Nice review. I am a huge Uwe Boll fan, sure he doesn't make oscar winning material but he does make solid enjoyable movies.
You should really check out Postal and 1968 Tunnelrats, thos are his best movies

Nope never seen an Uwe Boll movie and not intend to. There are allot of good to mediocre movies that I have to see till I get to his filmography and that may take allot, thank God. Also you said when you were at the video store that there was only one movie on the shelf, maybe because it sold so well there was only one left. :3

FAR CRY is like the second coming of Cannon Films.
I almost expected Michael Dudikoff to show up. And judging by the DTV depths Boll's career has sunk since his $70 million debacle IN THE NAME OF THE KING, I fully expect Dudikoff to be cast in the inevitable DTV sequel to FAR CRY.

I really don't like Uwe Boll, but it's good to see you're not biased against him. Seriously, there's a lot of worse directors than Boll. Ugh, but Chris Coppola (the comic relief) is freaking annoying, he ruined Postal for me. And yeah, Tunnel Rats is suprinsingly alright.

Postal is pure mindless fun. which makes it his best adaptation/movie since the game was pure mindless fun as well.
i also have Bloodrayne 2 (given for nothing by a friend along with a lot of other movies including transmorphers) but have not dared to watch it yet.

I have two thoughts:
1. There is a fast growing cult of Jason Statham fans/apologists of all walks of life, myself very much included. He makes otherwise atrocious movies not only watchable, but borderline genius. I HIGHLY recommend Patton Oswalt's MySpace blog entry entitled "Gay-tham For Statham", which perfectly dissects the Jason Statham mystique.

2. There was a weird period where I wanted to try my hardest to find something enjoyable about a Uwe Boll movie. "Bloodrayne" made me weep for my lost humanity. I've felt equal amounts of sadness from "Postal", "In The Name Of The King" and "Heart Of America". However, I do agree that, aside from "Heart Of America" which looks like it was shot with a VHS camcorder, Boll's movies look no worse than any DTV film. They are just poorly written and acted.

Actually if you go over to AICN and search for reviews written by 'Neil Cumpston' there's a very strong rumour that it was Patton writing them.
WHoever wrote them, they're just about the funniest thing you'll ever read.

I saw the trailer for this a while back(went straight to DVD here as well) and I was immediately turned off by it because of the timing in the action sequences they showed. They felt like there was something missing.
As far as Uwe Boll goes though, he seems like a nice (if rather delusional) enough guy in interviews. I've only seen one movie by him and that was Postal. That honestly wasn't all that bad. Yes it's retarded but then again so are the Postal games and he did manage to bring over a lot of elements and mood from them(including the cat used as a silencer

I grew up watching Seagal movies, he was my favorite action hero in the early 90's. "Out For Justice," "Under Seige," "Marked For Death," classics. But the few DTV movies of his I've seen have just been awful.

The interesting thing is that, once again, you have a game that actually shouldn't have been hard to do a movie about, but of course Uwe fucked it up to no end. How hard is it to do "Island of Dr. Moreau with John Woo level gunplay"? That's the video game, pretty much, and it had better acting...

Love the Videos,
One big suggestion, Could you Trans-code the Videos you release in Mono Channel? The reason is when listening to your awesome videos, it gives me a headache when your voice is like so (L:--.--M-----:R) the "." is where your sound is. This is the only problem with your videos Sound issues. But can be Fixed very Quickly. Also when switching to some video clips sometimes there is only sound from the Right Channel. I am an audiophile and it drives me nuts when your audio could be fixed. If you want I can fix all of your reviews for you for free.

Brad, you were nicer to the guy than he deserves...Boll is a menace, and not just to critics in the box ring. He makes German cinema look cruddy in the American popular mind and he hurts the chances of other younger German directors to either work in Hollywood or get their films released in America. The guy has to stop making such shitty films or either give up making stuff in the US.

EDIT DOWN YOUR VIDEOS. SCRIPT THEM AHEAD OF TIME IF NECESSARY. Watching you mumble uncomfortably is not entertaining or interesting. Also, what are you doing standing awkwardly in a corner behind a shelf? You couldn't find a desk with a blank wall behind it? The environment is really distracting, especially when your commentary goes nowhere half the time. Come on, dude.
The only good part of this video is when your cat interrupts you. That cracked me up.

Actually I and most people on this site like his reviews this way. They're an honest spur of the moment opinion.
If you want scripted go watch the Cinema Snob videos, Brad and Jerrid or Kung Tai Ted instead.

I agree, what i love about Brads reviews is that it's like listening to a real person talk or like a buddy you'd hang out with and is talking to you thru the screen. Not like some critics who are worse than the actors of the worst movie they reviewed and just sound robotic and dull.

Personally, I dont hate Uwe Boll. If I have an issue with him, its that he tends to think too highly of himself.
I hated "House of the Dead" and "BloodRayne", but everything else tends to be forgettable and mediocre. I did like "Seed" and "Tunnel Rats", however. I think Boll is at his best when doing horror, which is why Im not really planning to see Far Cry anytime soon.
The writing in his films suck, however. So I agree with you.

Yeah, I actually thought "1968 Tunnel Rats" was surprisingly well-made. Nice cinematography, decent performances, and effective atmosphere. My only complaints would be that I felt the writing needed some work and that actor Micheal Pare(who's in all his movies) looked too much like Tom Berenger from "Platoon".
I thought "Seed" sucked, however.

Even though i enjoy reading and listening to reviews of Boll's movies, I'm in no hurry to watch anything by Uwe Boll. I've seen interviews with him and he just acts like such a huge douche I'm surprised he doesn't have 'Summer's Eve' tatooed on his forehead. He just has a lot of contempt for his audience.

I'd really like to know what you, "the cinema snob", think of "Seed" and/or 1968 Jungle Rats", cause both Boll-Movies have a pritty great "70s Charme".
And, by the way, "Far Cry" was shown in theaters in germany for about, well, two weeks. Sadly, the theatrical release was extremly cut in several scenes, although the dvd-release was uncut with the same rating. (But the cuts didn't exactly made the film better, almost every bloody scene was trimmed down.)

Uwe Boll is overrated as a bad director.
His films are just normal bad, nothing special.
I think his rep rests on young gamers who've only seen a few films and then blog on them or enroll on IMDB. Half of these kids are so limited they think the TCM remake is better than the original

I saw Dafoe in the trailer. that just sounds like sugar on the cupcake. vampires and dafoe. crossbows are nice too. but more importantly Vampires that actually have a kill drive. the only vamp movies i enjoyed so far were Near Dark, 30 Days of Night just because of how the vampires were. And I'm hoping I can add this one to the list. to me that "other vampire movie" doesnt exist. if only it were true.
