While I'm anxious to donate to a Brad Jones production and the premise sounds intriguing - plus if David Gobble's character is going to be anything like Rickhead from The Reviewers this is going to be a blast - the perks however need some serious re-working as there's barely anything. I mean none of them even include the finished film on DVD or even t-shirts and other miscellaneous merchandise this kind of crowd-funding projects usually have. Also $500 to have my name in the credits?! I got that into the Kyle Kallgren directed short film Election Cycle only for ten bucks!

I'll donate something but with bare bones perks like these I don't see myself giving much (also because I'm not a rich man but that's besides the point). Good to see another feature length movie from Team Snob though!

Dave is literally playing The Rickhead in the movie :)

Also, there is a perk for a DVD copy of the film.

Sorry you don't like the price of the Credit Name (which is actually $250), but many crowdfunding campaigns, with the budget that we have, set that particular perk at 100 or 200+. Given our budget, if it were a $10 perk, the credits would be way way WAY too long.

Sorry, my bad, It seems that I saw some earlier version of the campaign page (only two people had donated at the time) as now it shows the DVD copy perk and the reduced price on the credit perk. To be honest I don't really care about the other merchandise as long as the physical copy of the movie is available. Does international shipping cost extra?

The credits being way way way too long could be funny...

In other crowdfunded movies I've seen they just make the credit incredibly tiny and scroll through the massive list at the very end.

So, the end result could be...mediocre?

On the positive side--and I say this as someone who is generally OK with Doug, but totally understands why others see him as irritating--there's a good chance he won't be hogging screen time 99% of the movie.

Last I heard, the sheer amount of footage that needed to be reshot basically means he'd have to start from scratch, especially given some time has passed. I think he still planned to make it, though. Patreon backers might know more.

I, on the other hand, find the "religious movie" episodes to be some of your best work, not because they're funnier, but because these films NEED to be torn apart, on a critical level yes, but also on a humourous level. Something as pandering as GND, or as dangerous as War Room, need to be mocked to show people that just being a religious movie doesn't make it GOOD, and that a lot of these films fail even on a religious level and become propaganda, not a sincere exploration of issues.

You're doing god's work, man. Carry on.

I'd love to see a spoof of God's Not Dead, but honestly I think it's impossible to make a spoof of it that isn't just showing the film in its entirety, it's pretty much already I'd expect from a spoof of the genre.

and I speak as someone who strongly disbelieves in the Anti-Theism that's being passed off as Atheism these days.

Besides the fact that the movie can easily be resolved by telling the staff that forsaking Christianity is a required part of the course when A) That's illegal as hell and B) It's a philosophy class, according to Philosophy the idea that the world isn't a hallucination created by The Evil Genius can't be ruled out, so why the fuck could any one religion be as well.

Too many things in the movie are just priceless

Like
-Pretend the Duck Dynasty family

-Did the professor just DIE? Well he was an atheist, so we can be apathetic as hell. I mean it's not like Christianity is founded on the idea of Empathy towards even people you dislike or anything

-Liberal Girl gets cancer, but she was so determined to reject a political party that didn't want her to have rights instead of just automatically surrendering everything she believed in, so she dies alone instead of with friends... That's the entire story arc. So... does this movie only believe in Old Testament God?

-Yes don't give any actual reasons for the Professor to convert like.. using many of the philosophical arguments his class should be teaching to give some sign of God or having him witness a miracle or supernatural event that defies Scientific Explanation.. you know like a lot of people in real life who converted from Atheism to Religion in real life.... Have it come under the threat of death...

-The Professor is an Atheist, because he hates God? Doesn't something have to exist in that person's paradigm for them to hate it?

-Asian Guy and his Father can't come to a decision about whether or not God exists without help from a white authority figure, you know because that's just White Man's Burden (A Movie in the 21st Century, Ladies and Gentlemen)

-Christian Girl with Bible and Crucifix tells Muslim Girl with hijab not to have that stuff in public because it's offensive... Movie fails to understand the irony in this.

-None of the Minority Characters at all are shown in a positive light

I'm just glad the movie doesn't tackle LGBT issues... Can't wait for God's Not Dead 3 where we see a Transgender Support Group and all it is is just swapping photographs they've taken at Target Bathrooms..... That's so something this movie franchise would do

When I saw the Duck Dynasty "actors" I pretended they were Kirk Cameron droning about the swaddling cloth, which made their scenes easier to stomach.

Basically at some point for Nostalgia Critic it stopped being about his (very genuine) love for film making after pretty much creating an entire genre of entertainment and become a lot about placating his own ego... Many of his former co-workers left him, a lot of allegations were made. I was never apart of his staff so I can't comment on which allegations were true and in the interest of not starting any rumors I won't post any of the ones I've heard.

Phelous specifically seems to have a lot of negative things to say about the experience of working with Doug.

Even today, Doug just has this "Oh yeah, I'm the man!" thing about him.

It doesn't help that he now has a black co-star and in this Trump Is Running For President Political Climate acknowledging that black people even exist means that any blacks mentioned are "pure tokens" and that the whites who mention them are "racial traitors"

Now the black guy in the AVGN movie, now THERE was a Token. (Seriously, that was so random... "You know the black friend AVGN has? The one he DEFINITELY HAD in videos before this and ALWAYS DOES in videos after this... the one taking the place of his actual friend Mike who isn't in the movie at all? This is not a shameless way to look more PC, also we have a girl co-star as well.... that should make the ladies happy but to show how insincere I am about it I'm going to have her turn out to be a fake girl gamer!"

(I really hated the AVGN Movie)

Except "Mike" was never in any AVGN video except in the role of a character (like the Joker). AVGN never had any friend at all in any of the videos, white or black. So your argument falls apart.

7/14/2016 10:53:33 pm

All I see here is a bunch of drama.

I don't care.

I like people who do things that I want to see and provide me with entertainment. Brad, Phelous, Allison, and Doug all fall into that category. For that matter, so does the AVGN, since you brought him up. I like and support all of their stuff. The rest just is silly drama that is none of my business. It's not your business, either.

JayRam
7/15/2016 02:44:00 pm

In regards to James' movie: you're really digging for shit that simply isn't there.

Besides, what's the point in bringing it up in the first place? It's got NOTHING to do with neither Brad, this site, nor JESUS, BRO. So, move on.

Trikucian
7/16/2016 06:39:00 pm

Dude, it's a movie, the script from the movie has no connection to the AVGN show. And the "black guy" wasn't a token, he was a legitimate main character. And he even gets the girl in the end. His skin color isn't even really brought up as a thing in the movie. He's just any other character, a character who has a ton of lines and a ton of action in the movie.

I agree, I love the premise, but seeing anyting Nostalgia Critic related just makes me think "Wait is it 2016 or 2006?"

*walks outside*

"Okay what political party is Trump associated with? Democrats or Republicans? Republicans? Oh so it IS 2016? Okay... I wasn't sure, Nostalgia Critic seems to think that people are still fans of his. What's sadder is so does AVGN apparently."

That said the Santa Christ bit is geniunely pretty funny and we had Spoony in The Cinema Snob Movie and he wasn't a bad actor in that. I'd feel better if Doug was just playing a character instead of one of HIS characters, but eh... Santa Christ in a Christian Propaganda Spoof... eh it works.

Yeah... Doug Walker really needs to just... stop.

He needs to just stop. His fifteen minutes are over and he doesn't realize that. I still watch Phelous and Cinema Snob though. Mainly because they just do the show, they don't do any of the self oralsex olympics Doug does.

I dunno I can respect people a lot more when they just do their thing, than when they think they're "SO BADASS!" for doing their thing. Humility makes all the difference in the world.

Like... a bad movie or game is bad... but a bad game that breaks the fourth wall constantly to talk about how it's just "So damn good" or a bad movie that sets up for a sequel that the studio can't be serious about making, or worse a bad either that does both (Like Boo Bunny Plague or Limbo Of The Lost)..... just adds that extra level of "There we go"

It's why I cringe when I see the countless amounts of stories and games that say "Volume 1" or "Part 1", when you know damn well there's never going to be a part 2.

I'm a writer, when I released a book as part 1, I didn't do so till Part 2 was DONE and I had a release date set aside for it

I'm afraid I have to agree with you, as much as I disagree with the philosophy. Malcolm is one hell of a guy both on the screen and off when I met him in Chicagos con. I think he's too good for second billing because he would at least make one hell of a voice actor, at the very least. You also see his "token" status on some of the behind-the-scenes, where the Walker's dad brings up his race right the fuck out of nowhere, which I suppose it's a relic from an older time, but it is still uncomfortable.
Also, we know that Lloyd is the Daniel Day-Lewis of feline theatre and if they cameo him, we're talkin' Empire Strikes Back script security here. I have it on good authority that after Grumpy Cat failed audition, Brad travelled to Italy to hand deliver Lloyd the script, where he was under the guise of a modest cobbler, but please don't quote me on that.

I must say, I love the premise, but hate that these are the weakest backer rewards that I have ever seen. A special thank you video that can be put on youtube?

Please for less than it took to be in the credits, I got my brain in a jar in a Psychonauts Level. That said, I may still chip in anyway because I legitimately want to see this movie happen. It reminds me of a project I thought of doing but never started on in which its a fake 80's Propaganda Film where Paganism and Homosexuality are the normal and the Christian kid is the problem child who "wants to bring a GIRL! to prom, despite being a boy!" shot in the style of something like say Rock It's Your Decision and other propaganda type pieces...

I mainly had problems coming up with a script that was wacky enough to be funny, but tongue in cheek enough to be taken semi-seriously.
