I saw this when it first aired. I remember the animation slightly creeped me out. The thing I remember the most, though, is how my dad bitched the whole time about how stupid he thought it was...I think he was missing a football game or something.

I don't know much about holiday specials, but that upbeat 50's song was just boss.

What is that song you used for the upbeat 50's music?

Palisades Park, by Freddy Cannon. I think.

Nelvana is also notorious for the terrible dub of the great 90's anime series from Clamp: Cardcaptor Sakura (aka Cardcaptors).

Ah, yes. Where they tried to hide the fact that almost everyone in that series is bisexual.

well, some were bisexual while other characters were gay/lesbians. the only thing creepier in the original version was the implied pedophilia going on with the teacher and one of the students. but aside from that, it's all relatively harmless. along with the awful dubbed actors, it also had terrible editing with some episodes fused together as one or even some episodes dropped completely for no apparent reason. they also tried to make the male character the main character in the advertisement. that's like making Tuxedo Mask the main character in a show called Sailor Moon. they also attempting to compete with Pokémon. even though they really have nothing in common. the only thing from the American dub that I genuinely liked was the theme song & the actor who played Kero. thankfully, the Bang Zoom dub for the 2nd movie is vastly superior. hopefully we will eventually get a more proper dub of the series now that distribution companies have a better grasp on it compared to the late 90's to early 2000's. the only way to give the title a pass is if they made a sequel series where they're multiple people finding similar powers and Sakura being sort of a teacher to them.

In this series, Brad spotlights & reviews some of the weirder titles from his collection, that don't necessarily fall into any specific categories.
