After months worth of teasing, it's time to take a look at the pilot episode of the forgotten 1992 series "Tequila and Bonetti."
3/31/2015 02:16:15 am
You're right, that is Terry Funk! Hell Yeah!
4/3/2015 02:59:15 pm
lol random Terry Funk this really is the best.
3/25/2015 05:02:46 am
The day has finally arrived, both for a new DVD-R HEll, and that you're doing one on Tequila and Bonetti. That's a double win right there.
3/25/2015 05:03:59 am
Good god, that was magnificent. I don't recall that being aired in the UK and honestly i would have been too young to appreciate it. Cheers for showing us a gem of a show featuring talking dogs, over the top italian americans and kids being killed
3/25/2015 06:30:40 am
Watched it as a teenager on german television and liked it very much. But i must say i'm shocked to here that there were only 12 episodes.
3/25/2015 06:33:54 am
"to hear" i meant. Sry, stupid German ;)
3/25/2015 07:06:59 am
Hey man, me too! :P
3/25/2015 08:28:16 pm
I remember this being aired on Hungarian television. Also that sequel series where Bonetti goes to Rome.
3/25/2015 05:05:00 am
...and yet somehow, Terry Funk being in this was the weirdest part to me...
3/25/2015 05:06:34 am
I hope Terry Funk got to bust out his "egg sucking dog" line at some point during the run of the show.
3/26/2015 02:09:08 am
Wouldn't be complete if didn't call someone a "Bannana nose" or say someone looked "like Bob Barkerrrr..."
3/25/2015 05:11:15 am
YES! Must have more! Just imagine if Tequila teamed up with Manimal!
3/25/2015 05:17:54 am
Tonal whiplash in Last House on the Left = bad, but tonal whiplash in Tequila and Bonetti is great. Nice constancy there.
3/25/2015 05:28:58 am
I didn't like the tonal whiplash in Last House on the Left = I now have to hate tonal whiplash in every movie or show ever.
3/25/2015 06:34:29 am
To respectfully disagree, I think he doesn't mind it in Tequila and Bonetti because even if it has serious things in it, it doesn't really seem like a show that is meant to be serious overall. With Last House On The Left, it does and having those random tone changes does it more harm. Just my two cents, though.
The Hand of Onan
3/25/2015 07:16:13 am
It's just a fact that the tonal shifts in Tequila and Bonnetti are exactly the same as in Last House on The Left. Brad is either confused, being contrarian or is plain weird..
3/25/2015 01:07:13 pm
Except Tequila and Bonetti is mostly a comedy. Last House on the Left isn't. And aside from that, at the end of the day, I found the jokes and tone in Tequila and Bonetti funny, and the ones in Last House on the Left not so much. That's like saying that because I liked the fart joke in Blazing Saddles, I now have to like every fart joke ever in the history of ever.
3/25/2015 05:19:52 am
Omg... I really need to find this series online somewhere. This is friggen amazing X'D Oh early 90s, I miss you so very much sometimes.
The Hand of Onan
3/25/2015 05:32:19 am
Mariska Hargitay is Jayne Mansfield's daughter.
3/26/2015 10:48:36 am
I never knew that. Cool!
3/25/2015 06:09:13 am
Holy shit, that actually IS Terry Funk! ...Holy shit, a good number of people here actually know who Terry Funk is.
3/25/2015 06:19:17 am
Spent whole episode saying please do more episodes of this over and over when Brad said he was at the end I lost my shit. Great stuff Brad can't wait for future episodes.
3/25/2015 06:25:31 am
Holy. Shit. How have I never seen this show? It looks amazing.
3/25/2015 06:26:51 am
Are you gonna talk about the Italian spin-off?
The dude abides
3/25/2015 06:59:59 am
Officer Terry Funk for the win
3/25/2015 07:01:17 am
When you started teasing this, I seriously thought you made it up and it was just a running gag. I'm still not sure you didn't.
3/25/2015 07:13:04 am
I love this show, it's so charming. :D
3/25/2015 07:15:06 am
Who was this show made for?It wasnt for kids because of all the graphic crime. Its not for people into cop shows because of the dog.Its not for people who want to watch a comedy because its not funny.
3/25/2015 07:16:32 am
It was made for me. :)
3/25/2015 07:36:44 am
As the Dubble down was made for fat people. Or the bacon cheese burger made for me.
3/25/2015 07:29:18 am
I just want to know what kind of drugs these people were on when they thought this was a good idea for a tv show.
The Dude abides
3/25/2015 07:31:44 am
I was kind of digging this DVD-R hell and I would watch this show on its own. I can't wait to see how they take down a serial rapist next time.
3/25/2015 08:01:09 am
Dont me wrong I loved the DVDR hell review(just like all of Brad's reviews) its just the show I dont get. Its like if the animals from Homeward Bound or Cats and Dogs were in their own mature CSI type show but played totally straight and not as a parody.
3/25/2015 07:34:00 am
Not sure why I got the <br/> <br/> code on my reply.I think something might be wrong with the reply button html code thats making it act funky.
3/25/2015 07:48:31 am
for me too.
3/25/2015 07:18:35 am
Crime? cops? 1992? Come on Brad! lets go play Grand theft auto San Andreas!
3/25/2015 08:54:07 am
Oh Boy! A new series on this Web-site!!!!!!!
3/25/2015 01:09:08 pm
The Reviewers finale is filming now, and Brian was in the hospital with an appendicitis. That's why there's a delay on those shows.
3/25/2015 01:45:32 pm
Is there gonna be a Reviewers DVD at some point?
3/25/2015 06:43:57 pm
Shame about Brian. While we would all like to see him down a thing of hot sauce and set his insides on fire, it might be prudent to delay it a bit. At least until there's less of a risk of his bowels blowing out in the middle of filming.
3/26/2015 03:17:25 pm
And thus the true cost of the flaming kitchen is revealed, his entire GI tract is a battleground.
3/26/2015 03:52:46 am
It's not new. DVD-R Hell has been around for years now.
3/25/2015 09:00:25 am
Tequila & Bonetti--the "Firefly" of talking dog cop shows. Looking forward to more.
3/25/2015 09:03:33 am
Dude, you ever watch "Titus"?
3/25/2015 02:00:50 pm
Titus is the best sitcom ever...
3/26/2015 05:50:37 pm
I so agree. I watch the Christmas episode every year around Christmas.
3/25/2015 09:30:03 am
Hey, are you also going to look at the 2000 Italian version, where Bonetti goes to Rome?
3/25/2015 09:54:07 am
Captain Midnight must write for WGN radio.
3/25/2015 03:40:25 pm
Brad Jones: the greatest internet wordsmith the world's ever seen.
3/25/2015 10:50:44 pm
Yeah, I was impressed with that one. Made me smile too. :)
3/25/2015 10:29:43 am
Sam Spade as the Coroner huh...So does that make The Shadow the chief of police
Barry The Mster Of Sandwich
3/25/2015 10:32:35 am
The most interesting shows are mid season fill ins.
3/25/2015 10:53:34 am
I can't wait for the next episode. I am literally pissing myself with anticipation.
Powdered Toast Man
3/26/2015 08:03:38 am
Happy Happy Joy Joy!
3/25/2015 11:14:14 am
~6:00... is that goofy cop... is that... Terry Funk?
3/25/2015 11:28:33 am
Holy crap it was!
3/25/2015 12:45:34 pm
This looks great and I would love to watch each episode before your take on it. Where the hell is this series though. It's nowhere online, has no dvd or vhs as far as I can tell. Do you have vhs rips of all episodes?
3/25/2015 01:35:44 pm
I love your DVD-R Hell series so much!!! Glad to see a new episode!
3/25/2015 01:55:54 pm
At least Mariska Hargitay is in the series. I can see why you like the show. Look forward to seeing more. As for the serial rapist, shouldn't that be Detective Benson's job.
3/25/2015 03:38:13 pm
I'm glad this is turning into a full on retrospective cause I was going you'd make a reference to A Walk Among the Tombstones, what with the main characters in each accidentally killing kids and what not. Now I'm imagining that movie being reworked as a reboot of Tequila and Bonetti which would be messed up. But I shall be taking this show down now.
3/25/2015 04:52:19 pm
This is weirdly reminding me of Charles Rocket's death. The investigation of his death finally concluded when it was ruled a suicide by the medical examiner even though it happened under very peculiar and unlikely circumstances, he's famous for a mistake he made a long time ago that nearly ended his career and it's commonly believed that this would make him go into fits of self-loathing when he was alone, and his body was discovered by a dog.
3/25/2015 06:16:41 pm
I hate dogs.
3/25/2015 07:40:32 pm
So Terry Funk is in.this. I would love to see him beat a bad guy into bloody hamburger using a barbwire lace weapon
3/27/2015 07:56:13 am
Bonus point if the bad guy's played by Mick Foley.
3/25/2015 08:31:45 pm
fuck yeah at the 12 part look at this series.
The Hand of Onan
3/25/2015 09:03:25 pm
3/25/2015 09:04:05 pm
Yes! Thank you, thank you, thank you! The glory of Tequila and Bonetti has finally been unleashed upon the unsuspecting internet!
3/25/2015 09:54:55 pm
Sadly, all hype and no payoff. This really doesn't look all that interesting to me.
3/25/2015 10:57:40 pm
I thought it was fascinating. First time Brad referenced this show on another video I looked it up and I was totally bamboozled by it, I can see why Brad finds it so intriguing. It is such a totally bizarre concept for a cop show (you can tell the network was trying to give it a unique, zany 'spin' to make it stand out from the many, many competitors in that genre) and the fact that the drama is actually done so well (which is something I also found people saying when reading about it) just adds this extra layer of weirdness. There was no WAY this show was ever going to succeed, the mash-up of ideas just wasn't coherent enough to really appeal to any demographic, but the fact that what was in essence a SHIT idea was pulled off so competently is kind of fascinating. Plus, early 90s cheese- like that neon pink apartment! Can't go wrong with that either.
3/25/2015 11:23:48 pm
But how weird is that; It does have charm, it does stand out... And still, this entire episode I had the feeling that I had seen this shtick before. Most of the media Brad is enthusiastic about, I am too, because for the most part I get the guy, we both have very common interests, but most of the moments where Brad was enthusiastic about a scene, my only thought was "...Eh, that wasn't really special". I will however watch the rest of the episodes, because maybe this pilot gives me a very false impression of what the series is capable off, but this episode was a catastrophic letdown for me, as the teasing bits in previous episodes by Brad were really funny to me. Then again, I'm very happy for all of you that you are enjoying it, it's probably just not my cup of tea, although it should be.
3/25/2015 11:30:51 pm
But how weird is that; I do see it has charm, I do see it stands out, and still I don't find this setup very special. To me, this pilot has a "I've seen this before"-feel over it, and not in a good way. Sadly, because I think Brad and I share a lot of common interests, yet every time he was enthusiastic about something in this video, I could only think "...dude, that wasn't very special". I loved the teasing bits in previous videos, but this video was a catastrophic letdown for me. I will still watch the other DVD-R Hell episodes, because perhaps this pilot just gave me a very false impression of the series, but I'm afraid this series is just not my cup of tea (although it should be).
3/26/2015 07:15:13 am
This unfunny piece of shit troll isn't me.
3/25/2015 10:27:51 pm
HOLY SHIT! It's Terry Funk!
3/26/2015 02:10:52 am
If at some point he took a flaming branding iron to some criminal scum, my life would be complete...
3/25/2015 10:59:32 pm
This show reminds me quite a bit of Inspector Rex (aka Kommisar Rex in Austria), very similar premise except the dog doesn't talk- though I guess there's a few dog-partner cop shows. Inspector Rex has some of the same tropes though (the dog Rex is always stealing a certain policeman's ham roles) and has a slightly similar 90s goofiness to it, but with a European flavour obviously.
3/25/2015 11:33:44 pm
-/-/-I'm just posting my reply to your other post here, as it doesn't seem to show up otherwise.-\-\-
3/26/2015 07:15:30 am
I didn't write this stupid crap.
3/26/2015 02:02:40 am
I was doubtful about you praising this so hard, until I saw MY FAVORITE FUCKING WRESTLER TERRY FUNK (the "landed on the fiddler's three" cop)! I take it back Brad, this IS the greatest thing ever!
3/26/2015 02:02:52 am
Fucking Dog House. I used to watch that in French.
3/26/2015 03:31:24 am
So the dog solves the case? Where has this show been all my life? I grew up in the 80s/90s, how did I miss this?
3/26/2015 04:06:16 am
The opening reminds me of the one from Hawaiian Heat, cop shoots and kills innocent bystander in gritty temperate zone city, cut to sunny, warm paradise where cop start fresh.
The Hand of Onan
3/26/2015 04:42:23 am
I did not care for the obvious propaganda from this series. I also could have done without Brad's not-so-subtle inferences.
The Hand of Onan
3/27/2015 09:45:42 am
Charlatan, False Hand of Onan! What is Brad inferring
3/26/2015 05:06:54 am
If you will not make a video on every second episode of this masterpiece I will cut off my cock with a chainsaw.
3/26/2015 06:25:17 am
So I finally get to see what this show is about... and Oh my Bob is it amazing.
3/26/2015 08:07:58 am
Odd, the only episode I still vividly remember also featured humpty dumpty.
3/26/2015 09:49:48 am
Holy shit, this is an actual thing. With actual people who went on to have careers. Wow. Apparently it lasted for 12 episodes. Firefly only aired 11 in its original run. Unbelievable. Oh, you bet I'm looking forward to more!
3/26/2015 12:09:22 pm
I saw Tequila & Bonetti back in 1992. I wanna say it aired on CBS since Bellisario works pretty much exclusively for them. I see the show is just as bizarre as I remember it being. I believe the show aired right after Matlock, but I could be wrong. I only watched it for two or three episodes before I gave up on it. Looking forward to more DVD-R Hell reviews of this show.
3/27/2015 04:34:53 am
First of all, I loved that joke you made about the crime scene with the hanging woman. It genuinely made me chuckle, and I don't do that very often. :D It's great that you will review the other episodes too. :)
3/27/2015 05:06:04 am
Hey Brad, the site seems really screwy these days. The preview thingamajig on the main page is missing for me and I've noticed comments just disappearing. Also, there was that <br/> <br/> craziness going on the other day. :c
3/27/2015 05:20:15 am
The preview image works on my end, but I explained over on the new Midnight Screenings page about the comments.
3/27/2015 01:07:47 pm
I am so happy you referenced Ghetto Man!
3/27/2015 01:39:07 pm
Dude, you should do a cross-over DVD-R Hell with Linkara about Legend of the Superheroes!
3/28/2015 01:21:31 pm
Was Tequila the inspiration for ROB the robot on 80's Dan? They both sound a lot alike.
3/29/2015 12:52:55 pm
HEY, I like NCIS!
3/30/2015 04:18:57 pm
Brad, thank you so much for posting this! I've been trying to find out more about "Tequila & Bonetti" ever since I read about the series in a book.
3/31/2015 05:00:37 pm
I can't wait for more episodes!!!
4/3/2015 12:45:36 pm
Does anyone know if there are decent English subtitles for the Italian version? I don't really want to find my college Italian textbook just for Tequila and Bonetti.
5/9/2015 07:48:24 am
really thought bonetti would have been the dog
Hey Brad, huge fan of Cinema Snob! I wanted to share a cool story with you. My friend and I were at the at the beach the week they filmed Tequila and Bonetti. I'll never forget it was at Seal Beach, California. There were a bunch of props there for the filming and we saw the hover board from Back to the Future. My friend and I wanted to steal it so bad but we didn't. Anyways, we asked the film crew what they were filming and they said it was a TV show called Tequila and Bonetti and we about fell out laughing, what a stupid name. Anyways its cool to see you review this. Trip to see footage of it... Thanks Cinema Snob!!
12/9/2015 06:33:47 pm
Hey Brad, did you know that apperantly crystal pepsi is coming back on the market?
5/31/2016 11:25:18 am
This reminds me of Katts and Dog, a show about a K-9 officer that aired in Canada in the late 80s/early 90s.
8/7/2019 02:28:23 am
Im grateful for the blog post.Really thank you!
3/26/2020 07:48:26 pm
The information is very special, I will have to follow you, the information you bring is very real, reflecting correctly and objectively, it is very useful for society to grow together.

Reasonable post. I learn something absolutely new and testing on grievances I StumbleUpon dependably. It's continually fundamental to examine articles from different writers and work on something from different protests.

In this series, Brad spotlights & reviews some of the weirder titles from his collection, that don't necessarily fall into any specific categories.
