Troll 2 is the only Troll flick I've liked. I only watched them because you and Phaelus were all apeshit over them. And I am now very curious to see this documentary. Thanks for letting me know this exists.

I saw this at the AFI SilverDocs back in 2009; was one of the best documentaries about film I've ever seen. I'm a film student and it's one that I'm hoping comes out on DVD and should be required viewing for film students. Especially documentary students.

I've seen this before. It was pretty entertaining. I liked the first Troll movie more so then the third one. The second movie was funny but the first movie had that whole fantasy world aspect I like in a movie. The old woman that turns into a young sorceress was kick ass.

Well I liked the movie too, but I thought it felt padded (a few too many tracking shots of fans lined up and yelling "Whooo, Troll 2!") and there were times when it really did skirt the edge of being uncomfortably exploitative (and not in the good way) when peering into the lives of the actors.
Also, what the fuck is up with Margot Prey's face? Is that even human skin she's wearing? She looks like that monster from "Splice". It was really distracting.

Best Worst Movie is that good?
Documentaries don't interest me, but when they are well crafted, they are great.
My favorite documentary EVER is "The King of Kong", and if Brad hasn't seen it, I have some advice:
SEE IT, THEN REVIEW IT.
It's the only movie I've seen where I came in saying "this sounds BORING"
and then came out saying "This is the greatest thing in the history of everything ever."

Don't be an ungrateful whiner. Would you rather have no content at all while waiting for P2 of Caligula? Personally, I'm happy that the Cinema Snob took the time to talk about this, because I love Troll 2, and maybe I'm a bit biased toward this because I have actually seen Best Worst Movie, but seriously, content is content. Who'd want to keep uploading material if his fans were demanding little leeches?

Spoony Like ineteruptions.....really....he's only had one or two glitches in his update schedule since i've been following him, he does the cinema snob weekly and if he happesns to have a problem where he can't do them; he does 2. You are obviously either new or trying to be a troll either way learn to be patient and enjoy what he gives us because he's entertaining either way.

There's a difference between dicking around with updates and saying "Hey I'm working on Caligula but in the meantime I'll tell you what I've been up to."
We could argue about Spoony, but the whole point is that Brad very rarely does two Snobs back to back, he's working on it now so give the man some time.

I actually went to the Best Worst Movie screening earlier this year, and George Hardy, Michael Stephenson, and Jason Steadman's (the guy who plays the friend who goes to the store) were there, and I got their autographs! Michael Stephenson actually prefaced his autograph with "Row, row, row your boat." Freaking hysterical!

I will still never consider Quest For The Mighty Sword a "troll" movie. It's an Ator movie. And one of my favorite D-movies ever made.
Awesome review though Brad. I've been DYING to see this doc, cause the trailer does show how much fun they had making both the movie and the Doc. Hopefully they'll be back in the Detroit area this fall, then i can catch a screening.

Excellent that you reviewed this, Brad. I was SO fortunate to get to see this as the opening film at last year's Sidewalk Moving Picture Festival in Birmingham. George Hardy lives just outside of Birmingham, so not only was here but half of his town was there too and all of his staff from his dental practice. To top it off, Michael Stephenson was there as well and he and George are hilarious together. The next night they showed The House Of The Devil and Dead Snow in that theater, and George Hardy was there watching them with us.
Your mention about how easy it has been to make fun of Caligula reminded me of an ongoing discussion I have had with people over the years regarding MST3K. A lot of people don't like MST3K as they think that MST3K, RiffTrax and Cinematic Titanic are ridiculing movies without any real appreciation for them, but if you become familiar with the crew through books and interviews you find out that quite often they had a deep affection for some of those movies. Frank Coniff's insistence that they riff a Mexican wrestling movie for his last episode came from his love of those movies. My wife and I talk about this often that making fun of a movie you love is like being married to someone and you both are able to take the piss out of each other and both able to laugh about it. Making fun of something isn't always about thinking the thing is dumb, but often it's about poking fun at something or someone you love. I mean, you don't sit around with your friends just talking about how awesome each of you are, do you? Usually you sit around, have a drink and shoot the shit and sometimes that means really poking at your friends. It's the same with movies. One reason MST3K is so fun is often that the movies are so sincere and so fun to watch (It Conquered The World and Diabolik come to mind immediately.)

I saw this at a screening in chicago earlier this month and loved it! It really is a great documentary, and George Hardy was there with one of the producers and they did some Q&A and what not and a special screening of Troll 2 after the documentary. It was a great experience seeing Best Worst Movie and Troll 2 in theatres! and they were actually talking about how Best Worst Movie has possible oscar opportunities, no joke. Nothing for sure but a possibility to be nominated for best documentary, so thats very kewl!

There is an odd discrepancy with Fragasso's attitude towards his own movies; I have heard about how defensive he gets about "Troll 2," yet on Shriek Show's interview with him for the "Zombie 4" DVD, he laughs about that movie and admits that it sucks. Weird.

I've got the double pack of Troll and Troll 2. Troll 2 does feel like genuine sequel. The first Troll is good because it's got one of Micheal Moriarty's great comatose performances. He perfected these "out of body" appearances for those odd fantastic Larry Cohen films- I think I may be the only person in the world who prefers Return to Salem's Lot to Salem's Lot. Troll 2 is very very entertaining. And comes across as an attempt to make the best possible film on a tiny budget and with the strange certainty that Troll was big enough to support a sequel.

I've just seen the documentary and It's really very entertaining and interesting. George Hardy is so nice guy it's hard to believe. It's good to see he has such a nice life. Other cast members are cool too, but It's really sad how some of them ended. I felt so sorry for Fragasso. He was convinced that people love his movie because of it's qualities and then when they started laughing he had to be so confused. Then he was just angry. I love his "You are wrong, you are completely wrong!". Best Worst Movie was definitely one of the best documentaries I've ever seen. Hard to get in my country though.

Heard allot of good things about the documentary, hopefully there will be a DVD release or some sort because the cinemas in my region are kind of fucked up when it's about the obscure stuff.
Also loved the difference in opinions from The Snob's POV and yours Brad. Kind of reminds me of what Doug does at the end of the Bum Reviews where he states his personal opinion at the end. I'm not saying you should do that at the end of every movie you've Snobbed but it's interesting to hear you sometimes make fun of movies you actually liked but from a snobbish POV they would be seen as shit. That really shows commitment to a character.

Finally had my chance to check this out. It was awesome, but the best part? My wife is in it! Twice! She was at the first big screening of this in New York City! The camera is stopped on her and our friend Kenny waiting in line and waving to the camera, then she's seen looking directly into the camera while sitting behind the crazy shop owner in the audience. I'm so proud that the love of my life has been immortalized in this film as being one of the true Troll 2 diehards!
