Wouldn't be a Phelous video if it didn't bash Doug, To Boldly Flee, and Demo Reel in the span of the first minute.
I dunno. Brad's been doing some clever meta stuff lately. I can't imagine why I haven't seen him and Phelous team up before
Everytime someone makes a joke about Demo Reel, a kid in third world gets his copy of Suburban Knights
They get a copy of Suburban Knights? Wouldn't that be child abuse?
WHO ARE THESE TWO NON-TEAM SNOB PEOPLE WITH BRAD THEY SUCK BLAH BLAH BLAH
Yeah, I can't finish this in one sitting. Why and how do Phelous reviews with more people than just Phelous always flow so badly?
I'm with you on this. I love Phelous's stuff, just not when he works with others. I think it is because the jokes just become a bit too anti-humor.
I also like Phelous's reviews. And I usually like the crossovers Lupa does. And I like it whenever Brad shows up somewhere, both in and out of character, in crossovers or alone. So this should work, but it doesn't, because Phelous's style doesn't work when he starts interacting with his co-reviewers the same way he usually interacts with characters from the movie. The anti-humour in his solo reviews usually has a purpose and a place where it works, but here they just throw it in wherethefuckever. There are just too many dead stops. It doesn't flow.
I like the three of them, and I like the review, but it's the "we act awkward as nothing happens, that's the joke" moments that irk at me. I do think two reviewers, and then having the third person in a big cameo role, has a better mix. Brad stole the show in the Birdemic 2 review, but it managed to keep a good dynamic. Although, to be fair he also stole the show in the Blood Rayne review too, which thought was more "decidedly okay" than this was.
I don't think I ever watched the Birdemic 2 review up until the point when he shows up. It's a two-parter and he isn't in the first part, right?
AM I DEAD YET?
'You made it past the twenty minute mark?! I could never get past the part where the squirrel shits out of his eyes!'
It's funny, Cinema Snob, JonTron, and Todd in the Shadows are the only online reviewers I keep up with, and two of the three have reviewed this terrible movie now.
There are Foodfight! toys? Of course there are. And of course Phelan bought them.
This is a lot better than their Birdemic review.
I like the Phelous proposal fakeout.
Phelan and Lupa the Tim and Eric of TGWTG.
Come on, dude. Comparing Tim and Eric to anyone is a low blow.
An apt comparison, though. Its basically Tim and Eric, except you do the Rob Schneider parody commercial voice.
Both P&L and T&E are unfunny.
If by "unfunny," you mean "hilarious," then yes.
They spent 20 million on that thing? Seriously? 90's era T.V. CG was better.
Reboot and Beast Wars were master pieces compared to this shitfest.
Well duh. Beast Wars is a masterpiece compared to a lot of things, as it's straight up amazing.
They spent $65 million.
$45 million, actually.
I went with the IMDB price. It makes more sense, considering its a computer animated movie that was in production for over 10 years, had a hideous amount of product placement, and was in severe development puratory.
I prefer when they focus more on actually reviewing than doing long pauses and jokes.
Yeah, I don't care to watch a video featuring phallus, not a big fan, sorry. I just had to share this. . .
I just got Psycho on special edition blu ray, it has a documentary featuring todays biggest directors, composers & editors reminiscing about how Hitchcock influenced them & their style of film making. You know, only the best of the elite directors of past & present.
Greats like John Carpenter, Martin Scorsese & William Friedkin, along with todays best, such as Guillermo del Toro & Joe Carnahan. Ok, the failed punch line to this rant is that ELI ROTH is among these greater men! WTF!
I mean come on, it's one ting to have him chime in on a list of 100 "scariest movie moments" & their even lamer spinoffs, but this was a sad, sick joke!
So yeah, sorry again, Mista J! (Jones)
My apologies, that was uncalled for. Sorry.
I watched the video & um, er, yeah it's not for me.
Why did you even bother commenting? Simply saying "Oh yeah I'm not gonna watch this video" and then proceeding to type out a completely unrelated anecdote about a documentary on the Psycho DVD that literally no one asked you for is just annoying and adds nothing to the discussion.
Apparently you ignored my follow up "apology' comment stating that my previous pointless comment was uncalled for.
Now you're commenting on MY pointless comment, also adding nothing to the discussion. So. . .
Now if you'll excuse me, "Conan the Librarian" is about to start!
So are Phelous and Lupa married or not? They seem like a cute couple.
Oh and the animation in this movie looks worse then the CGI motion capture test I made with Blender3d and Kinect(using a mocap program called brekel).
You shut your dirty mouth. That's a good $65 million worth of effort up there on screen.
Irate Gamer jokes never get old
I wish someone had the balls to actually end the review in the first few minutes and then leave 20 minutes of black screen. That would be comedy gold.
Why does the dog sounds like Sam from Sam & Max
Saw it on Jon Tron's Youtube channel.
I didn't have to suffer internet troll Lupa
Dear Cinema Snob, although your work on crossovers is commendable, there are more important matters to discuss. According to Wikipedia, your posse missed what is apparently the WORST of the religious movies released this year, titled "Persecuted". It holds the coveted 0% spot on Rotten Tomatoes. It was released in July, presumably to a limited release, therefore you have to review it in a vlog format.
Also, can you review the "Atlas Shrugged" trilogy? =)
It probably didn't come to their town. Like Birdman, they might have to wait a while before it can grace their cinemas.
*Not that I'm comparing the two!
It was released to certain theatres in July. Any chance it had for a wide-release probably will never come, considering its late November, and the movie was shit.
Is it even possible to sit through the Atlas Shrugged trilogy? The first part alone felt longer than the book...
I can't wait for the next 5 parts of this crossover
Let's face it guys, multi-part crossovers are ruined!
Is is Chris Bores Day yet Brad? It only comes once a year.
I was gonna watch this video then I realized Lupa is in it.
I cant stand that verminous manipulative cunt.
To quote Kyle: "Haha, fuck you they're my friends."
You cold farted itch!
What the hell? Did she kill your favorite hooker? Chill the fuck out.
I'm guessing that SOMEBODY is still butthurt over the Spoony incident, like 2-3 years ago.
FFS, that wasn't even the reason he left TGWTG, yet Lupa still gets so much shit for it.
Personally, I feel that she shouldn't have stuck her nose into the incident with Noah & Hope and made it VERY public, but for God's sake, let the past rest.
Before this year, I thought that Lupa getting so pissed over three month old tweets or so (which to the best of my knowledge only happened once), but after seeing so many internet personalities getting outed for their inappropriate sexual behaviour.... I dunno. Hell, this happened before Spoony officially got diagnosed with bipolar and was swinging from manic to depressive.
Wow, the butthurt of these comments is amazing.
Yeah, did I miss something? I know P&L's style of humor isn't for everyone, but it seems like people are actually pissed off at them over something.
Welcome to the internet
Just the usual cult of personality bullshit. It's the only thing dumber about online reviews than "reviewer dibs".
Phelous is in the review? Ain't fucking watching. He's horrible.
Wow, this comment section is really quite negative toward Phelous and Lupa. Which is a shame because I find most of their work funny. But at the same time... Warning essay inbound.
I can understand it sort of. The problem is with how their styles overlap, and in this video in particular, it's a huge problem. Phelous uses anti-humor for his jokes and his delivery of that material is very strong. Lupa in her own work tends to use absurd hyperbole (closer to NC's style but less cartoonish and more out of left field), but when she works with Phelous she plays funny man to his straight man. Those works I don't enjoy quite as much as their own individual output, but I tend to enjoy them though sometimes it really falls flat (her work in bootleg zones tends to not be very enjoyable to me as a general rule but it's not the only series where it happens and not all bootleg zones with her are terrible). This team normally works pretty great when Brad joins because his work tends to be based in humorous reference and caricature. I will defend the nut job midnight screening as probably one of the best ones because it works pretty great. Everyone makes their own funny jokes but the plot works to keep them on rails. Birdemic is sort of different in the fact that Brad is more of a character in that one and less of a reviewer, from what I remember of it. This one though... I don't like it. Something's wrong. It feels like maybe the thing that goes wrong in the Phelous-Lupa duality extends to this team-up in the fact that a lot of the jokes in this one were Lupa acts zany, Brad and Phelous do the angry glare, and it doesn't come off as funny because Lupa's bit was stupid but funny and it just feels like you're killing her comedy. However then only those bits would be bad. I would also argue that Brad's lines aren't as good in this as they were in other things. It almost seemed like Phelous wrote some of Brad and Lupa's lines, but I can't be sure of that. I think that because some of the jokes sounded very much in his style, but without his delivery they fell flat. I find the jokes clever in the first ep mostly, but I don't find them funny...I don't know if it's the fact that Brad is "on the couch" as opposed to being a sort of free entity or what, but somethings wrong. The jokes aren't good, the movie is so stupid that "this movie is dumb" jokes don't work because we take them as fact. This review and it's conclusion, which can be seen on Phelous' site, just aren't funny to me. I hate engaging in hyperbole, but to me this is the Caddyshack II of Brad's output and I hate saying that because I love his reviews, whether the off the cuff midnight screenings or the snobs or his spoof work. This is something that should have been funny somewhere along the line but in some way it just ended up going belly up. I can try to dissect it to find out why (and the length of this comment indicates I have), but it's still dead.
And that's sad because I was really looking forward to this one. Man I really hope that if you guys do another one that it's funnier than this one.
And hopefully writing an essay in the comments section doesn't get people pissed off.
You know Brad didn't write the review, right? You should probably save the "this is Brad's Caddyshack II" for something he actually wrote and directed; this is like blaming him for To Boldly Flee.
I know that he didn't write this, or at least didn't write the others lines, but there's more to a video than writing. You make it sound like performers can't be judged based on their work, that the writing is the only facet that counts. Though I truthfully meant that statement in the way that Harold Raimis is only sort of connected to Caddyshack II, Brad seems to not be as much to blame for this anyways, but still this input did not stop it from being terrible. I probably should have said that up top, but it was long enough already. To Boldly Flee is largely a Walker script with very little input from the others as to general plot points, character involvement, or basic plot function, with the involvement largely coming from suggesting lines and other such small forms of interaction. This is a much smaller scale affair where such interactions of "we keep doing this same joke over and over again, maybe we should cut some" are much more reasonable.
So with the above modified statement, I stand by it. This is probably one of the worst reviews he's ever been in, and no it's not because Lupa and Phelous are super unfunny people who drag down the glory that is Brad Jones. It's because most of his jokes aren't very good in this one, and the other two don't help.
Phelous is probably my second favorite TGWTG person. There are lots of fans of the Phelous!
you'd like to think that, wouldn't you?
First one to comment about Brad! Hey Brad, it was good to see you in this review! :)
That was very enjoyable.
Sorry, can't watch that. Can't stand Lupa's delivery and absolutely loathe Phelous'.
Yeah, also not sure why folks are going out of their way to post just to say that they're not watching it. If the video doesn't appeal to you for whatever reason, you can just, y'know, not watch it. It's not as if it's a new series that Brad requires your input on or something. Don't care for Lupa or Phelous? Skip the crossover! No reason for anyone to hear about it.
I can't believe I'm saying this, but this video was actually pretty good.
Brad is in this review?
Sorry then, I'm not watching.
:D Best comment so far. So obvious, but I didn't see it coming.
What's that? Oreo and Lloyd's not in this review? Pffeh I'll pass. -crosses arms- 0 stars for the absent Oreo and Lloyd cameo appearances.
LloydFan is in the comments?
... I am undecided on reading, until I know if it's the real LloydFan.
Wow...how ironic. The review is about as incoherent, rambling, and painfully unfunny as the movie they are reviewing itself seems.
GOOD LORD! This review was HORRIBLE to watch! I had to stop midway through. It was painful. Like Sara-watching-people-doing-embarassing-things painful.
While individually talented and funny, these three just couldn't get their act together for this one. And there's a part two!? Fuck. No. Thank You. I know Brad can riff with the best of them, but here his humour seemed to be a set a badly written gags. In fact, it feels like three otherwise funny people, who are funny in different ways, just crash-wrote a bunch of random jokes and posted a hasty first take edit.
Sorry guys, it sucked. It really, really did. But...try again?
Totally agree, except for the movie sucking part. My movie is amazing.
You know Brad didn't write it, right?
Actually...I didn't know that. I figured he wrote a few parts, and approved the rest. If a joke was not working or terrible, I think he would said so...unless he thought the crappy jokes would be edited out. My guess, it was a one off meet-n-riff, with phelous doing most of the editing of raw video.
I've never watched Phelous' or Lupa's works, but I concede they are popular/humerous in their own way...but perhaps not my brand of humour. Maybe it's Phelous' humour and "director's cut" that we're seeing since he has top billing.
30 years from now, there will surely be a "cinema-reviews" snob who reviews obscure nostalgic-movie-reviews from decades past, and this one will surely be in the top 10 of the worst obscure nostalgic-movie-reviews of 2014.
Awful review. Foodfight! is the greatest, most ambitious animated movie ever made. I should know, I starred in it.
Brad and Phelan have the same angry face.
Why is Brad getting blamed for the writing when he didn't even make the video, and he was just in it?
I'd presume because he decided to post it here anyways.
He also presumably submitted some lines for the script. Just because it's Phelous' video doesn't mean Phelous wrote this by himself.
I came up with the "you better hide!" line. lol I do like how you act as if you were there on both this and To Boldly Flee. =P
Anyways, I had fun being in this, and part of the fun of doing crossovers like this is seeing the jungle of comments. I'm not gonna lie, this is the reaction we were going for when we did our Troll 4 video lol.
Not sure if real Brad cause his name isn't highlighted. Eh even if it's a troll using Brad's name, points salient enough.
I assume that a lot of lines in most simple crossovers (the ones between a couple of people), are submitted communally because during the "shut up and talk" and post-magfest vlog, it seemed like they discussed sending emails back and forth on videos. I assume that can't happen when more than a dozen people participate. I mean I'm willing to believe if given evidence to the contrary, but I assume such.
Also I really enjoyed the troll 4 review, but this one... it's just not good. Something's not enjoyable here, which is a shame because normally your collaborations with Phelous and Lupa are pretty good.
Now I'll go back to enjoying your other videos and stop being an entitled asshole who thinks he knows everything about you and be the guy who laughs at the third Kirk Cameron review.
I really enjoyed the informational part of the review in the beginning.
Phelous ate my sandwich and Lupa ran over my foot with her massive yellow Hummer.
Lots of people seem to be disturbed by the "beastiality" angle (pft, whatever, Sunshine is like 15% Furry; it's like these people just got no the internet yesterday), but what about the whole clearly-Sunshine-is-jailbait thing? She looks and sounds like a high schooler at most, and Duff herself would have been underage when this was originally planned for release...
Anyway, liked Brad fine, but I did not enjoy the other people's performances much. Then again, I feel much the same way about most of the TGWTG people.
Holy shit this review is just as bad as the actual movie, that's amazing. Great job Phelous and red-haired girl, who've reminded me of why I don't ever watch your stuff ever.
Sorry Mr. Jones, I tried to watch this but it was so awful I had to stop twice before ultimately giving up halfway in. Oh well.
I liked the video. I can see why some people here might hate it because it's true that Brad's comedic style is different in this video. It's not surprising at all since Phelous wrote the review. I personally don't mind. What I like about it is that it really shows that they're three friends having fun.
On a completely related note: It seems that the RIfftrax crew is watching your reviews, brad. They riffed "fun in balloon land". How do you feel about that?
Okay, I've been meaning to ask this for a long time. What is the origin of "What are yoooouuuu doing here?"? I hear it all the time from different TGWTG people, but don't know where it comes from.
Irate Gamer's review of Monster Party
Why is so many people complaining about these cross-overs!?
I find it mind boggling that people are sitting in front of their computers and saying these stupid hateful things to the people who are giving them hours of free entertainment. Off course we all have the right to express our thoughts and feelings but why do we have to be so uncivilized about it?
If you get so damn angry why the hell are you watching it in the first place? The internet is full of reviewers! Maybe you should get out there and find someone who do something more similar to your taste. Or even better you can make your own videos to satisfy the demand of those who share similar thoughts and values as you. Be the hero that you demand others to be. But if you simply sit there expecting someone else to make your dream videos you are truly a sad human being who are living in a self centered fantasy world. Find what you want or create what you want! Never demand others to do it for you because you know what? They are not sellouts or idiots or anything like it just because they want to create the videos that they like to do. People are not your slaves they are individual human beings just as much as you and In this case at least they are doing something other than complaining about other peoples work.
That said! I have enjoyed all of these cross-overs! And to be honest I hope they do more of them. Brad and Lupa are my two favorite reviewers and even if I rarely watch Phelan´s own work I have always felt that he have a little something going for him.
I got myself a few good laughs while watching this video and best of all it was for free. So for all the free hours of entertainment which these people have given me trough out the years I am nothing but grateful.
And even if this video would be a waste of time for me and not funny or interesting... So what? They do so much other great videos for me to enjoy.
Love you to death Brad, but I can't stand Pheolus and Lupa. I used to try and enjoy their stuff like 3 years ago, but it all fell apart once I discovered much better producers, who are actually, you know... funny. Like thecinemasnob.com
Now every time they pop up they just come off as an annoyances.
Sorry, couldn't watch this.
Looking forward to more of your videos. Cheers!
The comments are much funnier than the review itself. god damn that's alot of really, really strange anger. i get that some people didnt find this to be a masterpiece equivalent to the mona lisa, but get over yourselves.
