bring two other popular reviewers who happen to be your friends/people you work with to see a movie that has nostalgic significance?
And Doug's voice is a few decibels higher than anyone else in the car. That makes him worse than Hitler. And that, Mr. Jones, must make you Ilsa She Wolf of the S.S.
Let's face it: Midnight Screenings are ruined!
All I know is Rob seemed totally DTF
You're right, man. Only positive feedback is important. That Man of Steel review? Completely unnecessary.
And what's with all the SJW bullshit and how come you get rid of all the J named reviewers. And why do you hate Jesus, is it because his name begins with J?
Jesus still reviews for the site. He's with Dave at every screening.
I'll stick with real child monster hunter films, like The Monster Squad, thank you very much
I don't mind the Walker brothers when they're not championing some political social cause, but I don't think Doug has any ground to stand on when it comes to not being funny, and for the record I always hated Phallus and Obscurous Derp face but instead of bitching that Brad is doing a video with them I simply don't watch and don't comment and holding a grudge against someone you don't know for something they may have done to someone you also don't know is insane no ones forcing you to watch him
No, you just bring them up for no reason beyond a quick insult.
That's much better.
Well of course the Goosebumps books weren't going to scare you if you were the type of kid who regularly read/watched more adult horror. If you weren't some of them could actually be pretty scary, or at least creepy. The earlier ones usually tended to be better.
The TV show was mainly just an inferior version of Are You Afraid of the Dark? though.
I never read/watched any adult horror as a kid, and I still thought the books were lame. I wasn't even allowed to watch Are You Afraid of the Dark.
Why wasn't it longer ): but it was awesome i loved this more please
Goosebumps i enjoyed reading the books and watching the show i didn't find it scary back then either because of the fact i watched other real scary things. Are you afraid of the dark has good not scary but haunting episodes the kid that froze to death in the forest the witch one and other ones really did leave a lasting impression of it.
There was one book not goosebumps but another book he wrote R.L about a bug man that kinda left me creeped out because it felt rape-y
This movie from the trailer looked not good
Oh! crimson peak for the family is a good idea =D
I never thought Brad, Doug, or Rob would have been into Goosebumps, they seemed like they would have been too old for it when it was popular. I also have to say I watched the Beatlejuice cartoon, but only because it was on, much like Captain Planet. I enjoyed the Goosebumps books, but the show was just too hooky for my liking. I think I had one of the episodes on tape when I was like 7 or 8, I wish I still had it, I remember the acting was god awful haha.
Doug and Rob are just annoying assholes who just invite themselves to every member of Channel Awesome's door step to squeeze some face time out of them for their own shitty channel.
Doug's fucking forced laugh and thousand eye rape stare, with his ghoulish brother encouraging him to keep things up.
I dont want to ever see these scumbags on your channel again, Brad. They were failed business partners, not friends.
Its funny seeing Doug there after he was just on a video with James Rolfe(AVGN). I would love to see a collab video with Brad and James on old horror video games.
I want to see the Nerd and Zalman play Dr Jekyll and Mr. Hyde with the rolling rocker.
80's Dan should bring over Rollerblade Racer for the Nerd to play.
It's totally 80's!!!
Wow. So much hate on poor Doug.
I grew up in the 80s too, so Goosebumps isn't my thing. I agree that some 80s stuff seemed to be scarier, or have more stakes, than later generation stuff. It's like scary movies for kids who grew up trick or treating at the mall, I guess.
I enjoyed the video, hope you guys do more together!
I wish Irving was there instead of them.
We all wish Irving was in every episode, of course. But Irving is a special treat, like double-chocolate triple-layer cheesecake. Nobody could handle that much Irving. It's best on rare occasions, when you gorge as much as you can, and then swear you'll never do it again, but sure enough, before long you are craving that sweet, sweet Irving once again.
Yes, if double-chocolate triple-layer cheesecake were off-color ;)
So.... basically like if the white chocolate cheesecake was talking smack about the dark chocolate cheesecake & milk chocolate cheesecake? :D
Are we still mad at the Walkers for the Lupa thing? Get over it.
Anyway this was a fun movie. Not GREAT, but it wasn't even trying to be. Way funnier than I was expecting. Although, it would have been nice to get some better monsters showcased. They went with the snowman and werewolf?
I'm not sure if the Walker's have seen Terminator 2, so I can't trust their opinion on any movie things ever.
A review with Doug and Rob?? :O
That's cool, I'll watch it. Because, you know, I don't hate on people just because they may have made some questionable business decisions in their past, or because I don't enjoy their work, or because of the pitch of their voice. And I also don't insult them, considering they're just providing us with FREE entertainment, and I don't chastise Brad for hanging out with people he clearly likes spending time with.
That said, I do think all three of them are being a bit harsh on Goosebumps (the book series, not the movie). Saying that it's not good or not scary is not really true. It IS scary (or at least creepy) to a kid who just started getting into horror which is who they were made for. If it wasn't scary to kids, do you think it would've ever become as popular as it did? If you were already reading Stephen King and other true horror novels, of course you weren't going to like it.
I loved the books as a kid. They weren't super-scary or anything, but enough to creep my young mind out. I admit that the TV show was super cheesy, I even knew that when I was a kid, but I didn't care. It was the type of spooky stories I liked in that transitional phase.
I haven't seen the movie, but from what I saw in the trailer, it seems way too comedy focused. Goosebumps may not have been meant to be truly scary, but it certainly wasn't supposed to be funny. Instead of making a movie that is kinda creepy like the books, it seems like they just made Jumanji 2. Heck, even Jumanji was scarier than this (I loved that movie as a kid too). I agree that they should've either made it actually scary or make it a clever parody (although that would have been disrespectful to the source material). As it is, it seems to be somewhere in between the two, which makes me not want to see it.
I just want to know why they got dressed up as Mario and Luigi and Santa Christ.
Probably just for fun. What, 3 straight dudes can't dress up as fictional characters and go to the park and fool around? Is that the PC society we live in now? Geez, what kind of world is this when 3 perfectly hetero adult bros can't just have fun pretending and having a gay old time.
There making a god not dead 2 I am no joking
I read the books as a kid. I watched Are you Afraid of the Dark more than I watched Goosebumps. I do like the series. I want to see this movie, but Crimson Peak comes first. Speaking of which, I am really surprised that Goosebumps is getting slightly better reviews than Crimson Peak. I did not see that happening in a million years. Especially since I thought Goosebumps was going to be terrible. Then again, I don't really care which one has better reviews. I want to see Crimson Peak. It's just unexpected.
Where can I find footage of that abandoned Disney waterpark? I found a few vids but none of them have music playing.
This is the one I watched years ago, pretty sure it had music playing https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=Q4JwgmPEIDQ
It sounds like the music isn't coming from the old attractions so its likely that there is an active park next door.
So did Brad like it? I am not forcing myself to watch this Midnight screening for obvious reasons...poor lighting...and fear that it might just be a game show...
Cripes. I can't believe people are so this, seriously, upset over the Lupa thing. Not only that crappy things happen in businesses all of the time (seriously, do you think your own bosses treat everyone nicely, perfectly and equally). that indications are that Doug and Rob had little to nothing to do with it, but that Lupa and Phelous are over it, have moved on, and are still providing content out there on their own website/channel.
I wonder if people would have been this upset if Lupa wasn't a half-way attractive woman, what if it had been Diamanda Hagan or something.
Don't get me wrong, I adore Lupa but she's moved on and is doing her own thing now. Let it go, guys. Sheesh.
You don't have to like Doug and Rob and watch their videos or whatever but stop acting like they're the freaking Second Coming of Lucifer or something just because they show up on a video with friends/co-workers. Move on.
Even if they had some involvement with what happened with Lupa, they still have the right to run their channel however they want. I say again, shady, crummy, stuff happens with businesses all of the time and you can hardly get upset every time it happens because then you'll find yourself being against pretty much every business out there.
Let. It. Go.
Don't get mad about anything because stuff happens. Who cares, right? Way to kiss ass, buddy.
I don't have a problem with Doug or Rob, and I really tried to watch this. Really. But it was like watching an episode of the View.
My favorite Goosebumps book (when I was a kid; I don't know if it would hold up now) was dark as fuck. It was the one with the piano teacher. It turned out that over the course of the lessons he was imbuing his students' hands with supernatural piano-playing ability, and then when they were sufficiently "charged," he would murder the students, cut off their hands, and set the hands to play piano for him forever. We never saw him kill anyone "on-screen," but there were at least half a dozen practice rooms in the piano school occupied by the disembodied, eternally-playing hands of murdered children.
Just, you know, as a counterpoint to the claim that death was never a real threat in the Goosebumps books.
