God, I remember felling embarrassed for the guy at the end attempting to do a Bat Credit Card joke. It was like 2 minutes of awkwardly sputtered nonsense leading up to a joke no one thought was funny. I felt so sorry for the guy. He had probably been working up the courage to say that for the past hour, and then when he finally did it, it bombed so hard.

Ahhh this is why I hate Q&A panels. There are a lot of audience members that just should not be asking questions and don't get me wrong, I am one of those people. But once you give everybody in the room an open mic, you have to prepare yourself for the worst.

To be fair to that guy, it happens to everybody. It's normal to be awkward in front of a large group of people. Trying to tell a long complicated joke at that moment is like swallowing a live hand grenade.

Cool. So I am not the only one who loves Scrappy Doo :-)

I love Scrappy too!

"Scooby Doo Meets The Boo Brothers" is my favorite Scooby Doo movie/episode/whatever, in the entire Scooby franchise. As a kid, I found that Scooby Doo Meets The Boo Brothers to be the funniest, eeriest, and overall most plot engaging Scooby Doo film ever, and Scrappy was awesome in it!

The thing I always liked about Scrappy, was that his great intellect mixed with his cocky nature made for the perfect Scooby Doo character. You can take out Fred, Velma, and Daphne, and just include Scrappy Doo instead. He works as a perfect replacement for the gang, and I hate the episodes where he and the entire gang are together because his chemistry is not any good with Daphne, Fred, and Velma. Whenever Scrappy had the notion to do something that would take the plot to a dangerous, sudden turn, he would always get stopped by either Fred, Daphne, or Velma. This caused him to be seen as a nuisance, when in reality the real nuisances were Daphne, Velma, and Fred.

Scrappy Doo was in my opinion one of the greatest characters in all of Scooby Doo.

The greatest being The Ghost of Captain Cutler of course.

Seriously, that character is reviled for no goddman reason.

Bleh. All of their brains put together doesn't even equal half the intelligence of mine. I don't know why anyone would bother with this gauche drivel. Watch one of my panels for true intellect. Goodbye now.

Why do I get the feeling that the former child actor with the Taco Bell and hooker was Corey Feldman? That so sounds like him.

I got the impression that it was Edward Furlong, because of the interview that Jerrid did with him a while back.

I doubt it was Cory Feldman. He seems like he would keep a lower profile then that. And he is a recovering drug addict. Recovering drug addicts that want to stay sober do not do risky behavior like pick up hookers.

It's a good thing I just happened to watch Hot Rod this week. Otherwise, I wouldn't have gotten the taco versus grilled cheese question.

What's the deal with the guy with the Fez?
What's with all the people at these cons who have no sense of how to behave in public?

1. The fez thing must be reference to Doctor Who, I would imagine.

2. Speaking as someone with an autism-spectrum disorder, I would say either that and/or Aspergers.

This particular guy might have some kind of autism/Aspergers thing going on, but from my experience at cons, there are some people who just want attention (sometimes from the "celebrities" or just in general).

Linkara doesn't get Garth Ennis...Oh the irony.

The thing about Garth Ennis is that his comics are basically him ranting about things he hates with very black and blue humor mixed in. His fanbase comes from said yelling(which his audience finds quite entertaining) and a taste for such very dark humor(like getting killed on a hunting trip while shitting in the woods).

As I said quite ironic.

"like getting killed on a hunting trip while shitting in the woods"

How is that funny? Seriously, I love black humor, but this joke is lost on me. Is that because of the expression "does a bear shit in the woods?". Because the joke is still lost on me.

This particular joke has many variants but in the case cited, it was a case of shooting before looking. Woops!

I don't understand how the joke is lost to you though. Any chance you could give me an example of black humor you actually like. Maybe that'll help.

John K
7/13/2014 09:54:19 am

In comics, two of the best writers of black comedy are Pete Abrahms from Sluggy Freelance and Brain Clevinger of 8-bit theater. Both of these guys would write some of the most sadistically funny strips I have ever read.

What turns me off from Preacher, however, is the premises seems entirely mean-spirited and vindictive. This could work if the author was aiming for satire but killing things and people you don't like isn't my idea of good satire.

Bloody Murder
7/13/2014 03:11:06 pm

I see. When it comes to black comedy, I tend to prefer it to be very black. Like the one where a mobster gets fucked to death by a demon with a NINETEEN INCH COCK.(That's from Hellblazer, Son of Man arc). After seeing this aforementioned death by giant cock rape a fellow mobster says, "I quit" before killing himself. Heh, good times.

As for Preacher, it's not a satire(at least I never saw it as that). Was always more of an amoral western to me. It's not so much satire as(being an atheist) Garth Ennis loves to shit on Christianity. I'd say organized religion but I don't recall him shitting on any other.

By the way, if you want satire, I'd say go read The Pro. Heh, that was a fun one.

Jesus Christ these are some of the most offensive comments I've seen on this website.

Can't we all just say something nice for once? These people are all trying to have a good time, they're not autistic, they're just gutsy and filled with the joy that comes with seeing their idols.

If I was there, I would have been excited too!

Now please please stop with all these "THIS GUY SUCKS" or "THE AUDIENCE SUCKS" comments, they're insulting not to mention annoying.

Now, for me to bring up something about this con itselt (not many people have yet):

Who else thought it was awesome to have Doug's dad at the con? I mean DUDE that's so cool! And his insight on things were really funny.

By the way, I enjoyed Brad's Harrison Ford impression, but I got the feeling that he felt uncomfortable doing it.

The guy that walked up and interrupted the panel TWICE was rude, disrespectful and creepy. Likewise, the guy who made a big production out of asking a question was rude, wasted everyone's time, and was an attention whore. The guy at the end who made the "joke" also wasted everyone's time and failed at seeking attention for himself.
The only reason you would defend them is if you're trolling or maybe you were one of them.

Reply
Rhody
7/13/2014 06:03:36 am

Actually it's neither... I'm just defending them because... isn't it obvious that they were all just trying to have a little fun?

I thought the guy who made a big production out of asking a question was hilarious, and he ended up asking a good question. That was gutsy and I have to give him credit for it.

And no, I wasn't at the con, I don't go to cons, mostly because I can't afford to.

I guess I'm just super chill. : /

Dudeson
7/13/2014 07:46:39 am

Oh come on, people are allowed to have some fun, you can't label creepy and attention whores just because you don't agree with what the did. Loosen up a bit.

LloydFan
7/13/2014 08:11:16 am

People are allowed to have "fun" by being rude to people? OK, whatever floats your boat. It's also why I don't go to these things anymore.

Dudeson
7/13/2014 10:41:02 am

Actually I think that guy was autistic, I remember him acting shifty multiple times during the con

Rhody
7/13/2014 03:08:25 pm

No, even if he was a little shifty, I highly doubt he was autistic; I think he was just extremely nervous.

It takes guts to stand up in front of a crowd of people, and talk to one of your greatest idols. The reason why it's hard, is the fear of being picked apart by jackasses (cough, like some of the people here in the comments) because of having any form of imperfection INCLUDING NERVOUSNESS.

Dudes, if you were there, your ass would be sweating as if it were sitting on the surface of the sun.

People may be going over the top throwing around "autism" and such but that guy must have some kind of social disorder. Sure, as some people have pointed out, he may have been nervous, but that's no excuse for treating the panel like performing animals rather than actual people. The lack of etiquette and sense of entitlement displayed was pretty unnerving. Also the guy making a a big thing out of asking his question came off kind of cringe-worthy too.
