The reasons they called him Caius in the movie, might be that the G can be pronounced as a C in Latin, because of that there are several ways of writing that name: Gaius, Caius, Gajus and Cajus.

From what I remember from classical Latin the symbol "C" only represents "G" in written language (interchangable), but you still say the sound "guh" as in "guns"; the reader was just expected to know the difference. It's been years though since I've studied, so I could be wrong. If I'm right, the re-dubbing is even more of a blunder.

I kept expecting Film Brain to suddenly scream out "symbolism!" at a random moment in the rest of the review. Caligula is a bit too disturbing for my tastes, but I enjoyed the review. Laughed like crazy in the Brad and Jerrid episode at the end.

You put so much sweet side notes in this review, I can't pick a favorite!
Anyway, you made me remember that I saw this movie (most likely cencored) on german television late at night when I was about 12. Mum and Dad should have paid for a babysitter. Or locked the TV somehow.

Now, Snob - you know good and well those two lesbians didn't piss away their careers (at least not right away): Lori Wagner and Anneka Di Lorenzo were in MESSALINA, EMPRESS OF ROME, better known as... CALIGULA II. One o' those Italian faux-sequels you love so much, and was actually released before the original was anywhere.

Once again, awesome review.
I find it surprising that the Lesbian thing is what caused Tinto Brass to go Alan Smithee on this project, looking at Brass's other works like "Fallo!" which was essentially a "mystery" show where the term "Private Detective" had two meanings and the fact that from what I understand he had a hand in one of the many iterations of "Emannuelle."
Just seems bassackwards he would get upset at a legitimate attempt at porn that wasn't shock value but I guess every director has to have their turning point.

Congrats to the 100th review. And what a review. Your humor and production was quite on top in this. The tempo was really good, and the segment with 80s Dan was especially hysterical. I'm gonna watch another 100 episodes. I'll be looking forward to more Piere Kirby, and I suspect which film the one with weasels is!

This two parter blows my mind on so many levels from the puking sound to the cameos.
I know some people kept referring to some scenes from the movie that could've used some references, but I'm sure those jokes would've been overly redundant, so props to you Brad!

Oh man! I've been waiting 8 long days to see how this review would end, and it was well worth it! So much so that in that time period, I've added this one to my Blu-Ray collection! I loved the Big Box, Film Brain, Obscurus Lupa, and Kung Tai Ted cameos! I am looking forward to 100 more Cinema Snob reviews in the future! And by the way, the song at the end was the disco version of the Love Theme to Caligula, entitled "We Are One"; I downloaded the soundtrack as well!

I don't get it. I thought Snob said this was his favorite movie of all time, and yet he's bashing all over this movie?
Or is this another one of those stupid "Going into character" type of things? That's kind of a lame copout I think. At least when Nostalgia Critic reviewed Hook, he was pointing out flaws in the movie, and it seemed like a legitimate review, you understood that he really did like the movie.

The Cinema Snob has always been a character. It is a satire of pretentious critics who nitpick exploitation films. He's said this in numerous interviews, plus anyone can see that Brad and the Snob are not the same character. Brad even appears as himself in Caligula Part 1 to show him getting into character and talking about Caligula.

Brads stated time, and time, and time again that the Snob does not reflect Brads views on a movie 100% of the time. He's also stated on more than one occasion that he has Snobbed movies that he personally likes. Maybe you should pay more attention.

Riffing on a movie doesn't mean you actually have to hate it. The Snob's style is more in the vain of MST3K, where they're not really reviewing the film as more making fun of it. Exploitation Nostalgia Critic this is not.

Wow man just wow, now I'm going to go an track down this movie. Also I expected to see the Snob in a toga by the end of the movie, but glad it wasn't that predictable. Oh and Ebert's commentary was hilarious. Glad at least he saw it.

Just awesomly fucking great. Definitly a "part 2" thats even better than the first one. And thankfully I was right, that we see Jerrid in this one. "Brad and Jerrid" is just perfect, the rest nearly as good. Why nearly? Because as the old saying goes: "Wenns am schönsten ist sollte man aufhören." (It's the best to quit when it's at its nicest, or something like that)
Cause I really am ready now for the next 100 episodes of even higher entertainment value. That would probably blast my balls of by sheer awesomeness, but thats a risk I willingly take!
I salute you, Cinema Snob, Mr. Jones and the whole rest of the family, cause this two parter was one of the three best "anniversay" Videos I've ever seen.

I just came back from an awesome date with my girlfriend and what did I have waiting for me when I got home? The second half of the Caligula review. Truly, life is peachy.

The "Caius" thing is a fuckup on the part of the moviemakers. Historically the letter "C" was used for both the k and the g sound in Latin (like how "V" was used for both "w" and "u"), so you'll occasionally see names like Gaius spelled with a C like in the old fashion. So them spelling it with a "C" isn't QUITE a fuckup. But pronouncing it with a hard "c" sound is. And for the record, people who pronounce Cassius's name with a hard C sound are making the same mistake, as he too is properly referred to as Gaius.

That was a masterpiece. Out of all the reviewers on TGWTG you've really become the most mature and talented. Utter brilliance Brad, loved the whole thing- Big box, Brad and Jerrid, Kung Tai Ted, Lupa, 80s Dan (I would watch the show), the recap... all just marvellous. Plus after watching this I've now ordered the Imperial Edition of the movie- thank you for all the laughs and entertainment over these 100 episodes and I look forward to another 100, or, at least as many more as you make.

Now I kinda want to buy this, but as I live with my parents I would surmise that explaining this film to them would be hard. Even if I am twenty four.
I just watched part one and two back to back and I have to say this is one of the best Cinema Snob's I've seen. It doesn't top the Salo review but it is a close second in my book. You did a marvelous job of balancing out the cameos and the stuff from your alternate shows. I too can be counted as wanting more 80's Dan and Softly From Cable.
This movie right here shows you that there was a time when i think in movies you could get away with a lot. Albeit the one most commonly known is the R Rated version which is what you reviewed but, the constant penis, and vagina shots alone would of garnered this movie an NC17 rating if it had been really pushed through now. Makes me kinda sad.
Also I know this was probably a joke but you said in the opening narration "I have existed for three years and I will exist for three more" are you putting a six year lifespan on The Snob? It makes me sad if you did but again i think it was more for a joke than anything.
Anyway, thank you for Snobbing your favorite film of all time, and I like many would be interested in seeing a Brad review of this film just to see why you like it

Hey, I have a question.
The Radiodrome Voice refers to 'the Snob's Wife's Rack'. Now, we've established that all Brad's characters are different people, so this can't mean Jillian, because she's appeared as herself in 'The Bruno Mattei Show' with Brad as himself. So does that mean the Snob is married to Shannon Shears?

I can answer this. The radiodrome bit mentions how Brad had to psyche himself into Snob mode, so obviously it's recapping the bit knowing the Snob is a character and in reality is married to Jillian.

This video actually put the hurt in me to find Caligula and watch it. I enjoyed it, but there was so much dick.. It was like watching Hamlet while all the performers were in a circle jerk.
Anyway, my point is, seeing as this is your favorite movie, and you've given it to the Snob, why not make a separate video describing to us what makes Caligula your favorite movie? While I realize you might be "done" with it for a while, it would be interesting to know what it is about this movie that makes it your favorite.
