DVD-R Hell: "Tequila and Bonetti: Reel Life"

7/28/2015

A movie star rides along with Tequila and Bonetti in a plot that's rather similar to the Michael J. Fox movie The Hard Way!  Plus, find out what makes a "thanks, Tequila" episode.

I was hoping for a Snob episode today, but this'll do! Gotta have more of that sweet Tequila...and Bonetti too!

Also, good luck sitting through Vacation tonight! Just try to remind yourself there's a way better movie coming out this week. I'm sure you would rather hold on to the side of a A400 than sit through another Vacation sequel!

This is what I was hoping was coming when I saw that the previous episodes were uploaded to the Youtube channel, didn't expect it so soon.

Hey Brad, crazy idea: for the next snob episode witha talking animal, you should film Lloyd and dub over the footage with your Big Box Vic voice :)

I still hope to see the Italian spinoff of Tequila and Bonetti at least mentioned if not covered when the series is finished.

Exactly, "The Hard Way" didn't have a talking dog named Tequila. And that's the reason why I'll watch this instead

So when is the next brad tries? I am sick of fast food episodes.

Brad should try the latest Do Me A Flavor entries.

I'm eating the biscuits and gravy chips right now. They're...ok.

Hold on... "Dream the Impossible Dream"...

Yes, because when Man of La Mancha sang about an impossible dream, he sang about pretending to be a cop in front of a talking dog!

Aww, why the Richard Eden hate? That Robocop series was filmed in my hometown!

Ridding the Earth of scum? Does he wanna be a cop, or a Man in Black?

Wait, he falls OFF a third story window? Was he standing on an uninstalled window that was intended for the third floor, but then one of the builders picked it up, knocking him off?

Awww, I thought that Robocop joke was going to segway into when WCW had Robocop save Sting from the Four Horsemen!

I know, right? It explains why Terry Funk thinks RoboCop is real!

24:04 - "Oriental kid"

Wow, just see what happens if you put something like that in a credits sequence today.

Nobody would care except 3 people and those 3 people would have a bunch of articles written about them by Buzzfeed and similar, where all their angry tweets would be quoted. Then 10,000 people would reply to those articles angry that there are so many "PC" people these days.

So much fun! Why did this show not run for like seven seasons? I'm so glad you discovered this show. Which brings up HOW did you discover this show?

I can probably answer the first question: it was almost universally derided by critics, and it came three years AFTER the cop-and-dog movies Turner & Hooch, K-9, and other less-known knock-offs. Bellisario was late to the party, and he probably devoted most of his time to his hit show "Quantum Leap," which ran from 1989 to 1993. I'd bet this was a 'feeler' project for him, seeing if it was viable, to give him something to do after Quantum Leap was over.

It's a little shocking that this did so badly when you look at Bellisario's roster of what I'd consider "good TV shows" which he created, or those for which was a writer:

-- Magnum P.I.
-- NCIS
-- JAG
-- Airwolf
-- Tales of the Gold Monkey
-- Battlestar Galactica

I'm just going from memory here, so I'm probably missing some.

Great stuff! This show truly is an amazing amalgamation of goofiness and serious police procedural action.

Oh man, Sudden Death is my favorite JCVD movie, mostly because it's about the Penguins and set almost entirely in Mellon Arena. (It's since been demolished.) Rarely has a retractable roof on a stadium been used so eloquently.

Also (slightly more on topic) I like that Brad's reference point for John D'Aquino is "That's My Bush" while mine is "SeaQuest".

I distracted myself for a good 5 minutes just looking up those Ghana movie posters. Dear god, what a fun little google trip that was.

Also, now I really miss That's My Bush.

"We don't even see the chase; he's just already bitten off a piece of his ass."

I have no explanation for why this line made me laugh so hard.

MAN....every time I see that poster I'm like "Are you fucking KIDDING me?!"
Looking at that f-ed up anatomy.....My artistic cortex wigs out & my old-school illustration hand just wants to wreck it and do it over.... hell I could wipe my ass with a canvas and get a better result! F DAT PIC! ~lol
