Great reviews! I've always been meaning to ask you, Brad. What Is it about horror, dark crime and exploitation movies that attracted you to them and keeps you coming back to them. I ask purely out of curiosity but not in a mean way. Just wanted to hear your opinion. I'm the kind of guy who grew up on adventure and sci-fi movies but haven't really seen any horror/slasher/exploitation films and wonder what their appeal is
I have seen the final sign of the Armageddon and it is "Saving Chrstmas" and Season's Greetings Kirk Cameron. November 14 is the final day Bro
Can't wait until Brad Discovers Inherent Vice
I'm still waiting for him to see Spielberg's Tintin.
And ive got first dips. I called it in 2011. And I have a small penis, therefore I have even more right!
I think Nightcrawler will be right up his alley.
But Dave, Chris Terrio wrote Batman V Superman. Give it a chance. Writing off a movie isn't entirely fair. Especially when the last movie is a mixed bag rather than 100 percent derided. But hey, different folks, different strokes.
But, David S. Goyer! Dollman vs. Demonic Toys! The Crow: City of Angels? Nick Fury: Agents of Shield? Ghost Rider: Spirit of Vengeance? Are these quality scripts? Are these quality films? Are these films even enjoyable?
His credits were bumped to story, as they were with the Nolan Batman films, and the internet sure loves the fuck out of those movies. I liked Man of Steel, but I agree some of the dialogue was dodgy. The script for Batman V Superman was rewritten by the man who wrote Argo. And Argo had a good script. It's good to be optimistic.:D
But yeah, David S Goyer does certainly suck, but he has been apart of movies people enjoyed as well. He's more of an ideas guy.
I can't believe blip actually worked on the first try!!!
Saw Gone Girl last night and I agree it was really good. I like to think of it as a modern day Hitchcock thriller with twists and turns that come at you where you least expect it. I'm not sure where I would rank it on my 10 favorite movies of 2014 especially with such easy titles to rank as The LEGO Movie, The Grand Budapest Hotel, Captain America: The Winter Soldier, and some of the blockbusters I saw this summer!
how spoiler heavy is the gone girl review?
how spoiler heavy is the gone girl review
Very. The first minute or so is spoiler free where they say what they thought overall, but the rest of the review spoils the entire plot including the ending.
Very right out of the gate. Go see the movie trust me
Gone Girl is almost the best movie I've seen all year, and I've seen almost everything to get a wide theatrical release.
The best movie I have seen this year, though, overall, is Blue Ruin. Watched it on Netflix. It's streaming. I strongly recommend it.
Anyway, Gone Girl is the first really impressive movie of early Oscar Season (except maybe The Drop). I hope it gets nominated for best picture, and in fact, would support the idea of Tyler Perry getting a nomination, as well. Fuck it. Give Tyler Perry an Oscar.
And record Brian and Dave's reaction.
Haven't watched the videos yet but erm... seeing that still shot for the "Gone Girl" video... DAVE, YOU SCARY!
Hey, "great minds" I guess :p
You know what, just thinking about it, I would love to see the Brad Jones version of GONE GIRL. It would have Brad as the Ben Affleck part, Jillian as the Rosamund Pike part, Carrie Jo Stucki as the part of Ben Affleck (or in this case Brad's) sister part, Dave as the Tyler Perry role, Buford as Neil Patrick Harris' part, Jillian and Brian as the main two cops played by Kim Dickens and Patrick Fugit, and finally, Jake could play the part of Missi Pyle's reality TV character.

The fact that Brad is not wearing his white-castle hat this time, was more surprising than any moment in Anabelle.
The Islamic State does not approve of this video, prepare to be beheaded.
You can go jihad on my ass anytime.....
I just want to say Brad that whenever I see these pop up on the site I always get really happy and excited. Listening to you guys ramble about movies always brightens up my day...even though it's night...shit.
OMG Brad, spoilers for The Tenant, The Exorcist AND Berenstain Bears!!!
Oh man, I'll feel your pain. I live on a military base in the Pacific, and the movies that are sent here are ALL the Christian propaganda films. We got God's Not Dead, Heaven is Totes Real, etc... because the ONE person in the army that evidently decides what movies get sent to Kwaj is probably crazy religious person.
I just hope The Identical gets sent here.
I feel like a derp because my co-worker asked me to go see the Annabelle pre-screening Thursday night when I could have seen Gone Girl instead. And because I've worked every night since I won't get around to see it until Monday at the earliest. That being said, I totally agree with basically everything Brad and Brian said. I'm super tired of lame horror movies like this, so I don't recommend it in any capacity, just stay home and watch The Conjuring instead.
What if "Saving Christmas" was somehow the cultural text that turned Doubtin' Dave into a Christian? Evangelical, at that.
As someone who was raised on Tyler Perry's shows, movies and whatnot (pray for my soul... sigh my parents adore him and I respect his hard life but his directing makes my eyes bleed and I want to punch most of his characters in the face) I can safely say Gone Girl is his best role ever and if he wins an Oscar I will cheer because it could mean he could use the talents he's been hiding on better movies and stop fucking making those awful movies.
I loved Gone Girl, I think so far it's in my top five along with Walk Among The Tombstones, The Lego Movie, Captain America 2/Guardians of the Galaxy and Snowpiercer. I loved the book and I adored the movie and it was a great birthday present!
He could produce another great film, like Precious. Or it could fund his next Madea movie. So it's a mixed bag, really. I don't get the impression that things he does personally really mean much more to him than a way to make money and get more black actors and crew members in the business - which is great, really, kudos to him for that - except they're being wasted on shit like Temptation or Single Moms Club.
Tyler Perry's repertoire is balls, but his only good movie is "The Family That Preys". And he picks great actors and actresses.
Fun stuff as ever.
This is really unrelated but now I'm curious about it. Directed at Brad, I was rewatching the Smurfs 2 review and you mention liking the Island. Which do you prefer, it or Clonus? Assuming you've seen it anyway but you seem like you would have.
Batman v. Superman will probably suck, but I think it will still be way better than "Man of Steel," because at least Metropolis won't get destroyed because of Batman fighting Superman. Unless Superman destroys it anyway.
Yep! I knew without James Wan it would be sub par. Eh, whatever. Horror is just about dead anyway.
Hey Brian, you lose weight or just shave? Either way you look good. . . for a no good rotten slaver!
Also, I don't think I weighed in on your recent marriage so, congrats!
Speaking of happiness, I just learned that Ryan Reynolds & Blake Lively are expecting. . . . .
Wow! Such a wealth of talent between those two, I'm sure another bright star is on the way!
Mr. SamJ, it's not my intention to offend, but if you don't enjoy the first action packed Superman movie we've EVER gotten, you still have Superman 1-4, & that AWESOME one where Superman was a depressing emo stalker, deadbeat dad wearing Bizarro's costume for some reason that "fought" Lex Luthor (again) who, instead of using his exo-suit finally, just uses kryptonite. . . again! I'll grant you Man of Steel is by no means perfect & pissed me off at points, but after leaving the bullshit known as Iron Man 3 livid with piss & vinegar all I asked of Mr. Snyder is his Superman have one f*cking action scene. . . he delivered as far as I'm concerned. Then again I'm not one of those people that bitch & moan about property damage, or demand realism in a movie, You don't like MOS? Fine, the two Richard Donner & those other three are available. Why do I own that "crappy & nostalgic" Tim Burton Batman (as well as the other 3)? Cause I'm not terribly impressed with The Dark Knight, to each his/her own. As far as Batman vs. Superman goes, I wish there was another villain other than f*cking Luthor but after seeing Affleck in a comic accurate bat suit for once, & then the Bat mobile back to what a "Bat mobile" looks like. . . . . . I can't wait!
Uh, by your logic then, "you don't like Iron Man 3? fine, the other two movies are available!" Also a lot of action does not mean it's a good movie. And it wasn't simply property damage that people criticized it for. It was more the "Superman just flew Zod into a working gas station and blew it up like a missile, and later probably killed every bit as much people as Zod did." That's kinda worse than "oh Superman acted emo in something." Just because there's other movies, doesn't mean that something is above criticism. Amazing Spider-Man 2 wasn't above criticism just because Spider-Man 3 wasn't very good, and Peter was an Emo punk, or because Raimi's Spider-Man 2 was good.
Uhhhhh, Tom? Iron Man 2 sucked as well. Iron Man was pretty good minus the "comedy". Also, I admitted MOS had things that ticked me off, all comic films have SOMETHING that does, sadly. But when there's no iconic spit curl, lack of Jimmy Olsen (if they insisted on playing the gender bender game, then they should've switched Amy Adams & the girl who was "Jenny" Olsen), killing off Pa Kent again, let alone by a f*cking tornado, & other minor comic related issues (that nobody else had problems with) yet has an abundance of action packed fight scenes, forgive me for not giving a shit about the realistic consequences. "That's not how Superman acts, how dare you change him so much! Blah, blah, blah". That's how I reacted to Nolan's bat villains but everyone tells me shut up, so change is good. . . as long as our Lord & Savior of comic book films does it? Well Zack Snyder may not be St. Nolan but his Superman flick entertained me more than the almighty "Dark Knight" & I'm a huge Batman fan. Who isn't?
As for the Spidey flicks go, I like the 1st 2 (though I still don't understand what's so damn great about 2 other than Doc Ock), while 3 is a guilty pleasure at best. "Amazing", after a friend told me it was based more on the "Ultimate" comics, was easier for me to tolerate, but without Garfield & Stone it's mostly "eh, whatever". I put off seeing Amazing 2 for soooooooooooooooo long because of all the negativity, finally I saw it & I wish I hadn't. . . . . .
@AlsoAngryJake I think if you're allowed to talk shit about Amazing 2, and Iron Man 2 and 3, SamJ is allowed to talk shit about Man of Steel, a movie that only got mediocre reviews at best (IM2 & 3 got far better reviews overall). Aside from that, anyone's allowed to talk shit about anything, it doesn't matter who liked it or not, or if it was "Action Packed," which yeah, doesn't make it good. By that logic, Transformers 2 was the best film of 2009.
It 2 am? I'm about to turn this dump, into the birthplace of a new era of entertainment. You're telling me it's 2 am. *SLAM!* PLAY THE PIANO!!!
Let's get things nice & sparkling clear. By SUPERMAN MOVIE STANDARDS, yes, I think MOS is good. I love the original Richard Donner entry, but damn it's boring. Now for the time period & it being one of the first super hero films I'll forgive it. Superman 2 was a fine sequel & a lot of fun, but he kills a de-powered Zod with a smile on his face. . . but yeah, MOS has no excuse for such blasphemy? 3 was a dredge with the highlight being Clark fighting himself, oddly enough while wearing Bizarro's outfit. 4 is a wtf experience, as Nostalgia Critic & Linkara may testify. Now I have no knowledge of why 3 & 4 didn't up the ante with the super villains, budget problems? Don't know. But Returns surely had the money to add an additional cgi villain that would guarantee a few fights. Parasite, Metallo, anybody?! Nope, just Lex, again. No exo-suit or anything. The point of this rant is MOS blew me away by not being the latest boring, no super villain having entry in the Superman franchise. Don't like it? Whatever, it's cool.
*Also, not being a Transformers fan I wouldn't know if they're good or not, but I got your point.
Superman II was a good movie = YOU NOW HAVE TO LIKE IT EVERYIME SUPERMAN KILLS SOMEONE, DESPITE BAD WRITING.
I agree with Milson. Better that Superman just drop a helpless Zod into an icy abyss of his fortress to save 1 Lois Lane then share a laugh, rather than struggling, pleading with a fully powered Zod in order to save a family of 3. Clearly, you know nothing about super hero ethics, jerk!
@Jonesin Oh you mean that family that had plenty of room to move out of the way; or that if Superman was going to kill Zod, he probably should have done it before the millions of people were killed, rather than the 3 with an escape route. Yeah, really good writing there in that film.
Annabelle sucked. boring as hell. none of the scares were effective. stole nearly EVERYTHING from Rosemary's Baby and some from Paranormal Activity. I didn't even consider it a movie, because it was so goddamn unoriginal I couldn't get invested with the poorly written and acted film. Besides, that Husband was a complete fucking idiot. Annabelle had literally nothing to do with the movie until the last 15 minutes. they should have just called the movie "Rosemary's Barbie".
Whoa! I just finished watching MOS again & the populous is right! Such writing! Sorry "Jonesen" but we're wrong, so I guess now I'll sell my copy of MOS & only have the other, better written ones. While I'm at it, I suppose I'll throw out Daredevil, the Punishers, & all my Batman movies except the Nolan trilogy. Oh wait, I actually enjoy "Begins" & "DKR". . . oh well, Dark Knight is the BEST one, & at the end of the day isn't that all that matters? That YOUR movie collection have only what the majority likes & to hell with what YOU find entertaining? Forgive us everybody! We were so blinded by OUR opinions that we never considered we were wrong! Because, you know, opinions are pointless if you aren't in the right.
Seriously, I'm done adding to this asinine bickering. I apologize & concede, let's be done with this. . . . . . please.
When you can't defend your position anymore, just resort to childish sarcasm, that'll surely help your case.
Don't forget, you're the one who started this whole debate by suggesting Man of Steel was good because it had 'splosions in it. And if you can be loud and abrasive in your opinions, then people are allowed to respond.
You and "Jonesin for Brad" are the same person, I can see your IP address. Don't be that guy :P
You may regret that reviewer dibs, Dave. I just saw the trailer for Saving Christmas. Oh boy.
And that Hillsong group Brad saw a trailer for? Yeah, er, they're named after an Australian Pentecostal church group, and its leader is being charged with raping little boys, and his son blamed the victim for "tempting" the guy. Yeah, you just can't escape the motherfuckers in this business...
Brad, I have a question. what's your favorite David Fincher film?
to brad, well the guy that was the demon is the guy from insidious, i thought the same, also they are making another insidious btw
Man of Steel sucks.
That's what this review is about, right?
You guys are right about the puppet. It just looks like Slappy the Dummy for R.L. Stine's books but in drags. It looks like he, well she's just going to have a potty mouth and frame kids for the pranks he does. Ooky spooky.
Sarah is so goddamn cute i just can't.......I wish I had friends like yours, Brad
Love how Sarah trying to make the male character hateable lol. My god this is why I don't watch sarah reviews.
Took me long enough, but sweet fucking CHRIST. Gone Girl was amazing. I could say I expected maybe half of that movie. And those expectations were the low things on the totem pole. That movie flat out rips through the general tropes of its kind.
Annabelle was a complete let down. I expected to watch a movie that was at least as good at the short story of her in The Conjuring but it wasn't. It was bland, boring, and forgettable. There's no highlights to the movie.
i have to say I too was disappointed in Annabelle!!!
