As ghost writer on To Boldly Flee, I was honored when Lewis asked if I could contribute jokes to his long awaited film. Unfortunately, I didn't have the time, as I was in the middle of my missionary trip with Pastor Franklin. As much as I like writing movies, teaching children about Jesus' love is my true pastime.
I... don't want to be the first one to say something negative. So I'll be silent.
We're in the same boat buddy, Personally I think it would look better it the editing was more tight and some color correction. But who knows, perhaps it'll look better once it's out. I like AT4W so I'll support it even if it's bad
Well, I can confirm that color correction wasn't completed when I made the trailer - just wanted the trailer out two weeks before the release and people have been waiting long enough for the thing. ^_^
Not sure what you mean by tighter editing when, well, it's a trailer, which only gives brief glimpses of the film, but s'all good. ^_^
Dont worry about color correction, Louis, its just a way to make a movie look more professional by adding obvious filters.
Really the color and white balance looks fine, the only issue i have is the flat camera work and lighting and that the camera is obviously shooting in 30fps video as opposed to set to 24p.
Granted finding a camera on the consumer market these days with a 24p option is a bitch and requires a massive amount of research, but i digress.
Though props to the green screen work, while the lighting is flat it SEEMS so far you guys understand what a fill light does....or you have really good ceiling lights. either way the matting is pretty good.
@Linkara, good to know the color correction will be improved when it's released.
By "tighter editing" I mean the trailer was edited very sloppy and made the product look sloppy. I hope I didn't offend you, I used to edit professionally, specifically trailers, PSAs, and Educational shorts. So I guess I was looking at this through different eyes.
Welp, time to binge watch all of Linkara's videos again.
Wow, this looks even worse than I thought it would. And that's saying something because my expectations were pretty low to begin with.
Certainly doesn't look as too crowded as To Boldly Flee, so maybe there's a chance Linkara's movie will outdo all the other TGWTG anniversary movies!
I would be very surprised if it didn't.
Im just glad it isnt 3 hours of people in dougs house with their arms crossed.
Congratulations to Lewis and everyone involved! Brad sure made it sound like a lot of fun to film.
Sometimes I wonder why they don't try to make it more grounded and better, look to Paranoia and The Cinema Snob Move that are enjoyable if you never heard of Brad and cia or is into the all vlog / critic movies.
Anyway, I hope the best for the movie and I hope the fans of Linkara enjoy it!
Well, I think the movies themselves reflect the types of shows we do. The anniversary movies are very much the Nostalgia Critic's babies and are reflected in their content - Kickassia is a big Looney Toons cartoon while Suburban Knights & To Boldly Flee parody movies the Critic likes or has reviewed.
Brad's movies are a reflection of giallo and horror movies, which definitely are things the Snob focuses on (plus just stuff Brad loves).
AT4W focuses on comic books, in particular superhero stuff, so its storylines have always been about sci-fi and fantasy to many a degree.
And thanks! ^_^
Lewis, you have earned such admiration from me over the years for so frequently showing up in comments section beneath your own work, often responding to negative comments, and yet never coming off as thin-skinned. You are a model for how to respond to criticism with thoughtfulness and integrity, not for the sake of damage control, but for providing genuine explanations for your creative motivations and opinions. I salute you, an island of reason in this sea of chaos and dick jokes called the internet.
This movie looks awesome Linkara, I am actually wanting to see this movie only because I feel like Nash and Brad (besides you) are going to really be hilarious!
So who is Brad playing in this movie? I mean. I never imagined the Cinema Snob saying "Damn B, that's cold." That's like something one of the Bros would say.
I'm playing the same character I play in the anniversary movies.
Ohhh. That makes sense.
I love your acting by the way. You're convincing as a homicidal pimp, a lonely video gamer, and a Vietnam veteran. That kind of acting takes some serious skill.
I mean me? I can't act that well at all. Apparently whenever I play a role in a film, people always say that they find me terrifying. And that's not even intentional! I guess it just must be my deep voice.
So...Bradikin Snobwalker, then?
Bunch of assholes in these comments, I tell ya.
This movie should be called "Assholes in Space"
wasnt that the alternate title for the JJ Abrams star trek films? or am i thinking of the new star wars movie?
The first time my girlfriend and I made love, it was while Atop the Fourth Wall was playing. Needless to say, we plan on banging hard when this movie comes out.
Here's my question: is my nerdy review show about comic books that arousing or is the banging to distract yourselves from how awful it is? XD
We like to bang during the things that we love. I can't tell you how many movie theaters we got kicked out of when Fury Road came out.
Hey Noodles, you didn't bang during Mr. Popper's Penguins by chance?
This actually looks... really damn good. Honestly, Linkara's videos have always had this unique sense of humility and heart to them, and that seems to be shining through here. I wish you all the best.
Eh, not really a fan of his "story line" stuff. Why can't people just review things and then make separate videos for other stuff?
so would we call this the TGWTG anniversary movie thing? even though its linkara's film seems it has nearly the same people in the other vids.
I'd say no. Lewis keeps his stories in the same continuity with that series but aside from that it's all independent from Doug Walker's stuff. He'll use some of the characters and concepts brought up in them, but it's all him.
Could it be that reviewers tend to write way too much dialogue when doing a movie? This trailer gives me that impression..., people talking, people talking, people talking, little else.
Makes sense in a review, but in a movie?
And I hate to say it, but Brads non-review stuff suffers from exactly the same problem, shows like the Reviewers or Lloyd or even the Snob Movie feel way too talky to me.
There's plenty of dialogue driven shows and movies. Not everything out there is an action movie.
Well, I kind of see why Brad's movies are talky: it's clear that his writing has been influenced by Kevin Smith and Tarantino. But I get what you mean. Sometimes these movies aren't very visual. They really should let a picture (an image, if you will) say a thousand words.
"Sometimes these movies aren't very visual"
This is exactly what I wanted to say, thank you.
Can't wait for the Midnight Screenings of this!
Yeah! Dr. Insano.
I was hoping he can rehash the role of Terl.
I was at the screening at Youmacon in Detroit and I enjoyed the movie. Everyone you could tell had fun making the film and everyone was good. It sucks to see people already being negative about it. Lewis did a great job with it and it showed during the panel when he talked about it. Haters are always going to hate but with the effort that was put into it I respect everyone who was involved. :)
I'm a little bit glad the Walker Bros don't appear to be in this. Almost every time I see Doug in a new thing, I just get the sense that he's become a bit of a mean egotistical jerk and it instantly makes me want to stop watching whatever it is.
Doug Walker does appear in the trailer (around 00:36), although it doesn't look like he plays a very big role overall.
I've seen several of the people in this give way better performances elsewhere. Even in the anniversary stuff.
Does this movie take place in the same universe as To Boldly Flee?
Yes. All the anniversary movies are canon in the AT4W storyline.
You know what, Linkara?
You're awesome for responding so much.
As I said on Lewis's site, this should be interesting. I'm also thinking that once all parts are out, I'll binge the whole thing.
"You will laugh, you will cry, you will wet your pants."
I hope Lupa gave away this film's tagline. =P
It nice to see everyone all together again. It's like the good old days. :)
Looks like shit....
Oh what am I saying, this is going to be fun!
Looks awful. I'm a big fan of AT4W but I've found myself skipping his skits for a long time now. He's failed to craft a compelling story within them and they certainly aren't funny sketches you can just enjoy in passing.
The movie just feels like another TGWTG anniversary deal. In that it will probably have a couple of decent moments but ultimately stand the test of time as being something that's far less interesting than the weekly shows.
I watch the trailer hoping it might change my mind but frankly it was boring. Hopefully the fans of his skits enjoy this. It was no doubt a lot of work to put together.
Uh oh, better watch your tongue there, dude! No one ever speaks against Lewie the Lovehog! You might hurt his delicate feewings and get blocked on his shitty website!
Almost like I want my site to not have jerky people on it. =)
And yet critical people are still allowed through provided they're not being jerks, because my site does not have a big sign saying "jerks welcome." ^_^
And even still, people here have been saying they're not that enthusiastic and I respect that, the original poster included. They stated their opinion without being insulting about it and it's all good. ^_^
Bradley, I'm disappointed neither you or Linkara contacted me. I could've helped with set design or editing.
Additionally, I'm an expert at Photoshop and could have digital slimmed down Angry Joe, MarzGurl, Nash, Linkara, Spoony, and Lupa to more appropriate sizes. I'd even throw in LordKat for free.
Hey, it comes out on Sonic 2sday! Neat!
Huh, going by the preview photos I thought Brad was going to be the villain not part of the good guys. Either way, looking forward to it.
To Boldly Flee is getting a remake?
Stopped watching after the "Holy Terror" review. It's one of my favorite comics of all time. Unless the movie is him reviewing another bad The Thing comic I doubt I'll check it out. (unless 80's Dan is in it).
Damn, I forgot how much I love Spoony. I really miss him and his reviews.
Jesus Christ on a Cross.
So, TGWTG is officially a relic of a bygone age apart from Brad.
Well, yeah, especially since it hasn't been called TGWTG for over a year now.
I don't care, Lovhaug. It's all fucking awful and these movies are depressing.
It is kind of interest watching this first generation of internet celebrities falling apart in various ways.
If you say so. I don't see us falling apart at all and we're still continuing, I've still put out a new episode every week for the last seven years, the people who have seen the movie so far have been happy with it, don't see how they're depressing, but whatever floats your boat. =)
WTF Spoony? How'd you manage to get that dude involved ... in anything...
I didn't think he still made things
People need to calm down a bit. Can't we at least wait to see the actual movie before saying how terrible it is? And if you really don't want to watch it, just don't watch it.
Well, some of us might watch out of morbid curiosity at how bad it might be. These reviewers make a living off of riffing on shit, so it's only fair if we get to riff on theirs.
props to louis, his movie looks like its among the best of the CA movies....
But...Can we have an intervention where all the channel awesome people get together and receive a lecture on the use of boom mics, 24p frame rates, and the use of a lighting kit?
Maby throw in a book on cinematography.
Because this movie looks and sounds flat.
But still, credit where credit is due....props to Louis for going at it like a trooper.
