It's one year later for Andy and Jeff. The Messiah is dead, and the boys dream of filling his shoes. That is if the can stop arguing over whose turn it is to film in the basement.

I mean this in a good way, but this episode of The Reviewers reminded me off Richard Linklater's early work.

I have nothing to do with this site, but it's my understanding that it's very hard for them to schedule everybody together to get something like this and 80s Dan accomplished. Either way, they look great and I can't wait for more!

I'm working on the next episode right now, this show will have a regular season of episodes; not irregular like the other shows. Granted, the season will be short, but if it goes over well, there will be another season of episodes next year.

Ah the classic director Brad trademark of character A placing arm over character B's shoulders and explaining things to them my favorite :)

Wouldn't it be cool if the Nostalgia Critic turned out to be the reincarnation of the messiah? Cool right?!

Looking forward to the next episode following the Rick Head where it turns out Dave is a genuinely nice guy who has to play a huge asshole character because all his other ventures bombed, trapped in a hopeless cycle of hypocrisy and depression.

Brad... Dave as The Rickhead is still, IMHO, one of your finest (and that includes funniest) ideas of all time. It's impossible to see anyone else play a parody of those YouTube "ranter" types anywhere close to such a degree of perfection. If there was a Rickhead spin-off on YouTube consisting exclusively of Rickhead rant videos, I would watch every single one of those.

Mad love and respect to you and all of your friends/performers. All of you are doing fantastic work. And Brad, your writing just keeps getting better with every endeavor. Don't ever stop.

Loved it, absolutely loved it. Brad looks like the kinda guy I would love getting my drugs from, I really really like the editing (sharp and perfectly on time; this is something that a lot of internet content creators cannot do and it kills their work for me) and the writing, well, it is exactly what I expected from a SG production.

Maybe I just had to high expectations for this, because I’ve been looking forward to a new episode, but I didn’t think it was that funny. It felt like you tried to cram too much exposition, half-baked jokes and other minor characters into this episode.
Reply
Brad
6/9/2014 02:21:56 am
The Sports Injury Critic and The Modern Movie Cynics aren't really minor characters, they're just quick fake shows within the show, like Count Thomas Howell's and Space Lancer Steve's show. Future episodes probably won't even show those other shows, as there will be other fake shows the characters will be watching. Not all the time, but every now and then to show this particular world of videos.

Interesting you feel that way about The Messiah's speaking, seeing how you couldn't hear any of his lines since they were muted stock footage with voice over narration over it.

If you knew what this was satirizing, you'd know exactly why they behave either arrogant or like children. Andy's character is pretty much Kyle Kallgren's twitter account come to life, and the Michelle character appears to represent one of the HR people at Channel Awesome (I can't remember her name), going by some of the behind the scenes stories from the anniversary films.

Huh. I thought Brad didn't get involved in all that TGWTG drama. Lived through it, sure, but he always seemed more adult than most of the rest of them. I haven't watched this yet, though, so I might be taking your post too seriously.
Mikey Wan
6/9/2014 05:07:09 am
@Lothos You should really watch it, because it could be open to interpretation on who is based on who, as Brad has never said who the characters are based on. It is however a very good satire of Internet Reviewers and comes across less mean spiritied and just Brad having some fun at the expense of his own occupation.

Wait... That kind of camera work is a conscious stylistic choice by you as a director? Wow... I love your stuff, but that's horrible.
Brad
6/9/2014 06:01:40 am
Conscious stylistic choice? Not really, that's a bit of an over exaggeration, I wouldn't go that far. My point is that the stuff I've directed all look like they're from a SOV director because they are. They all don't look that radically different from each other. Look at this and Hooker with a Heart of Gold, and you can pretty easily tell I directed both.

I really liked this episode (and the first is very strong as well), mainly due to how deeply Andy and Jeff are entrenched in their characters that they've developed back stories as rationalizations for what they themselves need in the real world. Keep up the great work everyone involved! Thanks for another awesome show.

About:"The Reviewers" is a new show written and directed by Brad Jones. Andy (Brian Lewis) and Jeff (Jake Norvell) are two down on their luck roommates who decide their best possible career choice is to be Internet Reviewers.
