Sadly, some version of the fake video you mentioned probably exists.
Yes, it does. Just body paint and nonsense.
Anyone else think Black Nerd looks like Biz Markie?
Yes yes, all black people look alike.
Funny, I don't see anyone saying IceJJFish looks like Ice Cube, who looks like Dave Chapelle, who looks like Martin Lawrence, who looks Tupac, who looks like Jamie Foxx, who looks like Keenan Thompson, who looks like Keenan Ivory Wayans, who looks like Tyler Perry, who looks like Antoine Dodson, who looks like Black Jesus, who looks like Black Nerd.
Wait, those people are all different?
Sad that Jake's gone, would have been nice for him to have some retribution to this shit.
Well if Jake wasn't an asshole, then he might still be here.
What did Jake do that he isn't on the site anymore?
The reason why is because Jake and Brad's then-girlfriend (the one BEFORE Violet), were seeing each other behind Brad's back. The whole story is on a channel awesome forum or something, but that's why.
It says a lot that the funniest moment in a 28 minute video is Brad's 30-second cameo. Sad, I remember really enjoying The Nostalgia Critic sometime in 2011.
and now channel awesome has someone called the "black critic"......sure are raising bar for creativity, arent they?
Uh, no they don't. If you mean Black Nerd from this review he's not a member of the site.
i stand corrected,, but still "black nerd" thats lame. Almost as lame as TGWTG rip off names like "That jerk with the camera" and what not.
Also, who is a member of that site anymore? Everyone except no name vloggers seemed to have jumped ship minus Brad, Sage and like 2 others who are decent.
Yeah, it use to be great when all he did was rip on the film. When he does skits they're hit and miss- mostly miss. Its funny to think if he did less he'd make better videos.
I've tried getting into the new(er) NC videos, but the cut-away gags really strip any of the humor out of it for me. I think I recall laughing once a few years back...
The problem comes in where I just don't care about the two performers contributing to the gag. They're unknowns and not very funny on their own (again, IMO). When you bring in a cameo from Brad, Matthew Buck, Noah, Allison, etc., you get some humor out of it, despite them reading off the same material. They're a known quantity and have a decent comedic timing.
It's got me circling back to the older NC vids instead of watching any of the new content. Maybe if there was a fan edit, chopping most of that out..? That could make it a bit better.
The League of Super Critics upload of the Pearl Harbor review cuts out all of the cutaway stuff. But I actually like Malcolm and Tamara. And, uh, Rachel too I guess, kinda.
I will admit its not as strong as when it first came back. Garfield is so completely shit that I can't even watch the review of it, but that's as much the movie itself as the mocking of it. I had the same issue with Milk Money and Drop Dead Fred, and still have no clue how the fuck I managed to sit through the Garbage Pail Kids one.
I think it would help if the people contributing to CA actually took film classes and technical classes and actually had the ability to articulate why something is bad.
Or at least be like brad and be completely hilarious.
I mentioned it before in another video comment section, but the reviewers dont seem to understand or have the ability to know why something is bad in writing, cinematography, lighting, ect and it shows when THEY attempt something.
Brad Jone's movies are low budget but they're also really competent considering the gear and hands they have.
NC cant even get three point lighting and simple audio down.
Or take for example in NC's jurassic World review where he says the CGI and effects were shit but failed to describe why but anyone who studies film will bring up two obvious points
1. over detailed/caked on cgi
2. the removal of orange tints.
Take a look at some of the best CGI ever shown in daylight, jurassic park and Davy Jones from pirates of the Caribbean. What do you see?
Boom. Good cgi that looks real.
But critic and most others doesnt understand this and try comedy which they dont seem to understand either.
So instead of simple enjoyable riffing like the early TGWGT days we get obnoxious and badly informed videos where you have to defend a bad movie because the critiqueing was so flawed. (like the Pearl Harbor review)
I understand why Doug felt that he needed to go back to NC after Demo Reel failed, but every time I watch his new reviews I just wonder why he doesn't make a separate all out sketch show. I personally have never liked the kind of reviews that have plots around them, like Linkara for example, but at least Linkara uses the plots as bookends and doesn't interrupt his actual review with it so I can still watch it. Whereas when I try to watch a newer NC, it's usually meet skimming through most of it because I just want to watch the review portion.
I dunno, between the handful of post-Demo Reel Nostalgia Critic videos and the other things I've seen lately (like that movie quiz show thing Brad posted a few days ago) I just get the sense that Doug Walker is probably a really miserable and unlikeable person to be around since getting Internet Famous, and I think that's been reflecting in his writing and performing.
Team Snob, on the other hand, all seem really cool and fun, so their back-and-forth (like in the Midnight Screenings) really sells you on the idea that "Yes, these people are actually friends" and it gives them really good on-screen chemistry. And Brad himself has only gotten better over time, like a fine 20-year-aged bourbon whiskey.
Yup. Doug Walker is a miserable person. That was exactly what I was saying.
I can't hate on Doug, his Sharknado review is what got me to check out Brad's stuff. Also I liked some of the earlier post demo reel stuff. Like the Shining mini series.
Same for me, I used to only watch NC videos. But after the Sharknado crossover Brad became my favorite reviewer, still I can't be mad at Doug, even when is jokes fail.
The fact that he goes as far to try to make an educated complaint about MOVEMENT shows that the Nostalgia Critic has gone downhill.
Watching this video actually makes me want to see the Smurfs movie. For all their critique, I actually found myself enjoying the movie footage shown.
Two points of question though.
Movement porn, that doesn't seem like a bad thing given the tone of the movie (light hearted stupid).
And the CGI. Would something that looks realistic (for lack of a better term) be better? They look out of place...In modern New York. That doesn't seem like a bad thing.
I like the Nostalgia Critic, as well as Channel Awesome.
Hey, I never would have heard of Brad, or many others, without Channel Awesome.
Love Black Nerd, he's able to keep up with NC's quick-timed humor flawlessly. "Neil Patrick Harris's pregnant beard", nice. But the crudely written cover for Smurf Porn is fucking hilarious.
I am on Team Grayskull. I really enjoyed this Nostalgia Critic, but I mostly agree with Jegsimmons. I feel Walker's brothers are going off of assumptions than actual knowledge of films or aspect of films. Also, Walker's brother was much better and quicker when doing it within a week. We accepts their limitations a lot more and their editing is quicker paced. What make them different from Brad Jones because his shows isn't really a review show and more of a MST3K style with character, and he feels to be a lot more knowledgeable since he seem to watch more wide range films than the Walkers brother who tend to be to specific genres. But that's my two cents on it.
This is...painful to watch. Why is Doug trying so hard? Are all his vlogs and other random bullshit videos no one cares about not making him enough money?
I dont know, lets see him make a vlog series about it.
But that vlog shit he is doing is probably partial reason to blip shutting down. Wasnt their intent to not become youtube tier vlogging?
Now what happened? CA has become youtube tier vlogging.
At least Brads vlogs and vlog like videos have some sort of twist and gimmick to them other than "sit infront of camera and speak".
I honestly think it all stems from when Doug started treating the NC like a job. NC videos used to be something he'd make in his spare time when him and his brother found funny things about movies they watched. It was more like a hobby, or a passion of sorts. Similarly, TGWTG felt like a site where a bunch of friends came together and shared their passions and their interests with their videos.
But now? It's forced. Like a job. Or a school assignment. Doug attacks each movie like he's writing a college essay, and rather than including real jokes or hilarity, we just get various lame skits featuring the Demo Reel cast who are always trying way too hard do something funny with unfunny writing in an attempt to illustrate whatever point Doug's trying to make. It's formulaic and simply painful to watch - particularly when you get the impression that the cast thinks themselves to be entertaining comedians.
I think the Demo Reel cast could funny if used appropriately, but for the longest time it's felt like NC's have become a bunch of different ideas shoehorned together that don't work.
And as for Channel Awesome? It's become saturated, watered down, and a bit of a sad place to visit considering what it all used to be. I used to be able to visit TGWTG, pull up random videos, and always find something funny or interesting. Now if I do that, I'll just get some random lazily-made video-blog of someone talking about an anime they watched last week, or a random Star Trek episode, or a random toy, etc.
I'm not sure if there used to be any standards for the site, but if there were, they're clearly gone now.
It makes sense that it'd be more of a job now considering Doug was done with the Nostalgia Critic and Demo Reel was supposed to be his new passion project.
The Brad cameo is around 12:45 if you don't wanna sit through Doug's "review."
I saw the title card and thought this was a disgusting porn parody but then I realized it was worse, it was Doug.
