Wow!! Just watched the "Epic" review and I have never seen Brad that mad and I've never seen Jake that calm after watching a bad film!
When are you going to get around to reviewing Dino Time?
Okay, you guys dropped the ball on this one. Yeah, the movie "Epic" isn't great, but you CLEARLY did not pay attention to it. Why is the daughter with him? Because she isn't old enough to live on her own. The dad's the only legal guardian she has. No mention of how the girl is easily the most stumbly character? Or how EVERYTHING in the movie was creepin' on her, to a point that it was a little...unsettling? That's the shit that needed addressing.
Oh you mean the neglectful dad who constantly put his and her life in danger with no regard for anyone but himself? Yeah, special circumstances could get anyone away from this guy. Still doesn't take away from the fact that that was probably only about 10% of the problem we had with this movie; the other 90% being the movie's complete tonal failure, it's inability to let a real moment happen without something stupid interrupting it, or those damn snails that made me want to choke on my own popcorn. You make it sound like the dad was the only thing we talked about in this video, and that you were looking for any excuse to completely negate our opinion on it.
I didn't say you were wrong about the dad being horrible. I was just answering why she was there in the first place, because apparently both of you guys missed it. And he really didn't put her life in constant danger, they barely shared any dialogue except at the end (which, as we both know was not a good reason). I brought up the dad thing because it was one of the few problems I had with the review. Everything else was spot on. I also added some things you missed or forgot (e.g. EVERYTHING CREEPIN' ON THE GIRL ((from the "Sluuuuug" (((I'm sorry Aziz Ansari is a guilty pleasure for me((((love you Reggie)))) but he wasn't very funny here))) to the main dude and even the wise old caterpillar)) ) Also, in the review you say the main dude is a stumbling idiot character, I disagree. The girl is by far the worst at this. She jumps off a shelf at one point and immediately eats shit. She slams first face into a paint can lid, slips around on pencils and still manages to trip over her own stupidity on her way to main guy. Not to mention when she tries to escape from the mouse, she immediately jumps up and hits her head on a root knocking herself unconscious. Meanwhile, main guy flies through a bramble bush thing on a bird.
I agree with the hate, I just felt a portion of it was misguided and had to clear things up.
Ah shit, how do I delete stuff? I didn't mean to do that.
We didn't miss it. It's not that hard to follow. We simply recognized how shitty the character was and that there were other alternatives to this situation.
Just because you disagree that the guy was a bumbling idiot (something we didn't make up) doesn't make our opinion of it wrong simply because it doesn't line up with what you thought of it. It's just our opinion. You're also asking me to recall a movie I saw well over a year ago and hated. We explained our reasons for not liking it.
I just love watching your epic review of, well, Epic, over and over again. With all the kids movies that you and (mostly) Jake have seen, along with the other reviews you have done as Cinema Snob and the other reviewers at Channel Awesome, I am just learning a lot about how to competently create my own content. I'm definitely not going to please everyone, but I really am grateful for all of the mind-numbing schlock you and your friends put yourself through. Some might call it simply entertainment, but I'm definitely learning things the more I watch these videos.
As a side-note, you really think that at some point, all of the environmentally aware characters created over the years will just end up meeting each other and either have a big hippie festival or fight to prove who is the most worthy of saving the trees.
Jake looking forward to the dinosaur movie.
I wonder which movies you or jake would rather sit through Epic, James Cameron's Titanic, or Marley & Me.
I definitely agree about the useless comic-relief shifts and characters thrown into this somewhat dark, emotional fantasy animated film. The father character you brought up reminds of that stupid bumbling bird expert from the first Rio, only I would hate this character more so than that one. Makes me dislike this film, but I'm really curious about killing 90 minutes of my life just to check out those problems.
However, I mostly dig you and Jake's touch on voice-acting in animation. I loved when classic and contemporary animated films used actual professional voice actors like Frank Welker or in the case of Disney with having Jodi Benson as Ariel for example, they convey emotion to match the language and animation of their characters. With today's animated movies like Epic and other recent films, mainly by Blue Sky Studios who hire music artists and A-list actors who don't have much professionalism in voice acting just to appeal to this generation of audiences who enjoy them. In that sense, FOX owns Blue Sky and also, they lead the music industry which shows their attempts of making more money in these films because Beyonce would make Epic worthy to watch, same with Drake & Nicky Minaj in Ice Age 4 and Bruno Mars in Rio 2.
Hope you understand where I went with this and I enjoyed your "EPIC" rant.
FF6 is already my favorite of the series so far! Don't know how would I rank Furious 7, but I'll see when I watch it tomorrow night!
